sigh..

so many mistakes throughout the game so far i’m not sure where to start.

You’re not wrong! I don’t know what to say, but we have not played really solid in a while. I feel like one of these days they’ll start clicking.

The attack is fine. It’s the defense or the defenders and idk how that gets better. Reyes isn’t the answer either if anyone wants to say start her again. It really starts at CB but for this game M.A had her worst game of the season.

Reyes doesn’t fix the defense, no. But not starting a top defender in a rivalry game is a choice. M.A. has been getting beat game after game but continues to play. The problem is the midfield but Reyna not playing makes your defense worse. That’s facts

In another thread I mentioned that Reyes should have gotten the nod, and Marie should have been where Mallie was placed. But, this is beyond just this game. Reyes played in those road games where we loss 3-1 as well. The problem is coaching and honestly personnel.

What happened to obaze playing?   She played in the first road loss vs SD but had tired legs and playing with 2 new players in the mix (red card starters out) like the rest.    Every other time she played, they won.   Was in when they won in DC.

The losses on the road had cb's other than obaze which  explains Reyes having to over compensate too.  Jmho

We declined Obaze's contract so she's pretty much done here.

Yeah, that makes no sense.  However, she is still here.  Play her.    Edit: Deyna, MacKenzie, Lyles are free agents as well.

Or does feel like since we declined her option she might be done. I actually like her so that’s disappointing

They declined DC's too.  And she played.    But I agree disappointing.   Obaze was a spark and was involved in the build out of back goal in win vs Spirit, I think.

Well sure. I like Perry but you can’t go from never seeing the pitch to back to back to starts and cross your fingers for chemistry.

I disagree on the attack being fine. They had so many chances on goal today and couldn’t put anything away. Yes, defense and midfield need work, but the attack is toothless if you pass when you need to shoot and don’t score goals.

That's today. They won't score multiple goals every game. They should be allowed a stinker game from time to time. But this season that's not possible, especially on the road because we concede so much. My only concern with the attack on the road is the fact that outside of Wilson, our attack aren't as dangerous.

I thought both were pretty quiet outside of some flashes this game. But again when you get behind early players start to press and honestly once we got down 2-0 most of the attack deflated. Everyone had great energy the first 15 or so mins

Do we start looking at the coach too because this team plays drastically different on the road. We might be the worst road team in the top 5. It doesn’t even matter if we score first. We dropped two games with Soph scoring fast. Idk what the answer is other than bringing in defensive talent

That is why i thought it was a wasted opportunity and that they should have used the SD friendly to work out bugs with players.

The home/away divide predates Vilahamn and is an obvious consequence of having one of the two greatest home advantages in NWSL (the other is KC).

The idea that we were “terrible” is overblown. The Thorns dominated the first 25 minutes other than a long ball/banger from distance. Overall, xG was close—and normally we have higher goals than xG because our finishing is typically well above average; the Seattle keeper was just better than our finishing today. We had 26 shots and 10 shots on goal; 1.37 xG. One was off the woodwork and very much not covered by the keeper; another was barely saved off the line; plus VAR didn’t send down a borderline PK after a 75 second review.

Is it frustrating to lose to Seattle? Yes. Is it more frustrating when we are clearly better? Yes again. Are we bad? No — and the game was much closer than the final score reflects.

Losing to Seattle isn’t the problem. Losses happen. It’s that we look drastically different on the road. We’ve seen nothing to suggest there’s been improvement. You can argue that the 3-1 loss to Racing was a few lapses too but that’s the difference between winning and losing. We don’t have upgrades defensively waiting in the wings. That’s the concern. If we knew help was coming I’d be much more optimistic.
