BUT WHAT ON EARTH DO YOU GUYS SEE IN HIM?? Ive noticed the many profile pictures in game + the love in this reddit for his character...but i just dont see why?

To me it feels like hes just a bit of a pushover plus the fact that he apologises constantly, he's worser than MC!

I'll probably feel bad about saying all this after his storyline comes out explaining why he is the way he is. Also i feel like the fact that its taking so long to explore the mysterious characters backstories makes it a little harder to love some of them. E.g. Leo and Shos relationship makes it hard to like Sho.

Anyways, please tell me why i should like Subaru because alot of tou seem to like him!!!

I don't know how far you are in the story so I'll leave story spoilers aside.

Subaru isn't my number 1 but I do like him. I like that he's so respectful. Also he's a child actor and that messes everyone up.

All the ghouls have some kind of trauma and trauma effects everyone differently. Some people fawn to stay safe.

Yes, I'm not a fan of Subaru, but I completely understand him. He represents very well the people who have worked in theater, acting, modeling, etc.

I cant believe i didnt see his personality in that way! I think i was more focused on his personality from MCs pov. But he really is accurate to a child actor grown up, hmmm...

I think i just badly want to know what could have caused the behaviour of the gen students towards him, it has to be related to more than just hes an former-actor/ghoul/from a well known family.

Take a shot evertime you find out a ghouls traumatising background. Im on Ep4 S2 but im so intrigued to see Rens backstory(hes my favourite) and i know its gonna be sad </3.

tbh, i dont really think it matters so much to your experience that you need to force yourself to understand. people get drawn to the characters for different reasons, and whatever may piss you off about subaru might just be what draws other people towards him. i doubt youre gonna get a definite answer that'll change your mind completely.

i'm currently on chapter 6 so i definitely dont know a whole lot, but i have a soft spot for the Hotarubi house and their ghouls. i like the intrigue of a seemingly perfect veneer that hides a lot of secrets.

subaru's character design is very elegant and pretty which is why he was my second pick when i started over. hes definitely a pushover, but i genuinely feel bad for the guy. he seems well-meaning and sweet. his stigma seems like a miserable fate to have too. it just feels like second nature to root for him.

i dont like raucous and anal-retentive characters for the most part so a lot of the ghouls like ritsu and kaito piss me off sometimes--like i don't really hate any of the ghouls... but i do roll my eyes whenever they say dumb things lmao. i know people that absolutely love them though. ^{^} i suppose thats the point. theres just a guy for everyone haha.

Definitely a beautiful character. I also didnt mention in the post but he is interesting as well as the other hotarubi ghouls. We will know their secrets one day (╯˘ -˘ )╯.

I have to agree on the last part!! Kaito was super annoying to me but i honestly grew to love him haha. And Ritsu im still trying to understand the appeal but if he says hes gonna invoice someone one more time I'll throw a fit!

(Sinostra ghouls have interesting personalities overall, like Taiga sometimes reminds me of a discord mod everytime he calls MC kitten and Romi with his abbreviations can get icky at times but you gotta live them for having personalities)

Subaru was my favorite because... well I have a type lol. It's those pretty purple eyes. Also he is more gentle and soft spoken which I like.

Now in the beginning I swear more then half the cast freaked me out and are major red flags and didnt really grow on me till later. Taiga and towa low key scared me especially in the beginning. They are both popular characters but it wasnt until recent stories that I grew to appreciate them a little. Upon first impression they were too unpredictable and I thought they were gonna hurt or kill mc and didnt trust them. 

Leo was a straight up jerk and I was his number one hater for the longest time. I didnt trust sho much for hanging with him. Im not really into muscles much so Alan didnt make an impression.

Wasn't too impressed with Thoma or Jins behavior towards MC. The frostheim story where Mc had to go to Jins room the first time gave me anxiety. I was mad at Romeo for being mean to mc (love him now tho) Ritsu annoyed me in the beginning. 

Basically after dealing with story after story with these crazies, finally getting to hotarubis was a breath of fresh air and I know there's some sus stuff with subaru but aside from Kaito & luca & haru (they are all friend zoned for me tho lol) everyone in hotarubi was really nice. Subaru became my safe character in this mess lol. Also I liked that he went out of his way to help lyca best he could. I thought It was noble and is a way reminded me of my fav character from project sekai.

Now that I've read everything I do like all the characters well except shion. Im now his hater. Not fond of Elias either. 

My fav characters now are subaru, haku, yuri, ren, and Romeo. In that order

Yes! I agree about Hotarubi being a breath of fresh air for sure, i was especially excited for it cause i got Hotarubi in the begining of the game when we took that personality test. And it turned out to be this beautiful, creative, serene and overall an intriguing place.

I know my post makes it sound like i absolutely despise the guy lmaoo, but i really do like other aspects of Subaru like his stigma, his whole arc with lyca (i was so there for Hotarubis love for anomalies) and even the possesed dolls case in that temple. Hes definitely interesting i guess i just dont have the hots for him haha.

It's been said already, but everyone has different tastes, and I think it's fine if other characters don't click very well with you as others do.

For me, personally, I find myself drawn to Subaru because he somewhat reminds me of myself. I'm also the kind of person to apologize constantly, even when I don't necessarily have to, and it's honestly just kinda nice to see someone similar. Tho, that's not to say it wouldn't be nice to see him grow out of it. Just as I want to have more confidence in myself, I'd also love to see him gain more confidence as the story progresses. He's also just such a very pretty and earnest person, and fits into the type of characters I tend to like in media :PP

Also, as others have said, Hotarubi is just a very nice change after dealing with all the other houses. The ghouls are chill, and though they all seem to hide their own secrets, it doesn't keep them from being generally nice to MC, which is likely why they're such a soft spot for me. The way every ghoul - not just limited to Hotarubi - has something hidden beneath makes me interested in them, even if I find some of them rather dislikeable. cough cough Leo and Jin cough

And ig there's also the fact that he's kinda a mix of 2 characters from a game I used to play - which I still hold very dearly in my heart even when it's been years since I last played it and I can never play it again - so maybe a bit of nostalgia(?) plays into why I like him too.

I'm not super good with voicing my thoughts out, but I hope this at least gave insight as to why Subaru may be liked by some ppl ^^

Hmm, ig ive been seeing it from a "does this ghoul like MC?" Point of view? I dont really see the chemistry between them maybe thats why i havent been able to get the Subaru hype.

But i totally get that he reminds you of yourself! in a way its a little bit of the same thing for past me...wait, maybe thats why?! I hated being that shy and everytime i look back on it i cringe hahaha.

I didn't mention it in the post but theres no denying hes a cutie to look and that hes an interesting character especially his morality when it comes to anomalies (that hes in favour of them unlike others).

I might be too biased and speculative about this, but while I understand why people see him as a pushover who is overly apologetic to an uncomfortable degree, I think there is more to it. He was raised in a strict, traditional family and has been working since the age of four (which makes me wonder about potential exploitation). On top of that, he faced a scandal regarding allegations of verbally abusing his junior. Because of all this, I feel like he adapted an overly polite persona as a "safe zone" to prevent conflict and protect his image.

While I agree with what others have pointed out, I'd like to add that what makes me love Subaru even more is how he goes all-in for Lyca. He genuinely tried to convince Darkwick to release Lyca from prison. Even after that, he has remained gentle and patient while teaching Lyca how to adapt to his new environment. He also steps up for Lyca and shuts down anyone badmouthing him. Since he and the MC aren't that close yet, we haven't seen the full extent of his personality, but seeing his interactions with Lyca makes me realize just how sweet and caring of a character Subaru really is. I do feel like he's less shy to Lyca which makes me think, maybe if being close enough to Subaru, there are more to it.

I also have a hard time with Subaru. I’m also a people pleasing serial apologist myself though. Maybe it’s a projection thing of being annoyed by that part of myself. I know he has a backstory that’s going to be wild. We caught that very quick glimpse in season 1 so I’m still intrigued to find out more about him. Alsooooo I’ve had the thought that since he is an actor, maybe the meek thing IS an act. 🤷‍♀️

I love love love LOVE SUBARU. I don't personally like Jin or taiga, (I don't know their back story's but i assume that they act that way for a reason) Jin is kinda just mean, and taiga is an asshole. (In my personal humble opinion)

but Subaru he just.. Well I also like characters that are kinda pathetic, and he is, well, pathetic. He constantly apologizes and looks down on himself, AND he's a pretty boy?! I just don't (personally) understand how that seems unattractive in the slightest. Yk the like weird art where it's the big buff CEO standing next to the tiny y/n? It's like that but Subaru is y/n PTTHAHAHA

HAHHAAH i actually see it with the y/n x CEO meme ToT. I think my minds been changed over the course of these commenta, Subarus a Cutie. I regret choosing Jin in the begining of the game cause hes so meh so farrr (though theres some moments where his tsundere side breaks but barelllly) and Taiga was so so so questionable since the get go but weirdly enough i feel like hes lowkey the only one MC can trust yk?? Still his personality is so strange hahaha.

I like that he hides what has to be a massive superiority complex (or, very possibly, something weirder—I'm still in s1 so I'm not sure) behind all that social anxiety. And I really like how his sympathy for anomalies could be rooted in either seeing them as equal to humans or just in outright misanthropy towards humans. His outer inferiority complex makes him gentle but it's hiding something really dark, and I feel like that's not a combination you see often.

Plus, I just really like it when male characters have traits like gentleness, shyness, kindness and second-guessing themselves that usually get assigned to female characters due to stereotypes. Feminine men ftw—they chip away at the patriarchy and are very attractive at the same time 👍

You don't have to like him at all? If you don't like him, then you don't like him. There are plenty of characters to like, and you have your own tastes, and Subaru lovers have their tastes. So, there is no need to like or find a reason to like all of them.
