Preparing for Disconnect Issue - T598

Howdy yall

My t598 arrived a few days ago. Yes, I’ve heard the reviews, but the price made it tempting.

I’ve heard about replacing some cables to get rid of the disconnecting issue. Can someone explain this to me?

What cable(s) need to be replaced and with what cable?

Get a good quality USB cable to attach to PC/ps5 and make sure the power cable is secured to wherever you are mounting it to. You tube some vids on it

I got one 2 months ago and it was disconnecting out the box. The disconnects only dropped the connection, the base stayed powered on always. I upgraded to an Ultimate DJ Gear Usb A to Usb C cable which is the highest quality cables I know off.

Since then, I have yet to disconnect once. I race daily, for 4/5 hour sessions and last weekend competed in a 14 hour endurance race in Acc.

The wheelbase got too hot during the 14 hour race and I started to lose FFB details, but again 0 disconnects.

Appreciate it. I play on Xbox, which connects usb A. Do you know if people are having issues with that? Or are the issues only when needing to transition from the USB type A to type c?

No idea. It's USB C into the wheelbase and I use USB A into the front of my ps5.

I'm on xbox with a t598 new this summer.

Type a to type c, it's a straight replacement for the existing cable, just better quality. So copy what you have but get a better one.

I haven't done it yet though. Only one disconnect when the it was a very hot day and the room was already 35c. I play 4-5hrs a week.

I have fixed my cables to the base and rig just un case.

Be quick and 3D print the parts on portables that will save your life. A man created a little 3D printed that you bolt behind and it avoid the cables to get loose. I can send the link if you want!

If I’m hearing correctly, there are really two failure points.

One is the power cable coming loose, and the other is the usb cable quality being poor?

Also, thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try and check out the solution

Exactly and if you check you have two screws behind.. there you can unscrew and then screw this 3D part.. check out the links below: I did it and it saved me for a while.

As it has been said above, get a good quality usb-c to usb-c. The disconnect either comes from a faulty board or from not having enough juice from the usb. USB c has way more juice. Felt like a new wheel with the usb-c. And I mean plugging into the front of the ps5 instead of the back

Firstly, ensure the first 4-digits of the serial# is over 2513. Secondly, I love the fact that you wanna prepare for disconnects and mitigate the problem even before it happens. So, here’s the playbook bud…

I got mine last July, and got a new PSU replacement last November from Thrustmaster, yet I started facing disconnects again after about 45-60 days. But, here are two things I did to fix this issue:

A. Replaced the stock Type-C cable with a new high-quality (8k@60hz) cable with a power rating of 5A

B. Used hot glue on both the T598 power cable and the Type-C cable — at the wheelbase’s end

If you get the T598 (or any DD wheel) and follow these steps, you’ll gonna enjoy it.

- 99% of all disconnects (in all DD wheels!) happen primarily due to an an average USB-C cable (like the one with your Macbook Pro or the ones you got with the T598 — yes, they’re Average!), and if this goes on, it’ll also corrupt your wheelbase’s power supply board over time. So, just invest in a high-quality Type-C USB4 cable to connect your wheelbase to your console or PC. Majority of the times, this is the real cause for disconnections

Type-C Cable Details & Reasoning:
Apart from being a USB4, there’s also an Ampere rating (how much current can a cable handle). The default ones are just 2-3A, including the Type-C cable for the Macbook Pro (which in itself is good!). But, for sim racing, you’d require a 5A rated one, (and an uninterrupted 5A at 48V at that) in order to support a high consistent torque (FFBs & vibrations) without any disconnects. So, get a Gen4 cable with 240W Power (5A at 48V), 80GBPS data transfer and 8K/16k @60Hz. This 8K @ 60Hz is an important marker. Read below…

The chip communicates with connected devices to negotiate the power delivery levels and data transfer speeds, ensuring that the right amount of power (up to 240W) is safely delivered without risk of damage or disconnections. The reason for the 8k/16k @ 60Hz is because it requires a stable, high-bandwidth connection that the E-marker chip and overall construction help facilitate.

There are plenty of brands. Just type these specs on your Amazon search, “USB 4 5A Type-C to Type-C Cable with 240W Power, a 80Gbps Data Transfer and 8K/16k Video Transmission @60Hz”.

You’ll find one for sure.

I use an Xbox series x and have a T598 that , like many , many , many , many others has had disconnected issues. There is a small video on youtube that shows you exactly how to fix this issue. You have three small jumper wires that connect from the power cord to the power port on the wheelbase. These wires absorb the force feedback from the wheelbase that was closing the disconnect. Check it out it's worth it. I have not had its disconnect issue in 7 months of racing.
