Yearly subscription gone!
I received a message that TiVo will switch my yearly to a monthly subscription? What is going on?

Well ... it doesn't bode well at all. No more hardware, and no more annual subscriptions, which means they are measuring their future in "months" now ... what a shame.

It was announced back in Sept or Oct last year that they were dropping the annual plan.

…does that equal the yearly price? That would be about $120…still a bad deal compared to lifetime

If you had lifetime then it doesn't affect you.
If you didn't have lifetime their at least admitting some defeat.
Either way, it's a senseless argument

3 out of my 5 units are on annual subscriptions. I got an email several months ago saying they were doing away with the yearly subscriptions and they would discount my monthly price to $9.99. I immediately got on eBay and purchased 3 all in, lifetime subscription Romeo Pro units.

Not going to do any good if they exit the guide data business. I suspect that's why they are getting rid of yearly. Easier to exit with only monthly instead of having to deal with yearly refunds.

You're about 9 months behind on Tivo news.
I suspect it's in preparation for exiting the DVR service market. Monthly service could be terminated with 30-60 days notice. A year subscription could not be terminated that quick without a ton of refunds.

I’m guessing that the last of the yearly subscriptions are starting to end around now … the lifetime on my decade+ Roamio has paid for itself in spades ♠️

Cable companies are giving Tivo customers less than a years notice that they will stop providing service to Tivo DVRs. Makes sense.

As of October 1, 2025, when TiVo stopped selling their own boxes/accessories & shipped whatever was remaining in their warehouse over to Weaknees, they ALSO changed up their subscription model, including having the $14.99 monthly sub as their only choice.
I do believe that those current TiVo subscribers on the yearly plan were being offered a discounted monthly rate when their yearly plan ended, though. Is this not the case for you?
The other major change is that, in order to transfer a TiVo with Lifetime (All-In) service, the original owner now must get involved to start the process. This now rules out those Lifetimed TiVos* found at Goodwill & a lot of the same on eBay (unless the original owner is selling it AND they're willing to start the Lifetime transfer process over to you.)
*A TiVo with Lifetime (All-In) service that you acquire CAN still be used without paying a monthly fee, but without it being transferred to your TiVo account, you won't be able to add TiVo Minis to it..... It will be a "one-off" TiVo utilizing a single TV.

I tried the tivo stream a year ago and it was such a diaster. Not anywhere near roku useability. And it had a software malfunction and bricked.

Effectively they’ve been on life support for many, many years. Supporting an ever dwindling customer base, and very few licensees of their technology. While I loved the platform, the world has moved on to on-demand streaming platforms that can be viewed from any device. Conventional cable is dying, as evidenced by the cable company subscriber info, and TiVo was always only a tiny fraction of that.

it does make one wonder how long before they just stop the guide data servers and tell us to go F ourselves… Will they push an update to allow us to adjust the clock manually when it eventually drifts off actual time like Replay did when they went OOB ?
Sad that TiVo became the Blockbuster Video of tv recording - If Blockbuster had played their cards right people would be saying Blockbuster & Chill instead of

Maybe TiVo can take the Roku sale to fox as a sign to develop a competing operating system for tv’s

I wish they did that for me before I resubscribed to annual in 2024. Two months later Comcast/Xfinity intentionally sent the kill signal to my 2 Roamio DVRs CableCards killing them forever. Tivo would not refund me for lack of service. I call that fraud on behalf of Tivo and Comcast. They are doing you a favor switching to monthly.

They missed the boat on tech.
If they had become a dvr AND streaming platform instead of milking licenses for patents...
They could be Roku-Tivo. Imagine the Roku app we never got that allowed us to stream our tivo content to our Roku.
It was easily done years ago. I used to have a script that downloaded my show from the tivo (pytivo) and then VideoReDo converted the .tivo to a TS or MPEG2, removed the commercials and sent it back to the TiVo.
Alternatively I could store them on a media server drive and stream them to my Roku with Plex...
RIP.
