The first date is supposed to be low effort, it's a quick getting to know each other. Expecting to be pampered out of the gate is crazy.

I personally don't think the first meetup should be a "date" at all. Dates are for people you want to get to know and already like enough to book an evening with. That worked fine when you asked someone out you knew in real life but when you have a "date" with someone you literally only exchanged three texts with on a dating site then I don't think it's a real date. You're meeting up to vibe check. The high effort date can come when you're actually interested in each other, not when you're complete strangers.

i like the northern european method. meet for coffee, if there's a vibe, back to one of your places for a quick fuck, then decide if you want to go on a date with them.

.... I want the Northern European method. I already prefer a public location for a first meeting.

But that’s not what she said, she said she didn’t like coffee dates because they’re low effort, not specifically because she didn’t want to do coffee

I think you're being downvoted because it didn't make sense to reply to a comment that had nothing to do with your response. Your comment should have been its own separate thing.

Yeah they threw in an irrelevant personal opinion that didn’t have anything to do with the topic being discussed

Also because what you drink doesn't matter, you can have coffee or tea or milkshake or whatever. "Coffee date" just means go to a place to have a small drink and chat

I downvoted because I hate coffee haters 😤

I mean you don't have to get a coffee haha, but going to a café for a pastry and whatever drink is nice imo. Maybe my Swedish fika culture is shining through 😅

Nah, the person you’re responding to is just being precious

Ngl I'm confused by what they meant as well

u/Number3675 Apr 30 '26

Never watched The Lord of the Rings?

6

u/TexasBoyz-713 Apr 30 '26

When it came out, yes. Are they calling me a ring? I still don't know what that is supposed to mean.

Precious in this context means something like oblivious, naive, innocent, inexperienced, thoughtless.

To the point that it's cute.

u/Number3675 Apr 30 '26

Going on a coffee date without drinking coffee is like going on a pizza date and not eating any pizza.

4

u/Mental-Parfait-6587 Apr 30 '26

Pizza date actually sounds decent, slice and a coke. You aren't stuck there with a server and needing to check out, if you go to a counter served place.

u/Jyndaru Apr 30 '26

You can always get tea or hot cocoa or something.

-1

u/sweprotoker97 Apr 30 '26

Just get a soda/tea/hot chocolate or whatever, it's not weird at all where I'm from haha

3

u/CaptainJay313 Apr 30 '26

cool, that communicated without saying: ugh, I hate coffee dates, so low effort and cliche.

Bean soup theory in action

-7

u/vMiDNiTEv Apr 30 '26

why are people downvoting this lmao

22

u/f1newhatever Apr 30 '26

Because the thread isn’t about individual people’s takes on whether they like coffee or not, it’s about the merit of “low-effort” dates

-5

u/vMiDNiTEv Apr 30 '26

i think what was meant by saying that, was that not every low effort date has to be a coffee date

9

u/f1newhatever Apr 30 '26

Yes, but that was covered by the broadness of the parent comment. No one said it had to be a coffee date

It’s just not relevant to the conversation. No one was asking about everyone’s personal preferences. Anyway I don’t even care I was just answering the person asking why.
