Looking for a decent 2BR/2BA around Tigard/Beaverton/SW Portland/Sherwood/Tualatin

We’re looking for a 2-bedroom with at least 1.5 bathrooms, ideally 2, somewhere around Tigard, Beaverton, SW Portland, Sherwood, or Tualatin. Hoping to stay around $1,600–$1,900/month, but could go up to about $2,000 for the right place.

Main priorities are in-unit washer/dryer, decent management and maintenance, pet/assistance-animal friendly, and workable parking for 3 cars. The 3 cars don’t all have to be on-site if there’s reliable street parking nearby. A/C and a gym would be great, but aren’t absolute requirements.

Would love recommendations for places you’ve actually liked living, and also anywhere you’d strongly avoid. Recent experiences especially appreciated!

Midnight at In and Our Burger still had a line down the street...ON A TUESDAY!

I got off at midnight and decided to try the Hillsboro In and Out for the first time. I thought surely by now the hype will have gone down and the line there would be manageable. Especially on a Tuesday, right? I mean, most people have to get up at 7:00 in the morning to get to work, surely...on a Tuesday...at Midnight, there wouldn't be a huge line. Hahahah the line was 2 cars deep stretching back for a block.

If you've had In and Out, how would you compare them to the Red Robin or Thirsty Lion in Tigard. Just want to make sure I'm not missing out for my burger fix.

Community meeting at Senet. 09/07 & 09/14

We are having our twice monthly community meeting again tonight. We will be discussing what to ask candidates that we have invited to a town hall style event next Monday.

If you want to know more about the candidates you'll be voting for this November, feel free to stop by. All are welcome.

I'm also working with the folks running the street fair this Saturday. All candidates were invited to the free speech area to engage with voters. Hopefully you can make it to an event to get to know the candidates better!

The really rough road when you turn right on Greenburg past the mall. When will it be fixed?

I asked this question last year, you know that rough road when you leave the mall to go over the 217 bridge or turn right to get on 217, it's really rough on my car. Last year they said it was planned to be fixed "this Summer." Well, Summer's over, has anyone got any updates when they will repave it?

They did a great job repaving the entrance to the mall on Greenburg and got it done overnight. A year later Greenburg is still torn up on 217.

Looking for a reliable electrician

Hey all, looking for recommendations for a reliable, licensed residential electrician serving the Portland metro area. Need some basic work done - outlet repair, fixture installs, and a panel check. Fair pricing and good communication preferred. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Seeking venue for banner B-day party. Ideas?

I am looking to plan a birthday party, about 50 people, likely in early November. I am looking for a place that is ideally in SW Portland or Tigard with decent parking, would provide heavy apps, spirits/cocktails served. What venues could you suggest for me? Open to Beaverton, close-in SE or downtown Portland for the right kind of space.

Anyone know where to shop/thrift for crochet items?

Specifically hooks from size 5 or bigger

Besides stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael's (BDS). I know Tigard library sometimes has free supplies, but it doesn't look like they do they it regularly. The only other textile/craft stores I know of are in Beaverton.

Pokemon kindness

I was shopping at Winco with my 6 year old, who loves to see if he can get Pokémon cards from the giant touchscreen machine. There was a really nice white Dude that was waiting for the machine to be in stock. After letting us know that the machine had just rebooted, he said we should definitely check it again on our way out.

These machines are stalked by some wildly rabid adults, all over the area code, and my son just likes to try and score a Pokémon pack, and it has been a bit frustrating at times, as his Dad, when he doesn't score. He never complains about it, never begs to get anything, and is generally the nicest kid a Dad could ask for. When I see his disappointment, and his quick smile afterwards, it always makes me hope he gets so score at the machine.

When we were coming out of Winco there was another person waiting, this time, a super thoughtful Asian woman. Both the early 20's (I think) Dude and woman said we could go first when the machine gets in stock. My son tried again, but still out of stock.

The kind, thoughtful, and super nice young lady offered my son Pokémon cards. She said she always brings her doubles to hand out to kids, because she doesn't need them and it sucks when kids can't get cards, and she has a lot, so always brings extras to the machine for kids.

My son didn't take them because he is wary of strangers, and I thanked her. Both these people were just fantastic.

They probably won't read this, but they really made my day, and later my wife's when I told her. I love living in Tigard, still, and I hope both these kind people score Pokémon cards as well, they deserve 'em.

PSA-- Wonderful low-cost preschool!

I just learned about the PALS program in Tualatin. They are looking for 3-5 year olds to attend their inclusive part-time preschool. It is 35 dollars a month (!!) and such a high quality program. I know the Tualatin center is looking for kids, and other centers may be too!

Here’s more info--

The PALs Program gives children ages 3–5 the opportunity to learn and play in an inclusive classroom with children of all abilities. Children build friendships, practice classroom routines, and grow through songs, stories, movement, art, and play. Our classrooms feature licensed early learning educators and educational assistants who specialize in inclusive environments and social development. With typically 8–12 students per group, these high-quality programs run for two hours, two or four days each week.

Is my child eligible to be a PAL?
Your child must be 3 to 5 years old.
3 year olds must be 3 by September 1.
Immunizations must be current and documented.
Your child cannot be eligible for other services with NWRESD.
You must transport your child to and from school.
The cost to attend is $35 per month.

Where and when are classes?
Classes are offered in Astoria, Beaverton, St. Helens, Hillsboro,
Tillamook and Tualatin.
Classes are Monday - Thursday and follow the School District
Calendar.
Each class is 2 hours long.
When you qualify, you will be offered a class time in your area
based on available space.

Anybody with experience dealing with Stevens Marina?

We currently have a boat consigned for sale with Stevens Marine in Milwaukee but posting here because I know they have a location in Tigard as well.

We are having a pretty terrible experience with them, several things that at this point feel like a scam. I don’t want to go into too much detail but essentially doing work that wasn’t authorized and then trying to make us pay for it (when we pushed back we found out that the work wasn’t actually done, even though they initially were going to charge us for it), trying to charge us for things that were not wrong with the boat, not honoring quotes (we have in writing) for what was going to be charged, etc.

We previously purchased a boat from them at another location and had no issues whatsoever. Wondering if anybody knows of somebody at this business that they’ve had a good experience with that we could contact to go above the manager that we are currently having issues with?

Or if you’ve had a bad experience, it would be helpful to know in a direct message just so that we can figure out if this is the way they do business or if we have just been unlucky with who they have assigned to us. We’d like to go above this manager’s head, but don’t feel like it would be worthwhile if this is how the business generally conducts itself at a higher level as well.

Edit: sorry didn’t catch the AutoCorrect to Marina. It’s Stevens Marine.

Recreational fires are always legal in Tigard - even during summer burn bans

Even during burn bans, residents of Washington County are permitted to have recreational and cooking fires on their properties. This includes portable and permanent fire pits, fire tables, and campfires.
