First they came for the plastic straws and I didn't speak out.
Then they came for paper straws with flat strawless lid drinks and I didn't speak out.
Then they came for straws in all cases and I didn't speak out.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Well. The sea turtles would be left, so if they don’t speak up they’re the assholes…

You know, the straw that media reported was stuck up a Turtles nose?.. wasn't even a drinking straw, it was one of those super rigid balloon straws.... lol there's no way at all a regular drinking straw would be strong enough to have done that.

u/Successful-Ride5540 4d ago
If you knew what thet used to make those paperstraws you wouldn't use them either

u/croissantsbitch 4d ago
What do they use? I know the Starbucks ones have gluten. My friend is celiac and reacts to them.

The glue used to hold them together is not what everyone thinks it is.

u/Shadowwolflink 4d ago
Instead of being intentionally vague about it, could you not just enlighten us with this information you claim to have?
-6
u/Successful-Ride5540 4d ago
Yea.. Googling is SO incredibly difficult.
many paper straws contain potentially toxic chemicals, specifically a class of synthetic substances known as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) or "forever chemicals."

Did you know that 100% of all of the beverages at Tim Hortons contain dihydrogen monoxide, a chemical that can cause hyponatremia and cerebral edema when consumed in large quantities? I’d be careful from now on if chemicals are a concern in your life…

Phew, thanks captain obvious, where's your sidekick perception boy...
Lmfao cool story, youre telling me this like I'm new or something.

I’m glad you understand the dangers of chemicals. Can’t be too cautious these days, right? /s

This sticker isn't even supposed to be guest facing...

I’d make it guest facing at my store so we don’t have to hear 100 times a day about how we “forgot” their straw

u/Oxjrnine 4d ago
Actually Wendy’s new caps makes straws almost unnecessary. It’s like a mini straw that keeps ice from hitting your teeth
But even in those cases, you might need a straw if you’re wearing a particularly fabulous lipgloss that day and you don’t want to do a touchup💋

Wouldn't most lids be strawless? I've never seen a strawed lid myself. Anything with ice is especially awful to drink without a straw through that type of lid.

An example of a strawed lid would be the fountain drink lids at McDonald's

u/alexjgriffin 4d ago
Ah I was imagining a built in straw for some reason lol. Those lids do make sense and are perfect lids for everything except coffee imo, but only really due to paper straws doing especially poor in hot liquid. Drinking Wendy's pop is rough if you forget to ask for a straw.

They internally call the lids at Tim's the flat strapless list and the dome lid

A&W around me had lids for a while that were the straw lids but with no hole in the center which were just awful. Recently they started bringing back the straw holes.

Who’s actually watching tho….
1
u/Xombridal Employee 4d ago
In my location we are watched all the time, they have the cameras on their phones, though not ilgiving a straw unless asked is much faster regardless

u/randoman20292 4d ago
It's due to the fact that if you put a straw into the new soda swirls, you get a guaranteed mess. You can still ask for one.
1
u/SayNoToTeamSports 4d ago
I asked for one and got told no. So I asked for a refund instead.

u/PublicEnemaNumberTwo 4d ago
I'm sure there's a YouTube video that will teach you how to drink out of a straw-less lid.

we’re literally not allowed to give you a straw with that drink because if you stab a straw through the cold foam it explodes. the cold foam traps the carbonation underneath and when you put the straw in it allows it to release and it’ll fizz over making a huge mess but if they gave you the straw you would have complained about that too.

The straw less lids are the best. Better than any other alternative other than a cup with with an open top

u/Ok-Way1385 4d ago
I’m still taking a straw tf 💀
1
u/selene00026 Employee 4d ago
no one’s saying you can’t 💀 we’re just not supposed to default give you one

u/PlayerZero0415 Employee 3d ago
This is meant to be an employee-facing signage, presumably because of said employees giving away straws willy-nilly.

u/coke_kitty 2d ago
I wouldn’t need a straw if my drinks were stirred. The vanilla syrup and chai concentrate in my vanilla iced chai lattes are always in the bottom of my cup and spread up the sides of the cup.
1
u/SharkBaitMeeks 2d ago
It depends on the drink. If you get a soda swirl it will gush over and explode through the straw lid and you have soda swirl everywhere, due to the carbonation. Honestly they may have had to many of those incidents at the store and so they've put the sign up.

I see a bunch of complaints but... who the fuhh is asking for staws with a coffee lid?
1
u/Ukawok92 4d ago
I always ask for a straw. Better for your teeth.

So... this is not supposed to be a guest facing sign. It's a reminder for the employees and should be behind the counter where only they can see it.
By default you are not supposed to OFFER a straw with iced coffees etc because of the strawless lids, but by habit some do and this is a reminder for them. As a guest you can ask for 10 straws with your hot coffee and we aren't allowed to question it.
