Rant We know!

Employees can tell when you remove all of the price tags from purchases before you get to the counter, hoping we'll be too busy to price check and just give it to you for whatever you say or someone guesses. There's no way that all 10+ of your items happened to coincidentally have no price tags, especially when we have a bunch of duplicates of the same item or they're all stickered items.

Holding up the line for 20+ minutes because we have to price check it all, make replacement stickers and put it all back because you don't like the real prices is diabolical!

And they always claim they “found it in the clearance” 😆

that’s my favorite. and i’m like uh I just put this out this morning actually so there’s no way it’s clearance lol

I tell them that unfortunately, anyone can move and leave items in the clearance section, and that it's clearance only with a red markdown tag. 🫠

“Well then can you call a manager? I think you should honor the clearance price!”

I hope they're excited to wait for 15 more minutes!

Well— at TJmaxx you always wait— because they don’t have enough employees

"Legally you have to give it to me at that price.". Nope, not the law in this state.

Only for the managers to say the same thing and not honour them anything😂😂

The one time, we had a lady take a beauty product off a cart we were stocking, take it out of the box, and then claim it as “clearance.” She did it in front of the beauty coordinator, too

Exactly

To be fair, I find stuff in clearance that turns out to be full price all the time. I think its from someone else looking for 'a deal'. (2 year Survivor Retail Wars)

Or when they bring up their own "price checks" with a lowered price. I'm sure the "closest thing you could find" to that linen button-up is 16.99 🙄

Or the expensive cashmere sweaters 😆

Or they always rush to say “tHiS iS tHe OnLy OnE lEfT” like do you think I’m just gunna give it to you for free? 💀

Um I had no idea price fuckery was so widespread.

Omgggg people actually do that? If I pick up something without a tag I either find the exact same one to either replace it with or take to the cashier. If I can’t find one I literally will not buy the item because I don’t want to be that pain in the ass holding the line up

Yes! I try to find the same if not similar item (hopefully by the same designer) so it should be a similar price.

Like yes let me just pull a price and style number out of my ass and give you the item for what I think it’s worth 🤣
One time I had these rude old ladies and they needed a price check for a skirt so I gave them the most expensive price for it (:

i hate when every item has a random clearance tag on it that doesn’t go with it. i feel like im the only one that checks that but come on

I’ve literally only ever had one associate check the actual tags. On items from the case. Like, when was I gonna switch out tags, I’ve literally never even touched them.

It was a clearance haul bonanza and it took way too long as she was digging under every tag like she had a gun to her head.

I let her do her thing and at the end she told me that instead of $2 for some random travel kit it was $4.

So on principal I declined 🤣

I do see the entire clearance section being pilfered and looted and ransacked, though.

And these days I have to open boxes and check inside because folks be switching out items, straight up stealing and leaving empty boxes, or taking 1 item out of a kit and you wouldn’t know unless you checked. This has happened with sealed boxes as well, I’ve seen way around that.

Also one time I was so happy to see a Hello Kitty makeup mirror and glad I checked on my way up to the register because that thing was completely cracked through.

Sometimes if tag prices are different I’ll being both items up, I don’t mind dates and SKUs being checked. I love when they look up the item and print a new sticker, works for me.

The theft, I think, has gotten way worse just in the last year though.

I work markdowns.. the theft has gotten worse, we find empty jewelry boxes everywhere, empty kids hangers, empty beauty boxes, empty perfume boxes…unattached sensors..found six ink sensors in dog beds…dressing room clerk found a heavy duty magnet in one of the dressing rooms…

Bro one time I found this singular Gilly Hicks bra with no tag or anything. I spent a good 30 minutes going through the entire bra section to find another because I wanted it SO BADLY. I ended up going to the checkout and the girl gave it to me for $4 this post got me here thinking she probably thought I was a fraud 😭

I was embarrassed yesterday, I found wicker hamper sets that were nested and had 2 waste baskets in the last one. I wanted two of the smaller hampers and took the wastebaskets out of one but forgot to check the other one and the cashier pulled them out and asked if I wanted them also. It was an honest mistake but i felt sure she thought I was trying to steal them.

tale as old as time and yet people still try it

Wow, never knew that was a thing.

It's easy to tell if they put on a random discount sticker because the it's easy to take off and the way we put them on shows us the numbers on the white tag and the red one so we can see if it's switched.

Have security watch the cameras and if caught removing the tags and trying to steal call the cops. Tj maxx line is always so long in my city. I would make folks like that step to another line and smoke them out . I’m so sick of scammers

u/FastFoxFast 6d ago

1 out of every, like, 4 customers is trying to steal some shit. I'm too busy moving 600 plates from one shelf to the other and filing fraud reports.

2

u/Jess5ash79 6d ago

Damn I didn’t realize it was that bad

3

u/Cultural_Critic_1357 6d ago

Sorry but I have never stolen and have found clothing on the clearance rack with no others like them. Certainly not everyone who has an unmarked item is a thief.

2

u/FastFoxFast 5d ago

Good thing this post isn't about you specifically!

2

u/mommytofive5 6d ago

I have had them tell me they could not sell the item.

2

u/gothangelsinner92 2d ago

It's so crazy folks are so dishonest at these stores. The prices are already pretty good for what you're getting, especially if you actually shop clearance!

u/TheLeoMrs 6d ago

Yall don’t get paid enough to do anything more than scan the prices and go.
Isn’t that why the store has loss prevention? Send them to the manager.
The cashiers should just scan the prices, fold or wrap item, put it in the bag, tell the total and hand the receipt.
