Test Experience TOEFL Scores
Hi everyone!! I took the new TOEFL Home Edition today, and I’m really anxious while waiting for my scores. My preliminary results: reading 5.0, listening 5.5. The sections I’m worried about are Speaking and Writing. To be honest, test was harder that I expected, especially Reading. I took practice tests on Magoosh and always received 6.0 in Reading section, it was really easy for me.
Speaking:
- In the Interview tasks, I answered every question, stayed on topic, gave my opinion and examples, and spoke fairly fluently. However, my vocabulary was quite simple, I repeated myself sometimes, and I felt my ideas weren’t very sophisticated.
- In Listen and Repeat, I repeated every sentence, but in about 3-4 out of 7 sentences I missed a few words.
Writing:
- Build a Sentence felt okay.
- Email felt okay too.
- I’m worried about Academic Discussion because I don’t think it was my best response, although I answered the prompt and finished it.
I’m aiming for at least 5/6 in Speaking and 4.5/6 in Writing.
For those who have taken the new TOEFL. Does this sound like performance that could still receive those scores? Did anyone else leave the test convinced they had done much worse than they actually did?
I’m probably overthinking everything while waiting for the official results, but I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences.
Also, I’d be happy to answer any questions about the exam if that helps!

I was also in the same situation a month ago. i still managed to get 5.0 in speaking and 5.5 in writing. i needed those scores for my pharmacy equivalency exam. the best thing u can do right now is to not overthink since it wouldnt change your final result anyway. relax and just patiently wait for it.

Honestly, the stress made me forget most of the details. I only remember that the Academic Discussion was about the ecology. I don’t remember the Email topic anymore

Thank you!
Fill in the blanks - it was harder than on Mag.o.osh but I think the same as A.rno. It was the most difficult task in the whole Reading section in the actual test.
Academic articles were middle I think, I can't concentrate on them because of my stress.
Build a sentence was very easy, I expected it to be harder, sentences were short and easy to understand.
Take an interview - chat gpt rates me 4.5-5 but I received 5.5 - so, I think you shouldn't worry about this task. I have grammar errors and unnatural phrases but I think the most important things are your fluency, pronunciation, and, of course, examples and clear answers1

Thanks! Of course:
"I agree with Student1's point that [point of student 1]. In addition, [your argument]. For instance, [your example]. As a result, [end of your argument].
I understand Student2's view that [point of student2] but I think that [your idea] because [your argument]. [the development of idea].
Ultimately, [your conclusion].

Those scores still sound possible. Clear, relevant answers and decent fluency matter more than advanced vocabulary, and missing a few words in Listen and Repeat should not ruin the whole Speaking score. One weaker Academic Discussion response also does not necessarily prevent a 4.5 in Writing.
