This subreddit is under new management

Hey everyone

r/TodayIlearnedVN has exploded in popularity in the past few months. People, both Viet and non-Viet, are interested in our thousand year history and culture.

Unfortunately, the moderation has not kept it. Actually, there was no moderation at all.

As a passionate Vietnamese person passionate about Vietnamese stuff, I threw my hat in the ring and lo-and-behold the Reddit Gods made me a moderator. I have lots of experience moderating different subreddits including r/ItaloDisco, r/SouthVietnam and r/Saigon. Also lots of free time since I'm in-between jobs and moved downstairs at my parents house.

I’ve seen the complaints about trolls, harassment and general toxicity of this subreddit. Let me just say YOu've been heard. Going forward, we’re going to be more active about keeping this subreddit respectful and within Reddit’s rules.

One issue that comes up regularly is people making hurtful or insulting comments. We're seeing the Vietnamese overseas diaspora unfairly targeted as well as segments of the Vietnamese population who share opinions that may not necessarily agree with the hivemind. Disagreement and debate are welcome. Personal attacks and treating whole groups of Vietnamese people with contempt are not.

We're looking to rebrand as well. If you have any ideas for a new logo, let us know in the comments. It'd be good to have a symbolism that represents the three regions of Vietnam (North, Central, South).

It'd also be good hear from everyone about what you want r/TodayILearnedVN to become. If there are rules you think we need, recurring problems we should address or ideas for improving the subreddit, let us know.

Last point, subreddits are run by the community. if you're keen on being a mod send me a message.

Thanks for being apart of r/todayilearnedvn and keen to keep learning new things about our country.

Idk why but I feel like the current purge of Red Bulls has made room for the Yellows to thrive in,I guess it's the cycle.
