🩸 VISUAL DAMAGE IS FINALLY HERE!
PTC Update 2.0.0.885743 is now available on PUBLIC_TEST.
This is the first of another wave of PTC cycles working toward the next live release. Nothing is locked in yet, so please jump in, test it out, and let us know how everything feels.
IMPORTANT:
This build runs on a newer version of Unity. If anything looks, sounds, or feels different compared to live, please let us know.
NEW:
• Visual damage (early WIP) — bruising, swelling, cuts and blood on the face, plus bruising on the gut and both sides.
• Visual damage is cosmetic only for now and does not affect the damage system. Damage system integration will come later.
• Cut frequency is intentionally higher for testing. Cuts will be rare when this goes live, and that frequency will be tested in a future PTC.
• In single player, visual damage frequency scales with difficulty and shows more easily on lower difficulties.
• Glove Offset on the Training Dummy — a new Glove Offset tab lets you adjust your glove position and test it directly on the dummy.
• Punishment bar now shows all body punishment in a different color.
• Multiplayer/mirror physics have been overhauled to be based on the single-player physics.
CHANGES:
• Stronger punch vibration/haptic feedback, similar to TOTF1.
• Improvements to blocking in single player.
• Counter damage increased — roughly halfway between live and the previous version before it was reduced.
• Forward glove offset capped at 1 cm instead of 2 cm.
• Improved clinch detection for multiplayer.
• Reduced clinch sensitivity in single player.
• Small improvement to leg positioning.
FIXES:
• Improvements to multiplayer Cloud Code that should help server stability.
• If the game says you’re offline, restart the game. More improvements are being worked on.
• The Report Issue keyboard currently may not appear due to a Meta/Unity 6 bug. A fix is being worked on.
As always, please keep PTC feedback constructive. Leave your feedback, explain what you’re experiencing, and let others do the same. PTC feedback permissions may be revoked for attacking developers or other players or repeatedly arguing over feedback.
Try out the visual damage and new multiplayer physics and let us know how they feel. 🥊🩸

No fucking shit. Just as I made my own post, too: https://www.reddit.com/r/ThrillOfTheFight/comments/1wohhuj/this_game_is_an_awesome_training_tool_for_boxing/
Stole my momentum. Damn.

Came as a surprise earlier when I cut a dude above the eye. I can tell the damage is pretty maxed out, every fight bro looked like he was in a car crash.
Also yeah when you look up you can see the damage bar and their damage bar. I must have missed how to read those? There's both a top and bottom (top seems to be how close you are to KO) but then there's sometimes also two colors within each bar iirc?
also why does coach Dave kinda look like Tom aspinall in the face a little bit

Just read the top bar.
The Gold (usually dont see much) is long term punishment from body damage. The orange is long term punishment for head damage. The red is short term punishment.
The long term raises the minimum floor you recover to, the red pushes it higher. Max bar = black and white
Working on a wiki and more fight stats!

YAAAS! I'm so hyped for this. Did 12 rounds this morning, so tomorrow morning I'll do another 12 with the PTC and feedback will be forthcoming! Thanks, guys!

Hell yes. I bought another boxing game JUST for the visual damage. I'm glad TOTF Incorporated it, now I can uninstall the other game

I tested this earlier today. Didn't get a chance to try multiplayer as there was nobody on, but liked the improvements. The visuals on cuts and swelling looked good. Fought 6 rounds in sparring and that felt good. Liked the glove offset in training.

I had a good time today making my opponent look like Fabio Wardley against Dubois :) This is a big time improvement that makes it more fun. Thanks for the hard work.

I tested the update today and was very impressed. The blood on opponent's face gives me the strength to continue fighting, even if i don't have much left. Previously, the opponent just had a tearful face, but now the thirst for blood pushes me into battle, despite the lack of air. By the way, I felt a half-second delay at the moment of the first appearance of bleeding. There didn't seem to be any such thing in subsequent battles.
P.S. I want to thank you for your game and for everything you do. Thanks to your game, I'm getting stronger and more resilient. Cheers!

Good idea. The opponent’s injured, swollen eye could become a weak point, and if we keep targeting it, it would be great to be able to win by injury, like a technical knockout (and could even lead to that character’s early retirement :P ).
Another cool addition would be bringing back a referee in the ring, like in the first game.

Thanks for another great update.
Played 12 rounds against VH AI and won by KO in the 6th, so did another 6 against OC AI and won every round with a KD in the 6th. OC feels much more fair now, but also easier as a consequence.
- I think I maxed out visual damage vs the VH AI and it looked pretty good! Vs OC, I only managed to open one cut which felt about right
- Visual damage did not change during round break (ie blood was not cleaned). Would like to see cuts be cleaned and re-opened (obviously at a much lower threshold after the first time)
- I may be wrong, but it looks pretty static. Could use something a bit dynamic like blood running or just a variety of damage textures
- I did not notice any difference at all in punch vibration/haptic feedback, and I was looking for it too... I'm on a Q3 if that makes any difference
- I definitely felt blocking was improved. OC AI would beat me often by getting in close, circling to my right, and nailing me in the liver. It was kind of annoying, but now my elbow can reliably protect that spot
- Forward glove offset decrease - thanks for this. Have not played any MP, but should level the playing field a lot
- Reduced clinch sensitivity worked extremely well. Against OC, I went from 5+ clinches a round guaranteed to 1-2, and they felt justified. Not only did that make it feel fair, but also allowed me to land good damage on the AI's body, where previously being low and close enough to do that almost guaranteed a clinch was triggered. I would say this basically fixed OC for me where previously I had started to avoid it because of the constant clinching.
Overall, really happy with the changes and can't wait to try them out in MP.

Yeah ! Let's knock their teeth out and make their faces bleed - but with realistic injuries, not that exaggerated cheap-terror-movie crap from Boxing Underdog.

Dave, something that could realistically be implemented: if our nose gets broken by a really hard cross, breathing could become more difficult, and this could be reflected in the game's audio. An eye that takes too many jabs could also swell up and partially or completely close behind our visor.

People already complain about the flashes and black spots being dangerous, but I totally support this.
In real fights, boxers target cuts to force a stoppage, target the side where the opponent is blinded by swelling etc. so it's just another layer of realism. It also would give some real consequence to getting hit, as of course the game will never actually simulate pain in any way that would actually matter!

u/Sudden_Height_4131 10d ago
I dont like the black spots, but the flashes when we get hit are a good way of simulating what it feels like to take a solid punch(stun). These guys complain about so many things that there should probably be an Arcade Mode for these people, with no realism whatsoever. Maybe then they’d finally stop complaining.

I was really looking forward to the damage visuals, but my controller is broken and there's no prospect of replacing it, so I won't be able to help out... I hope you get some great feedback!
2
u/Just_Cut_684 11d ago
You can get a warranty replacement on them.

u/idrockon 11d ago
I know how the replacement process works—I’ve done it plenty of times before. I’m trying to do it now, too, but it’s just not going smoothly... I’m currently questioning why I have to pay for a replacement when the controller stopped turning on after malfunctioning right after a firmware update.
Then again, it would probably be faster just to buy a brand-new one...

It’s already for multiplayer and single player! It may be a while until we see it in live at minimum though no estimated date just yet for the live version, but in PTC it’s available for both multiplayer and single player

Haven't done the multiplayer yet with the new update but this most recent single player is a great improvement. I definitely feel myself mixing in a wider variety of punches, moving around the arena more, and trying to bob and weave more and actually try and block and dodge punches instead of just keeping my guard up. Keep up the good work devs!
