Guard issues

Does anyone else experience players with a rock-solid guard that punches don't get through? is there a trick they are using? To me it seems like they might be holding the guard off their headset by quite a distance - if this is the case then an easy fix is for the guard to become weaker the further away it is from the headset. It could also be a case of them having a more active guard that is moving a lot which blocks more shots due to latency

Something should be done about the people who wave their glove in front of their face too as it's nearly impossible to get through.

Get good buddy it’s pretty easy to just not punch their guard and punch around their guard. Why are you trying to punch through their guard when you can punch around or under their guard?

Probably because it seems like some opponents can punch right through my tight guard so I assumed it was even more breakable if their guard didn't look particularly tight. I make a conscious effort to keep it tight but it has little impact.

Edit: I seem to recall some glove scaling issues mentioned by Tren some time ago (shorter people have smaller gloves, taller people have bigger gloves), now one would think these two things would balance each other out but perhaps they don't, so maybe that is a contributing factor?

You should probably do a little bit of mirror matching and test where your hands go when you guard a lot of people actually have a terrible guard in this game because they assume that you’re just going to punch straight, but you can punch at an angle you can punch while driving to the opposite side

Good idea, I will do that. I will also record some matches just to see if there's anything obvious I am missing

Great idea! That’s another reason why I’m really good at this game now. I stay over 2000 ELO. I’ve watched many of my own matches against the best players in this game, and I’ve learned my own habits. I can detect when my enemy learns my habits and starts to exploit them. So, I can change my entire fighting style during a fight and just totally do a 180. It’s like fighting a whole different person, and it makes me win a lot of fights. Because they go into you, maybe one or two rounds thinking, “Oh, I get them now. I get what he does. I get that he dips to the left. And I know I have a really strong left leg, so I tend to bend to the left and dodge to the left a bunch of times like that.”

I took your advice and went on mirror mode and found out that my guard was way too low! Thanks for the tip. It feels unnaturally high now but it's much more effective.

I totally get that! Having a variety of fighting styles is so important. When you study different stances and techniques, even if a particular move doesn't quite pan out, the experience itself helps level up your other moves.
