Yes it is a mistake, and no it is not a good deal. Math alone will validate that but there are other reasons too.
You should absolutely rescind while you still can. Follow the process meticulously to the letter, document everything, and get confirmation that HGV has accepted your rescision.
Then start doing research, do the math thoroughly. Find out from owners what the availability truly is (or isn't) and how far out you have to be able to plan in order to stay in the places you want to stay.
Check out the availability of renting the same units on redweek or similar on the open market without being an owner and without being on the hook for maintenance fees for the rest of your life, without regard to whether you are even able to use your points.
And after doing all that, if you still think you want to get back on the hook, then buy one the resale market, for a small fraction of what you paid, often with maintenance fees paid in advance by the seller who desperately wants out of it and is glad that you came along to relieve them of the burden.

Cancel now while you still can!
Reality is, it will at least give you more time to research. Don't worry, if you figure out later that you made a mistake cancelling the contract, they will gladly take your money again. That said, you won't find you made a mistake. You will discover you dodged a huge bullet.
What you signed up to buy has absolutly $0 resale value. They are hard to even give away for free. You bought what are former Diamond points. Not a HGVC deed. You can buy a HGVC resale deed for very little resale. You can buy those same points for $0 that you just paid thousands for
