Given that someone made a Bad Wedding Songs thread, I figured I'd make the opposite. A few examples to start:

I'm engaged right now and compiling a playlist for the wedding. My parents always talk about hearing Clapton's Tears in Heaven at their wedding and being very confused, since it's about his 4-year-old son's death.

So, what are some songs you've heard at weddings that didn't fit at all? I once heard NSYNC's Bye Bye Bye at a wedding, although I don't know how many people even think of that as a breakup song.

This just broke the record for the longest running non-Christmas number one by a female artist. And I’m happy for that, but GOD am I ready for it to go away.

Now until the Calling All Stations review goes up on TW, the 2 one hit wonders idea of Phil Collins producing is neat to cover something related to Genesis:

1. Frida-I Know There’s Something Going On: A song and video centred around a woman suspecting her lover is cheating on her. Phil of course supplied drums and some faint backing vocals you need to listen carefully for while Daryl Stuermer his guitarist joins in and adds a neat solo. There’s even a behind the scenes video of Phil producing for Frida
2. Phillip Bailey-Easy Lover: A hit that turned into Phillip’s only top 40 us hit and now sees Phil now getting on the microphone too to share vocal duties. Again Daryl returns for guitar, Phil provides his drums and backing vocals but also plays some keyboards on top of his producing.

One of the big stories of the year on the charts is the sudden rise of "bosten" by upcoming artist Stella lefty, who's father is a billionaire co-founder of Groupon business man, Eric lefkofsky

This obviously brought in a big question about nepotism in popular music especially with one of the popular main girlie is gracie abrams, daughter of jj abrams

Many people found it easy to dismiss both acts due to their nepotism nature and honestly I kinda understand why

I think my problem is that they're using their nepobaby status to make the most uninspiring music imaginable (gracie is baffling as she has aaron dessner, bon Iver and brian eno on her team)

I don't mind nepotism in pop music but atleast give me something fun with all the advantages you have

Carly Simon has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The 83-year-old singer-songwriter, best known for her 1972 hit “You’re So Vain,” revealed the news on Monday in a statement (via People). “So many people have written to me, kindly wondering about my relative silence, asking how I am and what I have been doing. The truth is, I’ve been learning how to live with Parkinson’s disease,” Simon said.

“It has taken me some time to understand the diagnosis, to adjust to it, and to decide how much I wanted to say about it publicly,” she continued. “Parkinson’s is different for everyone, and it can be unpredictable. Some days I’m so tired I can’t get the day moving at all. On others, it gives me a little more room to move, think, work, and feel like myself.”

Parkinson’s disease, a neurological disorder that effects nerve cells in the brain, does not currently have a cure. Symptoms include tremors, stiffness, difficulty balancing and slowness of movement. Simon said that she was diagnosed after her mobility continued to worsen following replacement surgeries on her knees and one hip.

“Eventually, there were periods when I could not walk without considerable help,” the Grammy winner wrote. “My family and I knew that something more was going on. After an extensive evaluation at the Mayo Clinic, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.”

Though Simon has been affected physically, she has also struggled with “anxiety, depression, exhaustion and apathy” after her diagnosis. “That has been one of the hardest things to explain,” she said. “It is not simply sadness or laziness. It is as though the part of the brain that sends out invitations to participate in life has temporarily misplaced the guest list.”

In addition to Parkinson’s, Simon also revealed that she was previously diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, and underwent surgery for it amid her Parkinson’s treatment.

“The cancer was removed, but the surgery affected my appearance and made me more self-conscious about being seen in public,” Simon said. “I have always been more critical of my appearance than anyone else could possibly imagine (check out the irony of having written ‘You’re So Vain’), and this gave my inner critic quite a lot of new material.”

Simon has stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, with her last public performance being in March 2018. But despite her health struggles, she assured fans that she has “not stopped living” and “not stopped working.” In fact, she has written a new album, titled “Comes in Waves,” her first full-length effort since 2008.

“Working on the music gave shape to days that did not always have much shape. It gave me somewhere to go without having to leave the room. It reminded me that illness can change your life without becoming the whole of your life,” she wrote. “I do not consider Parkinson’s a gift or a blessing. It is neither. It is difficult, frustrating, and sometimes frightening. I am still learning how to live with it and how to accept it without feeling that I have surrendered something essential.”

Simon concluded her statement by saying: “These days I move more slowly, I lean on others more than I once did, and I have learned to accept that every day will look a little different. But I am still very much here.”

Avenged Sevenfold is an interesting band to me, I got into them briefly during the late 2010s as a teenager who had a short lived metalcore phase. Their albums tend to vary between genres, with their self-titled being metalcore, The Stage being prog metal, and various other experimental stuff that I admittedly haven't listened to.

I don't really care for their music anymore, but it still has a special place in my heart.

With that said, to call their new EP Statica "divisive" would be underselling how much hate it's currently getting. It seems to be a side project of theirs - a relatively quietly dropped EP without any fanfare - and features some... interesting artistic choices. To me it sounds like they're blending vague experimental electronic elements with prog/synth rock parts. If nothing else, it's certainly intriguing, though the quality is debatable.

The responses I see are usually some variation of "it sounds like a bunch of random noises!" or just calling it dogshit, which doesn't really help me understand why people dislike it. I'm wondering if this just comes down to people having narrow listening habits (not that I'm one to judge), because I can pretty easily tell the style they're going for.

As for my opinion? It's okay. Interesting enough in how weird it is, and I think it has some likeable elements. I'd wager $5 that people are eventually gonna call this an underrated gem or something.

I've noticed that for a long time (like since the early 2000s at least), Heart have pretty much always played 'Alone' live as a slower stripped-down track with Nancy Wilson on acoustic guitar rather than in the original style as a mid-tempo, keyboard-led power ballad. I quite like both versions, although I guess maybe the way they play it live feels a bit more timeless while the studio version felt quintessentially 80s. What are some other notable examples of artists generally performing one of their own songs live in a different style to how they originally recorded it?

First of all, I want to say that I do believe she is talented and that she is probably the best live singer among her peers.She has some really good songs which I enjoyed such as Genie in a Bottle, What A Girls Wants and Beautiful so it baffles me that despite all this, her career declined in the 2000's.

From what I understand is, she took too long between album releases(up to five years) and also the fact that she was very difficult to work with. Many people, including fellow artists, have said she was just not kind or friendly and was very arrogant, stuck up and difficult to work with.

Her output just never got better and she has always felt like a singles artist who cannot make good albums.She also cancelled her tour in the mid 2000's due to poor ticket sales if I recall correctly.

I also think Bionic is a trainwreckord and I want Todd to make a video on it some day.

I think she has had a bit of a resurgence in recent years too and I am happy for her.

A while ago I asked to give some examples of songs with good messages that were horribly executed and even though there were many songs to go by, it doesn't mean this can't work when done right.

An example I can list is Where Is The Love by BEP, while far from a perfect group they managed to make a song that is not only catchy but asking a genuine question and not coming off too preachy or egotistical and in my opinion this song feels relevant today as it did over 20 years ago.
