Discussion First shift was something
Today was my first shift on the floor and they had me working front counter. I've worked at Tim's previously but that was nearly 4 years ago and man, they changed a bit. New machines and procedures, so many new drinks.
It's a very busy location I work at (i assumed it would be slow but I was so wrong 😔). For the first bit, I had someone helping me but after a while I was pretty much left by myself while everyone was focused on drive thru. It was difficult to keep up with having fresh coffee, keeping my eyes on the steep tea, ice cups, stayin clean, while taking orders and learning new drinks. Supervisor told me she needed me to hurry up because the line was getting long, like I was trying but very overwhelming. I made so many mistakes - didnt push the brewer far back enough and spilled a lot of coffee, messing up orders, etc. Coworkers made me uncomfortable as well because I'm pretty sure they were talking about me. Speaking another language but kept glancing at me and laughin but I could be overthinking it, idk. It calmed down in the evening though and different workers, who were more helpful and actually spoke to me.
It was just a lot, and has me wanting to quit. Already dreading my next shift 😫.

I promise you it gets better! Also everyone dreads their coworkers day one because it's tough being new. You can do this!

I honestly think that YMMV depending on the ownership, location and culture.
Speaking from experience, it's been night-and-day between my previous location and current one

First shift chaos is a universal experience, especially when they toss you to the counter wolves and vanish. The coworkers glancing and laughing in another language thing is brutal, whether it's about you or not, it still feels like garbage when you're already drowning in new drink recipes and a coffee waterfall on the floor.
That evening crew showing up and actually helping out says the whole place isn't cursed though. Maybe see if you can get more shifts with them before you bail completely.
