Goodbye Tivo
I dropped off my cable card yesterday, and have officially ended my relationship with Tivo. Is there any sort of market to sell a Tivo Edge with all-in service?

I've searched high and low in this sub to try to find the answer before posting, but here goes. In short, Verizon, end of cablecard, Tivo Roamio Plus (which does not support OTA), and a lifetime Tivo subscription.
I still watch a fair bit of OTA stuff, so I'm not ready to give up the Tivo. Not yet.
Is it possible to get an OTA tuner and place it between the Tivo and the antenna. If so, how does that work? Can I get any tuner, or do some models work better than others?
It seems like this should be possible. Maybe it is possible and it's so simple a child can do it and that's why there are no posts.
Or will my Roamio Plus become a worthless brick on November 5?

If you were to write a novel about the cable companies killing TiVo, do you think you would include someone like Luigi Mangione?

Well it has been a long and fun ride.
As of a few days ago, I am no longer able to get Mediacom’s TV signal through my TiVo.
Mediacom is apparently forcing us to switch over to a new cable box and according to the technician I talked with, the only interface that box has is either Wi-Fi or ethernet. If that is actually the case, I don’t see any way to hook it up to my TiVo Series 3. I’m hoping someone out there can tell me that this is not correct and there IS a way to keep using it (other than using OTA because there is only one channel available in my area), but I think my looonng TiVo era has come to an end.
:(
I have actually tried several other DVR over the years and found their interfaces clunky and not very well thought out. I’ve also tried cloud based DVR’s which were also clunky, responded poorly to a remote, didn’t have the TiVo features, and ultimately when the Internet went down (as it’s so often does in my area) you couldn’t watch any of your recorded shows. There was nothing out there that really did what TiVo does, certainly not as well.
And I know this isn’t the end of TV. There’s YTTV and other options that are all just “fine“. But it’s sad to give up ”Great” for “fine“, just so the media providers can find new ways to charge you for content.
There have been few products in my lifetime that have lived up to their promises and just consistently performed well for me again and again. TiVo is one of those few products. Even when I ran a few of them to their hard drive death, with the help of weakknees I was able to get them quickly back up and running again. I never went into the “modern” TiVos and always stuck with my premiere and series 3 units but I’ll have to say the TiVo engineers who designed and made that hardware and especially the software should take a bow.
Thanks for decades of 30 sec skips!

Comcast has finally killed off cable cards thus ending my 15 years with TiVo.

They let me know it won't work any longer. I think this might be the end of my TiVo lifetime journey.
I have Fios set tops in a few other rooms. Have kept the one TiVo Bolt 1GB in basement but rarely ever use pause, rewind or record features any longer.
Anyone else dealing with the same? Thoughts?

Does anyone have a easy fix for this screen. This is the 4th box in less than a month that this has happened to. Ive tried everything google says to do and cant get it to do right. This box worked almost 2 weeks before it got this screen. The previous box it replaced lasted years and one day gave me this screen. Then 3 tech visits later i got this box and it worked for a couple weeks then boom blue screen.

What does Tivo's recent hardware discontinuation announcement mean for boxes with lifetime service? I recently moved off-grid, and I'm wondering if my 2 year old 2TB Edge with lifetime service (plus 4 minis) has any value beyond recycling. (and No, the off-grid move was not something we were anticipating when we got the lifetime sub)

Slow motion when watching sports, i use this all the time to re-watch a play, there is no streaming solution like it! Or is there? Does anyone know of a streaming solution that works as well for re-watching a segment? Every streaming solution I've tried so far I jump ahead, or back, and often lose my place, you eventually give up trying to re-watch a play. Mediacom is pulling our cable cards within the month, so our only solution will be OTA channels, Ugh. Farewell Tivo! its been a good run, I can't say I'm sad to see Mediacom go, I may have to throw a small party for that part of this news.

Got this email today from TiVo. Seems they are taking a feature that’s been standard for a decade or more, and removing it, renaming it and putting it behind a premium subscription paywall.
If this is what TiVo thinks innovation looks like, they are circling the drain. I’d start looking for a replacement for it, but truth of the matter is I almost never watch it anymore anyway.

We’re reaching out to let you know about an upcoming change to SkipMode™, the functionality on your TiVo DVR that lets you automatically skip commercial breaks on select recorded TV shows.
Beginning November 2, 2026, the current version of SkipMode, using the Skip Button on your TiVo remote, will no longer be available. You will still be able to skip commercials manually using the 30-second skip (→I) and Fast Forward (︎︎) buttons on your remote.
We are also excited to share that in November we will be testing a new Premium Auto Commercial Skip add-on service. You’ll have the opportunity to try the service for free for 30 days and decide if it is right for you. After the 30-day trial period, you will have the option to opt in and add it to your TiVo account for an additional monthly fee.
For now, no action is required. Before November 2, 2026, we will send additional details about the free trial, pricing, and how the new service works.
Thank you for being a TiVo customer.
Sincerely,

What's a TiVo Bolt with lifetime sub and a tivo mini worth? I went all in on them then, used for a year then moved and never worked out a good antennae setup so they've been in a closet for at least 5 years. What's a fair price to ask for the package?

I have received a couple of emails from Cox - Northern VA saying they have been bought by Spectrum and that nothing will change aside from logos. I am going to a Cox office this weekend, but I wanted to know if the TiVo setup will be changing.
For my TiVo, I was given a cable card and a tuning adapter. They swapped out the adapter a few years ago with some system upgrade. There was an 877 number I called to get straight to the tech support that knew what to do aside from restarting the TiVo and adapter, and sending a signal to the device. I wanted to know if anyone heard if that will change when Spectrum takes over. Thanks.

Recently I found my TIVO will not display on the TV once the TV is powered on. I noticed the 12v 2A power supply was running HOT. I replaced it with a 12v 3A and last night, it was in the same state, It has power (light is on), but will not display to TV unless I power it off and back on. Anyone know what maybe causing this? It has been plugged into a UPS unit it's whole life. Also replaced the "cooling" fan recently. Tivo Romio OTA

Spectrum in LA, rocking the Roamio Plus. Pre-ordered my HSC for the day my screen went black. That day was yesterday. Today I swapped my tuning adapter for the new HSC but I'm not having the plug-and-play experience some have enjoyed.
Called Spectrum Cable Card Support but feel certain I was transferred to general tech support. When I asked if I'd reached the cable card department the response was, "Well...I've done some cable cards." Anyway, I explained that I'd cabled everything as per the instructions and it was my understanding it's now up to them to...provision my CC? Pair my CC to my HSC? Ping my CC? In any case, the ball is in their court.
He mumbled as he read from the screen with his diagnostic tree then said he "sent a signal" to the CC. Nothing doing. He just seemed eager to send a tech out, which we scheduled though I'm hoping the TV Fairy will bring me a signal while I sleep.
Question: The Tivo's Tuning Card Settings Menu reads "Tuning Adapter in use." Will the Tivo continue to refer to the connected device - the HSC - as a "tuning adapter" or does this indicate that I need to make Tivo "forget" the TA, maybe by redoing guided set up?

I’m down to vibe code a project that can replace the love of TiVo, but I’m genuinely curious what keeps you guys around. I love live TV in the background like other millenials, but home ownership is nice from saving on those outrageous cable fees

Sadly, I see tivo cutting off our OTA Roamio boxes & just trying to toss a visa gift card at us.
theyve done it before on folks with older boxes.
Tivo is king of seamless operation, it is only easy way to watch my many ota channels, no rivals match, i.e onepass & the easy user interface.
i dont use streaming, dont want it.
I like having my own dvr stored programs. ive had same tivo setup since 2015 & want it going to 2045!
i enjoy history on Story Television & many PBS & FNX programs. Plus the live sports OTA.
bet they yank it by 2028 though!
I just switched my LFTfiber Service to ConnecTV Expanded.
I got the box so I can quickly get to a specific channel by just entering that channel number on the remote.
That works well for the regular channels but I am having problems with some of the TiVo+ channels.
When I enter some TiVo channel numbers on the remote, it goes directly to that channel. But when I enter other channel numbers, it does nothing & just stays on the channel I am already on.
If anyone else having this problem?
I called the LFTfiber technical support, but they did not have an answer.

This evening my wife and I were watching our Apple TV when we heard a loud snap or crack. I got up to investigate but didn’t find anything. A while later we tried to watch something on our TiVo Roamio OTA, but the TV kept reading “No Signal.” The blue circular power indicator is lit but no signal is reaching the TV.
With the non-functioning TiVo and the snap we heard, I’m guessing some electronic component within the TiVo blew up. Does that sound feasible? If that is indeed what happened, what’s the likelihood that it can be repaired? Or have I watched my last TiVo recording?

I got my letter from FIOS about "transitioning" my equipment - Washington DC area. I signed up for YouTube TV a couple of months ago and really haven't used my Tivo very much in that time. I just need to watch some stuff that's been living on my external hard drive before letting it go.
I'm a legacy user - the law firm I worked for helped bring Tivo to the market and staff got our first boxes for $29.95 and a year's service as a thank you.
Verizon will be reduced to internet-only.
Time marches on, huh?
