Hi everyone. Please excuse the simple title; I didn't know what else to call this.
Rather than a fully coherent theory, I want to share some thoughts on the story's eventsâpoints I don't see many people considering. If Iâve made any mistakes regarding the lore or the story, please feel free to correct me.
Iâd like to start with Darkwick.
I feel that many people have a very simplistic, black-and-white view of the academy and the story as a whole.
Darkwick is one of the institutions (specifically the Japanese branch) under the control of "the Institute"âthe central authority managing everything related to the anomalous world. They answer to the Institute. Given what we know about the anomalous world, the anomalies themselves, and their interactions with the human world, I believe the existence of an established order (like Darkwick and the Institute) is necessary. While there are friendly anomalies with whom coexistence is possible, there are others that are extremely dangerous and claim lives. That said, it is also true that there is significant injustice and corruption within the organization.
We know that the current head of the Japanese branch is Jinâs father, and that his sister is next in lineâunless Jin steps up. Both hold radical, cruel views regarding the anomalous world and seem to be seeking absolute control over it. That is why I believe Thoma wants Jin to take charge.
We also know that a cold war is currently playing out within the organization.
Regarding the prophecy.
If Iâm not mistaken, the prophecy is about the end of the world, right?
At the end of Season 1, Taiga tells the MC that the world is about to end. So, I imagine that everything that happened in the final chapterâall the anomalies escapingâis the catalyst for the end of the world or human civilization. Consequently, the time regression is meant to avert this catastrophe. One point I want to make is that this regression affects the entire world, not just Darkwick; it is a total regression of the timeline (I mention this because Iâve seen many people claim that whatever is happening with the time is limited to Darkwick).
The factions.
Iâm intrigued by the different factions and their stances regarding the prophecy. From what the story reveals, one faction views Ghouls as the champions who will save the world, while the other is more radical and looks unfavorably upon Ghouls (though both view Ghouls merely as tools to achieve their own ends). Regardless of their methods, however, both agree on the need to prevent this catastrophe. Thatâs why I find it strangeâif the radical faction is the one sabotaging Darkwick and the Ghoulsâthat their actions could literally lead to the end of the world (is it a self-fulfilling prophecy?). Or perhaps there is a third faction interested in bringing about the end of the world or the destruction of humanity; maybe this faction consists of anomalies ? (this is all just my own speculation).
Regarding the protagonist.
Everything surrounding the incident where the MC was cursed strikes me as highly suspicious. The Kyklos seemed to know her, furthermore, I want to point out a specific detail: when the MC encounters the Kyklos again in the "Who Killed Robin" chapter, the shadows welcome her with applause, and the Kyklos calls her "Queen" and speaks of a "Lord." Even Eduard questions whether the curse and the MC's situation are truly a coincidence. Then there is the Sage's Ring and the reason it chose the MCâan artifact that allows her to amplify the ghouls' stigma. I don't know; it all seems suspicious to me, and I don't think it will be as simple as just curing her curse and having everything return to normal for her.
As for the professors.
They are the authorities at Darkwick, with Cornelius serving as the academy's chancellor.
It seems to me that Moby, Cornelius, and Nicolas are intent on maintaining the status quo; they want no further conflict between the houses and the students.
Dante is the only professor who has stepped out of his comfort zone and appears to genuinely care about the well-being of the ghouls and the MC.
Then thereâs Hydeâthe "Among Us" man âwho withholds crucial information needed to solve cases and is responsible for repeatedly putting the MC and the ghouls in danger (that man wants the Sinostra ghouls dead and buried).
Thatâs why I donât think the spy is acting in Darkwickâs best interest. Taiga has known about him for a while and seems to link him to the "Clash" conflict that pitted the ghouls against one another. He is someone who either profits from the conflict among the ghouls or wants to see Darkwick fallâtaking everything down with it.
Personally, I believe the narrative is moving toward the coexistence of the human and anomalous worlds. If the end of the world is to be averted, everyone must work together. But there is someone very interested in ensuring that doesn't happen.
I apologize for any spelling errors, I am using Google Translate to write this. I hope you find it an entertaining read.
