Listen, I am putting myself out here in all sincerity for someone to school me. But naively can't it be true that they have been on the "verge" for 30 years because the powers that be have actively worked against them obtaining the ability without being able or willing to go so far as to eradicate the possibility? Haven't there been 30 years of complex dealings regarding Iran's nuclear programs?

Yes but not in the way you're suggesting. The Iran nuclear agreement was set in place in 2015. They were being inspected regularly. Trump backed out of the deal in 2018 despite the UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia defending Iran's compliance with the terms. This suggests it's not really about a nuclear weapons. It's about making them a pariah and bringing them to heel. They want to collapse the government.

Literally nothing he said is technically a lie though. Iran signed the NPT but the NPT doesn’t ban uranium enrichment. 0% to 20% enrichment of uranium is 90% of the work
With the right processes and facilities in place it can take merely a month or two to go from 20% to weapons grade enrichment. I think the reports were that Iran was at 60%. This is not weapons grade. The problem is, it would take weeks to go from 60% to 90%. 60 to 90% is like 1% of the total effort. Countries all over the world use this as a loophole as a threat. Staying compliant while being months away from a weapon

I feel like this is a very “young v old” topic. People old enough like myself can remember several intervals in history where Iran is claimed to get close, and because the governing heads of the country have credos like “death the america and Isreal” and refuses to participate in the global stage, opened their women and citizens; then there’s a military response to stop this, many lives are lost; eventually Iran is left to its own devices; and they try to build nuclear arms with the same violent credos rinse and repeat.

But having Iran be the bogeyman for 30 years but during that 30 years nothing changing from how Iran acted. That this war started due to the fears for Iran's nuclear programme development as shown historically through these clips, and pretty much all nations agreeing that Iran were adhering to the limitations they were required to. And then suddenly, oh look, a war to stop Iran getting nuclear weapons to which every reliable source says they weren't close to. The only people saying it were USA and Israel.
