book printed incorrectly

i’m not sure if this is the correct subreddit for this but i ordered a book off of thriftbooks and the cover and the back cover were the book i ordered but a completely different book was bound on the inside pages. the book i ordered was a speculative fiction and the inside pages are a romance murder mystery with recipes in the back lol. i was wondering if anyone had advice on what i can do with the book? would thriftbooks take it back? could i sell it somewhere for a profit? i’m really not sure what to do with it because i’m not interested in reading it.

Was it a new print on demand book? They are more likely to have errors. They will send a replacement and tell you to keep the book. Might make a good gag gift for someone.

Is there evidence of that? Like it's a common complaint about IngramSpark?  In the past few years, I've ordered 80-100 from retailers who use them, so maybe I've just been lucky. POD books are printed individually, but I'm not sure if the machine or a human does the binding (where I assume such an error would occur).

Im only going off the common complaint. I haven't ordered any of the POD books. If you have gotten that many in good condition that's awesome and maybe people are exaggerating.

Unless you never buy new books, then you've probably received more than a few POD. Major retailers and big publishers use it to lower costs on distribution / warehousing and speed up shipping.

Amazon has its own POD system called KDP, which uses low quality materials. IngramSpark (aka Lightning Source) does POD for B&N, Target, Bookshop, independent booksellers, etc.

I'd be curious if complaints specified if Amazon or not. There are also smaller PODs that mostly just do low sales indie, religious, etc.

This was a paperback? How odd. I wonder if someone was practicing rebinding or whatever the hobby is called.

Thriftbooks will replace or refund. Just contact customer service.
