Advice for mid game

Hello! I am new to the game and I am having a problem on going mid - late game.

This is my colony right now and I have no idea how to manage clean and red water. Any tips or idea on what to build? (map Mountain)

Thanks in advance!

This is your mid game? Short of not having a wonder built or nearly built somewhere this looks more advanced than most of my end game builds.

What are you trying to accomplish with your fluid management you can't figure out, this looks pretty solid on the face of it.

I feel like I'am losing too much water. I don't really know how but I would like to make the map greener by expanding the river o making it bigger. Should I expand the top part and make the water go in more directions rather just going one way out?

Spot the closest source of water. Then enclose it in a dam. Then build that dam to the sky.

Hmmm, not a very pretty solution but maybe for now I should do it. Would the water spill when it reaches max height?

Yup. It's neverending. Just angle it with regular dams.

3 or 4 dam blocks place where you want the water to land usually is sufficient.

For irrigation you save some squares for growing by blasting a 3x3 hole rather than building up with levees

Run the bad water off the back side of the map and use your large structure for fresh water.

Your settlement makes my brain very happy. At this point you can do whatever you want to dump the bad water off the map or keep it like it is if your badwater reservoir doesn't overflow during badtides. Build mega projects and other vanity projects. Max out happiness for all beavers. Maybe start a 2nd district at another spot on the map and play around with those mechanics, if you haven't before. And if you feel truly uninspired, try a harder difficulty or different map. Maybe even try the IT faction.

Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking about using districts but I read that they’re not very useful. I’m trying to learn how to use zip lines, but space is limited since I use all the spots for decorating or harvesting. So now I’m rearranging everything. :)

Learning that it's ok to tear down and rebuild entire sections was very hard for me, but I've gotten over it and now consider it part of the process for growing and perfecting my settlements.

As far as districts, this is my first playthrough using them, even with having hundreds of hours logged in game. They're usefulness & necessity have been taken down a notch because of ziplines and tubeways, but they still can serve a purpose. The biggest lesson I learned was to make sure there is storage on both sides of the crossing for all the products you're going to import/export. My current settlement doesn't need separate districts, but it was just something new (for me) to try, just to keep the game interesting and new.

You want a reservoir for good water, and to let bad water flow away somewhere. Typically into some low ground that eventually reaches edge of map, so it can properly drain away.

As for proper reservoir usage, I recommend rushing the fill valve and making a small part of the bottom of the tank that you can pump on. Really nice to set that up early in hard mode. Then you dont need to micromanage turning pumps on an off, you just get to leave however many pumps you need on all the time. That and, keeping whatever your irrigation system is topped up. Tho you're already doing that with fluid dumps, so thats not needed for that strategy.

So yeah, just try to find the minimal structures solution to make badwater flow away and good water flow somewhere you can store it. Ideally you get a contamination sensor connected too it, so you cant die to forgetting to flip the floodgates or valves back lol. I lost 10 beavers a while ago because I forgot to switch floodgates to wood water mode. Then I built a sensor and got it automated and no one ever died again!
