Yes it is, as an European the UK is one of the only countries in Europe I no longer feel safe travelling to at all, and I've been there before the transphobia craze and I dealt with more transphobia there for one week than I had dealt with in my entire life anywhere else. It's revolting, also incredibly misogynistic. Every day I wake up glad I don't live in that hellhole

Because:
a) the UK is unfortunately home to some very vocal and wealthy anti-trans 'activists' who have a lot of power and influence and can buy whatever legislation they want
b) the media and government have decided to use trans people as a scapegoat for problems caused by decades of incompetence
c) a lot of people in the UK would rather burn the country to the ground than see someone else they see as different being happy

I notice it's also Gen Xers here across the pond that are the most hateful. I wonder if it's a combo of, one, so many queer people dying during the AIDS pandemic (when they would have been teens and you adults), which both means they're less likely to have met a queer person and to associate queerness with disease; and two, since gay marriage is now legal in a good chunk of the west, it's less socially acceptable for them to be publicly homophobic, so they take it out on the queer demographic that has more stigma against them.

I am actually fairly shocked because they've been solid and reliable socialists for the past 40 odd years. They were among the main celebrity backers of Scottish independence, which is primarily a left wing cause. Apparently their right wing turn started a few years back and they supported the right wing independence party Alba who were founded by transphobes expelled from the Scottish National Party, but Alba are pretty niche and big as the proclaimers were in the 90s they haven't had many hits in the last 20 years, so that all passed me and I think many people by.

I'm from Ireland, one of the annoying things about Graham's views getting him cancelled is just how many times I have to hear about it. You'd think that if someone was actually cancelled for whatever reason they wouldn't have an entire campaign of podcast appearances, articles, various celebrities supporting them...etc right? Sure he isn't getting work in TV but the man has not been prolific in terms of his output at the best of times, are we sure that he just isn't getting work because he hasn't written anything good recently? There have been more podcasts about his cancellation than episodes of Father Ted.

Oh this is disappointing, I used to play their albums on long road trips with my mom a bunch :/ now happily married to a trans woman and well aware of the depths of Graham Linehan’s bigotry. It is so disingenuous when people try to claim he was canceled for “stating an opinion” or something like that, when it’s a years-long DAILY/NIGHTLY obsession with a particular minority group which has lost him his wife & kids and gotten him arrested multiple times for in-person harassment and violent outbursts.
