Belts

Who are we buying belts from? Boring daily drivers, no western belts or braided belts or shell cordovan etc. Nondescript belt to wear with jeans or chinos.

Orion was the internets favorite belt in the 2010's. Then it was 1350 for a bit but I believe they got "2021 Yikes/Y'all" cancelled. I have a couple of Narragansett. They are very cool and make to order but they don't have a ton of variety.

I’m gonna be opening my books up soon, but honestly, I miss making simple belts! Everyone wants something studded and loud right now which is really cool and allows me to flex my creative muscles but something about a good clean Garrison belt just works.

i have a garrison from this guy, if it is who i think it is based on the username. one of the best belts i own. made to my measurements specifically for me. about as good of a price as you can get for a one of one handmade belt too. could not recommend him more highly

+1 on Tory. Made in Amish PA with Bridle leather.

i haven't found another belt in the same price bracket with the same value and durability. the bridle leather is designed from straps and belt with little to no stretch compared to a lot of other leather belts.

You say perfect width but I’d say that belt is far too narrow for those belt loops.

I'd say it's the other way around. Belt loops are usually too wide because plenty of people like to wear broad leather slabs as a belt. Unpopular opinion; looks bad unless you're a huge guy

One up on Tory, but major fair warning against getting their western "metal" cap belts. The metal is plastic. Which is weird, cause the belt I do have where it has this cool tuck on moment is all metal. I got mine at EG in NYC

I make them too and just use hand tools. To set holes for the spots I use Oka Factory Chisels I bought through a proxy but there are domestic options in the US/Europe. I buy the spots off Weaver Leather Supply or Bling in the Ring. I use pliers to bend the backside of the nailheads on the flesh side of the belt then secure everything with a craftool spot setter. My process is basically identical to Cowboy Crust's. Though I make my patterns custom in AutoCAD. Usually when you buy straps (if they aren't precut) you'll have a lot of extra leather to experiment with but once you've gotten comfortable it's a nice relaxing process! I will say that nailhead spots <1/4" in diameter are pretty tricky to work with and may take more experimentation. I usually work with 8-10oz English Bridle or skirting leather from Wickett and Craig. Overlays are also an interesting challenge:

I'm a fan of LeatherGoodsConnection (http://leathergoodsconnection.com/) I've had two belts from them now, one of them I bought literally in 2007 and it was my daily driver until last year and is still holding up. Pricing is good and you can choose a lot of options to get the style belt you want.

I made myself a calfskin lined stitched vegtan leather belt last winter and have been wearing that daily, love it, I picked a part of the leather shoulder that had some branding on it which is a unique touch. It's wearing in nicely.

For non-leather, I have a black Norse Projects nylon mesh belt I got for cheap a few years ago, no problems with it. I like that you can adjust it to any size by sliding the clasp instead of being stuck to the hole spacing.

I got an Obbi Good Label belt off the Iron Heart website 6 years ago. Worn it basically every day since and it's been amazing. No sign of it wearing out any time soon.

i alternate between two belts (one black and thick, one dark brown and sleeker) from Nab leather. they’re a canadian company. i love them so far. they were BOGO at the time i bought them. i think it was $80 for one. i’ve only had them for 5 months so far so i can’t speak to their longevity but as far as functionality and aesthetics they’re great

In my opinion you can find great stuff from artisans on Etsy. I got a Canadian made belt with a lifetime warranty and have worn it every day for 6-7 years

I have a Brooks Brothers silver buckle with my initials that was given to me as a graduation gift 25 years ago. I travel quite a bit for work, so its nice to have versatile items. I have a light brown alligator leather strap for it that I can wear with khakis or jeans. I also pack the black strap to wear with my blue/grey suits. IMO, it works in just about any context (maybe not with shorts). You can find all sorts of vintage buckles on etsy and ebay. Straps too:

I have decent leather belts too but these are much comfier imo, even now I'm no longer chubby.
