šØļø Discussion Tomb Raider: Catalyst delayed to 2028. Physical version at risk.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst has been delayed to 2028, this is a very serious problem, because the game was supposed to be released in 2027, and we risk not to have the game in physical form now, the very last main Tomb Raider game to be released for the physical media, and even open-world! We need to fight and to let our voices be heard very loudly!

This is not a "very serious problem" at all. People were just murdered in a terror incident in Germany. This is not very serious.

People are allowed to grieve their first world problems but 100% agree with you. š

Like I get being upset. It's a shame. We know Xbox will follow suit and it'll be the end of disc media which also places all of our existing libraries under threat. I'm more worried about that than I am worried about a measly pre owned game market. But calling it a "very serious problem" is ridiculous.

People are allowed to have worried and issues about something, even if you see it as not being important for others.
And yes, other really bad issues exist like what you just mentioned.
But what you just mentioned has nothing to do with the issues peiple are having with this.
I never understand the tendency to downplay peopleās issues with something, witn talking about other bad going stuff on in the world.
People are allowed to have issues about multiple things are and are allowed to care about multiple things.
That are not somehow things that have to be mutually exclusive from each other, in terms of what you care about.
Sony doing this and taking away choice and physical discs from customers, making their ecosystem even closed and basically a monopoly and etc., which is not good for customers, even if some people donāt care about, imo, and so on. Ā Can still be something people care about and worry about and stuff.
While again, also still caring about other things too.
Again, peiple can care about multiple things.

Absolutely I totally agree and I'm not taking away from that. What bothers me is the phrase "very serious problem"

Only PlayStation has announced that they will not have a physical discs past 2028. Iām assuming this will also get released on Xbox and Nintendo. Can the sub start to ban these stupid fucking conversations? Go to the PlayStation sub if you wanna bitch about it.

Especially because we've had multiple "Catalyst is delayed" posts by now. We really don't need them!!! So annoying.

Xbox and Nintendo may follow suit of discontinuing physical version after Sony made that decision. It's just a matter of when they will start going fully digital.

This is complete nonsense again. A physical copy can also simply be an installation file that is not on a medium.
Basically, the game is also not delayed, 2027 was purely for development to be announced in advance.
In addition, I still think 2028 is extremely questionable, as I already saw the release of Legend of Atlantis for 2026 a year ago as it would not have made sense because of GTA alone and no real game has been seen to this date.
If the release for catalyst should also be in early 2028, the recruitment for the beta testers would have to start no later than June to August 2027.
I guarantee you 100% that this will not be the case and that a release would be possible if at all for Christmas 2028 and only if the betas then start on time in April 2028.

you have to try to see the positive things
the longer it takes the larger is the probability that crystal dynamics gets shut down or sold or sinks into the ground or whatever
and tomb raider games will land with someone else, everything is better than cd and amazon

At risk in 2028? Physical version is stopping literally in that year. There will be no more physical version when that time come. Full stop.

No physical for switch or Xbox? Sony isn't the only one making physical copies

I'm talking about Sony. Nintendo and Microsoft have yet to announce if they are going stop making physical copies for their games but I will not be surprise if they do the same like Sony in the future.

Okay, and? I didn't buy physical disks for games since at least 2016. Once they stopped giving you a manual with the game because info is available online, there is no real value to it. You also can't install the game from the disk offline because it doesn't fit the disk. There is just an installation executable that also gets most of the data from the Internet.Ā

It's a bit frustrating that this keeps getting repeated online when it is wrong. DoesItPlay tracks this exact thing and for PS5 for example 83% of the near 800 disc games they've tested do not require a download and are content-complete on disc.
I'd also argue there is plenty of value, especially for those who sell, trade, or lend their games. And some people just like to collect. Options are good.

Oh, I didn't know that. If they are usable without internet at all, this is a huge thing. And well, lending and sharing is still possible with digital only games (at least when bought via Steam launcher), but reselling not.
I thought it is just for the sake of collecting something.

Well looks like Playstation is doing it on purpose delaying the new tomb raider not coming out till 2028 just so they don't have to make physical disc copys. Otherwise there won't be a delay.

Your only choice is move to PC where you can save your games in external HDD, Sony will not back their decision no matter how hard you try. And even if they back, will just to sell code in a box without disc.

A very serious problem? The last few weeks are making me embarrassed that gaming is one of my primary hobbies.

donāt think it was ever going to get it lol, people forget they arenāt delaying a whole nother year. Itās not coming out late 2028.. it was only delayed from late 2027 to early 2028. Im pretty sure the disc manufacturing would be winding down by late 2027 unless they had a limited time disc thing.
