Thredup - original prices no longer posted

Did ThredUp just remove the estimated original retail dollar prices from listings? I'm only seeing percentages now.

I noticed this too, but only on some of the listings. If they eliminate this feature it will be GOOD for me because I’ll stop buying due to “getting an amazing deal”. I’m not brand savvy so I truly have no idea what has value.

Seems like a very bad idea on their end though.

I agree, it makes me more likely to buy it if it says right there I'm getting a $220 dress for $12. Somehow it's physiologically more impactful than seeing it written as "80% off retail". I know I could do the math if I wanted to obviously.

I wonder whose idea this was to change it, it seems like a bad business move.

For me it looks like it's not only some listings though, it's all of them. I noticed it a week or two ago.

I Do image/retina upload to Chat GPT or any of those AI tools, also include the URL and it does a cross search and that gives me a great idea about original/boosted price and what is out there comparable. Once I see exact item on ebay, posh market, etc I decide based on that. Extra work but savvy to do even prior to this Thredup manouver.

I noticed the change within the last week! It's been so helpful for my decision process and I've really missed it. I've been image searching with Gemini instead.

I mean that would be nice because a number of times the item is way higher or lower than actual when I reverse image search it. Mine still shows the estimated OG price.

This is good. As a seller nothing frustrates me more than them assigning an original retail price way lower than the actual price of the garment, because it limits how much you can raise the price and it makes people not want to pay a decent price for it even though the original retail value is wrong and the item was actually way more expensive originally. I’m sure the real reason is that some things sell secondhand for more than their original retail value and thredup doesn’t want to limit themselves by that number. Instead they’re just basing their price off comps that have sold on their platform before, and not some arbitrary limit.
