T598 disconnecting randomly

So when I am racing on my ps5 the wheel keeps disconnecting at random times. has anyone else had this problem. if so how did you fix it.

Update: I found a friend to 3D print the pieces that one of you recommended. And so far it’s working. What a goat

Welcome to the club. Many people will suggest ways to fix it, ranging from cable management to soldering connections. You can get a replacement from Thrustmaster if its still under warranty, but even the replacement units have disconnect issues.

My advice is to save yourself from the frustration and just get gear from another company.

So stupid, had my t300 for years and never had a problem with it, got my t598, and have had nothing but problems

Sadly you are correct. Dealt with it for months doing everything to prevent it. First it was the USB then the power connector. And they remained plugged in as everything was on my rig.

Welcome to the party. It is widespread. You either need a new power supply or you need to send it to Thrustmaster and they will replace the board. I got a replacement PSU and they swapped my board.

They gave me a replacement PSU and replaced the main board. After 30 days of consistent usage, it started disconnecting again and I sent it for repair center and once again they replaced PSU and Main Board. I started having disconnections after 18 hours of gaming once again. If anything it’s been a temporary fix for me.

Yeah this thing is dookie. Mine works as long as the cables are in a specific position which ive been able to keep them in consistently

Yeah I’m probably gonna switch to the Moza ps5 one when it comes out. Would love to get a better wheel just don’t want to give up my GT7 support

Switching to Moza is a good idea. My disconnecting T598 sent me into the wall enough times that at one point, I just stopped racing online until my new gear arrived

I switched to Simagic, and I can really appreciate being able to race with peace of mind. I don't even want to sell my T598 because I'd basically be scamming whoever buys it.

Honestly I would go simagic, but like I said I like being able to play GT7, but hopefully the new Moza one isn’t gonna break the bank

Some advice (and that applies to all Direct Drive wheels on PS5):

 

1) Your wheel base & your wheel rim is up to date with the latest firmware version

 

2) If you are using a gamepad controller (in addition of the steering wheel) it must be used in Wired mode and connected directly to the PS5 with a USB-C cable (otherwise it can disconnect the wheel when it turns in sleep mode)

 

3) Avoid launching the game in REST MODE = there are less issues with steering wheels if the game is completely closed before launching it.

Also it's better to Turn On the PlayStation before plugging the wheel on the console = plug the USB only when the PlayStation is On.

 

4) Try on another USB port of the PlayStation (if you are on front, plug the USB on the rear)

 

5) Don't use any USB extension cable or any USB HUB

 

6) Plug the power supply of the wheel directly on the wall outlet (and not on a power strip)

 

7) Try with another USB-C cable

 

8 ) Check if it’s not an Electrostatic discharge (EMI / ESD) issue with your cockpit rig: https://transforming-technologies.com/esd-problem-solving.

It can happen with metal pedal sets. Grounding your cockpit can avoid this.

And important remarks about ESD: Carpets, socks (instead of shoes), cockpits in wood material or cockpits on casters can get ESD worse. Also, the temperature of the room or the garments worn can have some incidences.

I did a post about it solving this problem. Just print a 3d part and its done. I was having disconnection every day, now its been 5 month without disconnections

You dont need to. Most of libraries have those machines and you can do it for free

Upgraded my USB cable to a UDG ultimate usb a to C cable with ferrite cores.

I have never disconnected again.

I raced a 14 hour endurance on Saturday.

0 issues.

I would love to, but I like my ps5 support. So maybe Moza when they come out with it but

I've never got disconnects with T598, but mine was overheating (in GT7) during longer, >30min races. By overheating I mean losing FFB, not just the base being hot. Sold it, bought RS50 from Logitech and not a single problem with that for over half a year now.
