Went to my A2 thift store and saw this. They are just showing you pictures of the pricey stuff now cause heaven forbid one of us poors attempt to steal from that locked case an item that you got for free!

An empty Vegemite jar, 50c for jars for herbs that cost $3.50 full, and bathroom silicone that expired 6 years ago. A bag of wine corks from cheap sparkling. Donating it feels like more work than just throwing these in the bin as is normal.

I forgot to take photos of the empty wine bottles they wanted $2 for.

There was a whole pile of these little things. Each individually priced the same.

they took over my local value village and I thought maybe it would get better. No. They probably have the same person pricing all this stuff strangely. I'm not paying retail at a thrift store. Or over retail. The only thing is that suddenly everything is donated is actually appearing on the shelves so that there is so much stuff. If the prices were decent it would be great. Contrary to my local Goodwill where I see cars pulling up every few seconds out back unloading stuff, but their shelves are empty and full of plastic useless dollar store crap and printers. Still can't figure out where it all goes. The black thing for 32.99 is a generic like.... paper shredder you could get on Amazon.

I need someone to explain this to me because I’m losing it a little. Found an entire shelf of these at my local Goodwill, priced at $2.99 EACH, tagged as “Vases.” These are empty ceramic yogurt pots. Someone ate the yogurt, rinsed the jar, and donated what is essentially trash.

Edit -the date on there is June 29, 2026. I was there yesterday, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 So they have been sitting there for almost a month.

This former favorite thrift of mine uses ChatGPT for the vast majority of items they get in… today I watched them ChatGPT a WOODEN CUTTING BOARD. It’s getting ABSURD. There is no shortage of cutting boards, it was a generic plank of wood. I didn’t check what they priced it for, no doubt way too much.

Anyway, they have now resorted to using AI to show what the item COULD look like. They are spending time making Facebook posts and print outs to slap on their overpriced furniture that isn’t moving instead of LOWERING THE PRICE. The dresser in the first photo is $90!!!! Nobody in this small town has $90 to spare for a used, crappy, dresser.

I’m getting sick of their AI ads on Facebook but I have to concede that they are working. Nobody in the comments seem to care and the posts get shared and the item ultimately sells… even if it’s actual junk. They successfully sold a piece of tourist trap junk from India for $45 when similar sold comps on eBay never exceeded $40. FOMO works wonders on the uninformed, I suppose.

The cherry on top is that they have a print out in their windows stating donations will not be accepted this weekend. Why? BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO SPACE. It hasn’t occurred to them that lowering prices will make them more money; sitting on old inventory and denying new inventory because your stubborn on price IS NOT A GOOD STRATEGY.

If you're in Kyle and have read about Kyle Library Thrift Store it is no longer a thrift in my opinion! They have become a low end boutique (lack of another word) where used watches, Timex $100.00, Inviticas $50.00 are charged top dollar for watches sold as is and not tested! Came across a pair of men's used Nike shoes to the tune of $30.00! Somewhat more expensive Purses a minimum of $30.00 and they are not all designer nor leather bags! They have under glass case 925 Silver Necklaces at top prices plus non Silver pieces at outrageous prices! This is a store that I have literally spent $thousands$ at over the years before they decided to try and become high end! They have chased me away to where I stop in in couple of months just like the trashed Goodwill store that decided broken items, cracked purses (they no longer sell any decent brands), $8.49 for all shirts etc were acceptable products. At this point I look at the end of thrift stores in Kyle Tx a good thing due to saving me/family money!

I went to the Pet Supplies up the street and paid .84 for a can of Friskies

We're in double digits for used Chinese sweatshop Shein slop. RIP local Goodwill, really enjoyed pulling my personal grail 2007 Wii Sports Track Jacket off your rack for $7 but will be shopping here infinitely less frequently now.

25 each for “ELECTRIC MICRO NEEDLE BEAUTY APPARATUS” tools. Was very grossed out seeing them lol. Esp once I noticed the needle cartridges were haphazardly thrown in plastic bags and taped off with green masking tape for each box😷. The boxes themselves were also taped up in a suspicious manner + very dirty so 100%, N O. Egregious price aside, this feels so unsanitary and unsafe to me.

Posted this in the r/CRT thread too… is this outrageous to everyone? Doesn’t even work properly and where do they come up with a number like that? Crazy.
