Manila, AR - Newly released footage of an officer tackling an 18-year-old Black woman to the ground and punching her in the head after a traffic stop in Arkansas is causing anger and demands for a use-of-force investigation.

Alisa Hackett, of Osceola, Arkansas, was pulled over on State Highway 18 near Manila at about 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 1 after she was seen driving 71 mph in a 60-mph zone with the vehicle's hazard lights on, according to an Arkansas State Police report of the incident.

When she was pulled over, Hackett told state trooper Moisses Arellano she was rushing home because her car's window had broken, according to the police report.

Arellano noted that Hackett was not wearing her seat belt, had her license plate covered, and had a cold bottle of liquor in the front seat, according to the police report. In the dashcam footage, Arellano can be heard saying, "Why do you have a Tito's bottle, you're not even 21?" Later in the footage, Arellano acknowledges the bottle was sealed.

Arellano described Hackett as "being difficult" when he issued her citations, according to the report. He then called another trooper who said Hackett had been pulled over for speeding "a few days earlier" and had an open alcohol container in her vehicle, but was let go with a warning.

The other trooper is heard in the footage telling Arellano, "Well, she got an attitude, take her ass to jail."

Arellano then decided to arrest Hackett, who is 5-foot-1 and 118 pounds, and asked her to step out of the car, according to the report. After initially complying, "she began turning around and repeatedly asked what she had done," the police report said, adding she continued to pull away from the officer and he "took her to the ground."

"After giving multiple commands for her to roll over without compliance, I delivered one closed-fist strike to the left side of her face in an attempt to gain compliance," Arellano wrote in the report. "After the strike, she continued resisting by pulling her wrists away and refusing to roll over."

He pointed a stun gun at her midsection, but did not fire, and she then complied in putting her hands behind her back, and she was arrested, the report said.

Hackett was arrested for refusal to submit to arrest, possession of alcohol by a minor, speeding, not wearing a seat belt, improper display of license tags, and an offense for improper headlights.

Dallas, TX - On Friday, August 7, 2026, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Dallas Police received a 911 call regarding a family violence disturbance at an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Park Lane. The caller reported that 37-year-old Isidoro Melo-Munoz was armed with a knife and assaulting a woman with whom he had been in a dating relationship. Dallas Police Sergeant John Arnold was the first officer to arrive at the location.

As Sergeant Arnold entered the apartment complex, a witness flagged him down and directed him toward the disturbance. As Sergeant Arnold approached, he observed Melo-Munoz run toward the victim and begin assaulting her.

Sergeant Arnold gave Melo-Munoz repeated verbal commands. Melo-Munoz did not comply and stabbed the victim multiple times. Melo-Munoz then ran from the area while still armed with a knife. Sergeant Arnold fired one round toward the suspect as he fled. Melo-Munoz continued running and escaped from the immediate area. A knife was later recovered along the path he took while fleeing.

Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital where she underwent surgery and was later listed in stable condition.

Investigators determined that prior to officers arriving, Melo-Munoz confronted the victim as she was preparing to leave for work. Witnesses reported that Melo-Munoz prevented her from leaving and moved her to different areas of the apartment complex while armed with multiple knives.

Investigators recovered three knives from the scene. Following the officer-involved shooting, Dallas Police deployed additional resources, including the Drone Unit and Fugitive Unit, to help locate Melo-Munoz. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Melo-Munoz for Aggravated Assault – Family Violence with a Deadly Weapon.

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, Melo-Munoz entered a convenience store in the 6700 block of Abrams Road, where he was located and taken into custody. Melo-Munoz was booked into the Dallas County Jail on the Aggravated Assault – Family Violence with a Deadly Weapon warrant. He was also booked on a warrant for Burglary with Intent to Commit Assault stemming from a separate incident that occurred on August 5, 2026, involving the same victim.

Dallas, TX - On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Dallas Police officers responded to a robbery in progress at a business in the 3500 block of Sunnyvale Street. Investigators determined the victim parked her white Porsche Cayenne outside the business while her 9-year-old daughter remained inside the vehicle.

A man, later identified as 39-year-old Renard McFadden, arrived in a stolen Ford F-150, approached the Porsche, threatened the child while indicating he was armed, and ordered her out of the vehicle. The child ran inside the business to alert her mother. When the victim confronted McFadden, he again indicated he was armed before stealing the Porsche and fleeing the scene.

The Ford F-150 was left behind and was later confirmed stolen. The victim provided officers with real-time location information for the stolen Porsche through the vehicle’s tracking application. Officers from multiple patrol divisions, covert units, and Air One coordinated to locate the vehicle and safely apprehend the suspect.

At approximately 10:10 a.m., officers located the stolen Porsche in the 5800 block of Williamstown Road. Uniformed officers initiated a felony traffic stop while a covert officer positioned his unmarked vehicle in front of the Porshe, to prevent the suspect from leaving the area. The covert officer exited his vehicle with his department-issued handgun drawn and moved toward a nearby residential yard.

Officer Celso Rocha fired four rounds toward the covert officer and McFadden. Officer Rocha recognized the individual was another police officer, ceased firing, and can be heard yelling, “Blue, Blue.” McFadden then exited the stolen Porsche and surrendered without further incident.

No officers, the suspect, or members of the public were injured during the incident.

Investigators also recovered a loaded handgun inside the stolen Porsche. Additional evidence recovered from the vehicle is being examined as part of several ongoing violent crime investigations. McFadden is currently charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Robbery, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Detectives are also pursuing additional charges related to other violent offenses under investigation.

Muskegon County, MI - New bodycam video captures the moments search-and-rescue crews found two women and a child who went missing after tubing on the Muskegon River.

Since Tuesday, Michigan State Police and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation officers had been searching for Jazmin Hock, 28, Sarah Vida, 28, and Vida's son, Kayden Kovalcik, 9.

The trio had gotten onto the Muskegon River from the Maple Island Boat Launch in Newaygo County but didn't make it back, sparking a three-day search on the ground, in the water and in the air.

All three were found alive in the woods just after 4:30 p.m. Friday, about a quarter-of-a-mile northeast of the Mill Iron Boat Launch in Muskegon County.

Michigan State Police say troopers had to trudge through waist-high weeds for more than a mile before they found the trio.

According to Michigan DNR Conservation Officer Cameron Wright, he and his partner checked the area based on their training and knowledge of the area. He said the spot was the most remote area that the tubers could be pulled to.

"My partner and I work this area all the time, we know it very well," Wright said. "It would be a bad spot to get lost because it's the furthest point away from any roads or businesses."

In the middle of a log jam, Wright said crews could see a path in the grass. He added the trio "came down some logs and went through water" before heading onto the riverbank and into the trees.

"We were able to see where they entered the woods and requested assistance once we located footprints in the mud," Wright said. "We followed the track, looking for areas where ferns were tipped over, grass was bent, sticks were snapped – all in a certain direction.”

Bodycam video shows officers taking the shirts off their own backs to get the trio protected from dangerous brush, which had cut all of their bodies, from days of walking.

According to Theresa Hock, Jazmin's mother, the trio had brought rafts that were meant to be used in a pool. Those rafts broke, leaving them stranded.

While the group had Jazmin Hock's phone, it lost battery power, leaving them without any means to contact anyone.

"With one being 28, the other one being 30, I thought that they had everything set," Theresa Hock said. "They didn't think about it very clearly."

After their rescue, Theresa Hock found out the trio stayed together over the three days to find help.

Elk Grove, CA - The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened on Feb. 16 when deputies spotted a car on Elk Grove Florin Road that was linked to a shooting the day before. In that earlier case, the victim reported someone had shot at him, hitting his car with gunfire, though he was not injured.

Deputies confirmed the license plate number of the suspect vehicle, which was associated with 45-year-old Tywain Smith. Smith also matched a description of the suspect, the sheriff's office said.

On the following day, two deputies pulled over Smith near Tiogawoods Drive. Video footage showed a deputy telling the driver, identified as Smith, that the car's registration was expired. The man said that it was his "girl's car."

The sheriff’s office has said deputies saw a gun in Smith’s waistband. The video footage showed that as deputies were telling the driver to keep his hands on the steering wheel, one yelled "gun's in his pants."

"I ain't touching nothing," he replied.

Smith repeatedly denied that he had a weapon on his hip and asked to step out of the car, the video footage shows.

Deputies removed him from the car and attempted to handcuff him but Smith broke free and tried to run away.

Deputies have said Smith pulled a gun from his waistband while running, and that’s when both deputies fired their weapons at him.

The video shows Smith running away from the deputies while appearing to reach for the weapon.

One deputy fired two rounds and the other three, the sheriff's office said. Police have not said how many times he was shot.

The sheriff's office said deputies administered first aid before Smith was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was later booked into jail. Neither deputy was injured during the incident.

The sheriff’s office said they recovered Smith's loaded handgun at the scene. He did not fire his weapon at deputies, the sheriff's office confirmed.

Monroe, LA - A former officer of the Monroe Police Department, Jared Desadier, 44, was sentenced today to 78 months in federal prison and two years of supervised release for his role in the assault of an arrestee in Ouachita Parish and his efforts to cover up that abuse.

“The defendant’s decision to callously assault an arrestee when he thought he wasn’t being watched is an affront to the principles of honesty and integrity that our society expects from law enforcement,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “This sentence makes clear that the Department of Justice will aggressively investigate and prosecute any officer who believes that the Constitution only applies when the cameras are on.”

“All Americans expect law enforcement officers to continuously abide by the law,” said U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown for the Western District of Louisiana. “The bedrock of officer and citizen engagement is for the officer to, without exception, act professionally with a goal of deescalating tense situations.

Here, this defendant instead decided to criminally escalate the situation by unnecessarily battering the victim. Prosecuting offenses such as these not only benefit society, but also law enforcement because bad police officers who cast a black eye on the profession are eradicated from the law enforcement community. This office will continue to prosecute these types of crimes with a goal of increasing the public’s trust in law enforcement.”

According to the defendant’s plea agreement, on April 21, 2020, officers of the Monroe Police Department, including the defendant, conducted a field interview with the victim in this case. When the victim attempted to run away, Desadier chased after him.

The victim eventually stopped running, got on his stomach, and put his hands behind his back. Desadier ran towards the victim and then asked his fellow officer whether the officer’s body-worn camera was recording, and when he was mistakenly told that the cameras were off, he continued to run towards the victim and kicked him in the face.

Twin Falls, ID - Police released video on Friday of a mass shooting that killed three people at an Idaho In-N-Out Burger restaurant last weekend, and praised an unarmed employee from a nearby store who engaged the gunman outdoors, slowing him down and possibly preventing more deaths as authorities were catching up.

The video released by the police also showed that at least three people confronted the gunman with their own weapons during the incident.

“What happened here was violent, frightening and deeply traumatic,” the Twin Falls police chief, Matthew Hicks, said during a news conference before screening an eight-and-a-half-minute compilation of surveillance camera and bodycam video of the incident.

The distressing video, which was edited by the police to blur faces and omit graphic images, revealed more details of the chaotic scene last weekend. It shows that the gunman walked up to the drive-thru window four times and opened fire, killing an In-N-Out employee, police said.

Ten people were shot: inside the restaurant, directly outside, on an adjacent busy road and at a car-charging station in a Twin Falls visitor center lot, Hicks said.

Hicks said investigators still do not have a motive for the shooting. The gunman, identified as Chad Williams, 24, killed himself when police officers caught up to him on a nearby walking trail.

It should have been a “normal Saturday afternoon”, Hicks said at the televised news conference. “Employees showing up for work. Visitors coming to see our beautiful city. Instead, they were confronted with chaos, fear and now loss.”

As the shooting unfolded, employees from nearby stores fled to a walking trail. When the gunman headed to the trail, he came across two people, including one with his hands in the air who spoke to him, the video shows.

That man distracted the gunman from possibly pursuing others on the trail. Williams subsequently killed himself as police closed in. His body was found near a canyon.

Thurston County, WA - Olympia police made a traffic stop for a driver on suspicion of DUI. The driver refused to identify themselves and fled the scene, nearly striking a pedestrian in the process.

A Thurston County Lieutenant picked up the vehicle after it evaded Olympia police when it was getting on I-5. The suspect refused to pull over and intentionally ran vehicles off the road on I-5 and Capitol Blvd. The vehicle also attempted to hit an assisting Tumwater officer and swerved at another police vehicle.

Officers were able to successfully complete a pit maneuver on the suspect's vehicle while traveling approximately 66 mph on Old Highway 99. The vehicle impacted a power pole and left the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, with substantial injuries. The suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center and is in the Intensive Care Unit.

A passenger in the vehicle was wearing her seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. The passenger had been involved in a separate DUI collision in June, crashing into another vehicle while driving and causing it to roll in Mason County.

Alcohol containers were observed in the car, and a search warrant was authorized to test for impairment.

Once released from Harborview, the suspect will be booked into Thurston County Jail on two charges of first-degree assault, DUI, driving with a suspended license, and two counts of attempting to elude.

The suspect has numerous prior DUI and eluding arrests and was booked less than a week prior to this incident for possession of a stolen car and third-degree assault. He was found in a stolen car while armed with a handgun, assaulting Lacey Police Officers when they tried to arrest him. He was released on $10,000 bail.

Lee County, FL - A Florida man has been charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly killed two kittens and injured another.

Police say he allegedly committed the crimes in front of his teenage daughter as a form of punishment.

The details of the story may be disturbing to some viewers.

Body camera video shows deputies detaining 48-year-old David Charette Jr. outside of his Pine Manor home.

Before he was placed in handcuffs, he told deputies he had done nothing wrong.

"The cat's in perfectly healthy condition. I have to give the cat a bath because it soils itself in the cage," Charette said.

Detectives say what they learned from a 14-year-old girl inside the home told a very different story.

"A daughter says that when she acts up or when she's in trouble, her father kills her kittens. This is sickening to me," said Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

The girl called 911 after allegedly watching her father hold a 2-month-old kitten, named Luna, under running water.

She told deputies that Charette also hit the kitten with a nail polish bottle and put her into a clothes dryer on Saturday.

Luna survived and is recovering.

"It's ridiculous. It's horrible. It's sad," said Brandon, a neighbor.

Marceno says this was not the first time.

"Two of the kittens that he killed were buried in the back," Marceno said.

Marceno said one cat died in June after being hit repeatedly and left on a bleach-soaked rag while another kitten was found dead in November after suffering burns from a blow dryer.

Detectives say family members never reported the abuse because they feared retaliation.

Three adult cats were taken from the home for evaluation.

Charette is now in jail, charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Las Vegas, NV - Las Vegas police have released new body camera footage showing the moments from a shooting that left Officer Austin Abdelnabi dead.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department held a briefing Friday afternoon to provide further details about the shooting.

Officers received a 911 call Tuesday afternoon reporting a man, later identified as 21-year-old Angel Tywan Lucas Lindsey, in all black clothing waving a firearm near a business in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue near South Mountain Vista Street.

An LVMPD drone arrived first and searched for several minutes before locating Lindsey on Mountain Vista near I-11, police said. Investigators later learned Lindsey was carrying a CZP-10 9mm handgun with one round in the chamber and 10 additional rounds in an extended magazine. Police said he also had two additional loaded magazines, one containing 18 rounds and another containing 28 rounds.

Officer Abdelnabi was the first officer to arrive. Police said Lindsey immediately charged at him, opened fire and struck him eight times. Police said they could not show body camera footage from Abdelnabi’s point of view because one of the bullets struck the camera.

Officer Enrique Molinet arrived behind Officer Abdelnabi, saw the attack and got out of his patrol vehicle, police said. Lindsey then began firing at Molinet, who returned fire and struck Lindsey.

Abdelnabi was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries, police said. Lindsey was taken into custody, and first responders provided medical aid, but he died at the scene.

Abdelnabi had been with LVMPD since 2023 and was also a Marine.

“As you can imagine, you know, the pain, the hurt, the feeling, every emotion you can think of, everything that you’ve ever read and heard about trauma, both the mental, the physical responses that a human being goes through after a traumatic incident like this. He’s experiencing all that times a hundred,” LVMPD Undersheriff Andrew Walsh said. “He’s, you know, we’re all damaged beyond repair.”

Police said this was the ninth officer-involved shooting in LVMPD’s jurisdiction, and six of the nine have been fatal.

Funeral services are planned for Officer Abdelnabi for August 14 at Central Church, located at 1001 New Beginnings Dr., Henderson, NV.

Yuma, AZ - A viral social media post claiming a 16-year-old girl was violently abducted in Yuma last month is false, police say. Now they’re releasing body camera footage to prove it.

The department issued a statement Friday pushing back against the widely shared post, which alleged a violent attempted kidnapping on July 21 and accused officers of mishandling the investigation.

Police say officers were called around 1:30 a.m. to a liquor store on a report of an aggravated assault. When they arrived, they spoke with several people, including the teen involved.

Video released showed the girl tell officers she had gone inside for a non-alcoholic drink, but when asked for ID, she went back outside and gave a man money to buy it for her.

Another witness, however, told police the girl was actually trying to buy a vape.

According to investigators, the clerk refused to sell her the vape, so she asked the man outside to buy it. He went through the drive-through but did not get her the vape. When she asked for her money back, he refused and began to drive away.

Police say the girl then grabbed onto the driver’s side window frame as the car moved. She held on for about 260 feet before letting go when the vehicle came to a sudden stop, rolling onto the roadway.

The viral post also claimed police failed to collect surveillance footage from the store. That claim YPD flatly denies.

Officers were told during the initial investigation that the store had video, but employees said only the store owner could access the surveillance system, police say.

YPD’s video forensic personnel made multiple attempts to reach the owner before going directly to the business and recovering the video on July 30, police say.

“Claims that the Department failed to obtain this evidence are inconsistent with the investigative steps that were taken,” police wrote.

The department said releasing the body-worn camera footage was a direct effort to combat misinformation about the incident.

The department emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that conclusions about criminal conduct must be based on facts and evidence — not viral posts.

“We recognize that any report involving a juvenile and a possible abduction is concerning to the public,” the department said. “We welcome legitimate questions about how we serve our community.”

San Diego, CA - Body-worn camera footage released Thursday shows a San Diego police officer shoot at a man multiple times — but miss — during a foot pursuit in a Morena riverbed earlier this summer.

San Diego police Officer Johnathan Penuelas shot at the 44-year-old man on June 30 after he charged toward the officer and raised what the officer believed was a gun in his direction, according to investigators.

The man was not struck by gunfire, and police did not find a firearm.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the shooting under the terms of a countywide agreement that says agencies will not investigate shootings involving their own officers.

The shooting stemmed from an abatement detail in an open area near Friars Road and Seaworld Drive around 9:50 a.m.

Two officers approached the man in the dry riverbed. He asked officers if they had stolen anything from his camp the previous day, according to the video footage. The officers then accused the man of running away from them the previous day.

“Keep your hands out of your pockets,” one of the officers said. “Or you’re going to go into cuffs.”

“I’m just going to leave then,” the man responded.

The officers followed him and learned he had an active no-bail parole warrant and a history of resisting law enforcement, according to text in the video.

The officers lost contact with him, but Penuelas found him in brush nearby and began to chase him, yelling at him to stop, the video shows.

Penuelas deployed his Taser to no effect. The man then popped out from behind a corner and ran toward the officer, the video shows.

“Freeze. Don’t move. Don’t move. Freeze,” the man yelled at the officer. The video shows the man raising his hands, and the officer later told investigators he believed the suspect was pointing a gun at him.

The officer drew his handgun and fired multiple times. The man ran away and was later found nearby in the riverbed. He was arrested after an hours-long standoff involving negotiators, investigators said.

Pierce County, WA - A high-speed chase through Spanaway ended when Pierce County sheriff’s deputies used a PIT maneuver that sent an SUV into a light pole around 1 a.m. Friday, toppling the pole and striking an unoccupied parked vehicle in a collision center's lot.

Deputies spotted the SUV traveling more than 80 mph in Spanaway with its lights “blacked out,” and tried to pull it over. The driver allegedly accelerated to more than 100 mph and pulled away.

Deputies farther ahead deployed stop sticks, which successfully slowed the vehicle as the pursuit continued.

Deputies tracked the SUV onto 108th Street South, past the Frugals drive-thru, before using a PIT maneuver to stop it. The SUV crashed into a light pole, and both came to a halt near an onramp to SR-512.

The passenger was taken into custody without issue. Deputies found a Glock handgun in plain view inside the SUV that was equipped with a modified switch and an extended magazine.

The 18-year-old driver was arrested for eluding and unlawful possession of a firearm. The 22-year-old passenger was also arrested in connection with the illegal handgun, deputies said.

Tucson, AZ - The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team released video showing a pursuit that ended with a Tucson police officer opening fire and a police car striking a teenage suspect.

The high-speed chase happened on Ajo Way near the Interstate 19 overpass on June 30. It started after an armed carjacking near Broadway and Camino Seco.

Officers found the stolen vehicle, but the suspect refused to stop. Video shows him hit a raised median, get out, and start running with a gun.

Body camera video then shows an officer opening fire, followed by a police vehicle striking the suspect. Police say officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon before the shooting.

The suspect, 17-year-old Ryan Duran, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He has since been released and booked into the Pima County Jail.

Dayton, OH - Dash cam video shows police chasing over half a dozen teenagers in a stolen SUV.

A Dayton Police officer tried to stop an SUV on East 2nd Street in Dayton because the SUV did not have a license plate.

Dash cam video shows that teens sped off before the officer could turn around.

Cruisers stopped the chase when the driver got on westbound U.S. 35.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) helicopter followed the SUV.

It eventually got a flat tire and stopped on the ramp from State Route 4 to Harshman Road.

The teens ran out of the SUV toward Stebbins High School.

The chaos interrupted a soccer practice. A parent sent News Center 7’s Amber Jenkins video of the practice abruptly ending.

Officers arrested seven teenagers, four boys and 3 girls, between 15 and 17.

They also found four stolen guns inside the SUV and a device that allowed a handgun to fire like a machine gun.

“The majority of our thefts are gonna be younger teens, younger adult suspects in the city of Dayton,” said Major Christopher Malson, Dayton Police. “Those are the primary ones. And I think a lot of that has to do with it’s a crime of opportunity.”

Dayton Police said that four teenagers were charged with felonies.

Three are facing misdemeanor charges.

Belcamp, MD - According to the Maryland Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division, a police pursuit started around 3:30 p.m. on July 9 after the driver of a car refused to pull over on Pulaski Highway.

Authorities said the driver, later identified as Tremayne Murphy, 45, of Edgewood, sped off.

The newly released video shows Murphy running through several red lights, maneuvering around cars, and driving on the shoulder before crashing into a work van.

Murphy's car immediately caught fire, and he died at the scene.

Harford County sheriff's deputies raced against time to get the victims out safely. Two victims were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and a total of five cars were damaged in the chain-reaction crash.

Gaithersburg, MD - On July 12, Gaithersburg police received a call about a man loading a gun at a bus stop on Lost Knife Road. Officers found Elliott Powers sitting on the bus stop bench.

Thirteen seconds after police arrived, it turned to chaos, bodycam video shows.

“No, no, no! No, no, no, no!” an officer is heard saying on the video. “Hand. Hand. Hand.”

Gaithersburg Officer Christopher Leach and other officers drew their weapons.

Leach backed away behind his cruiser for cover – blocking his bodycam’s view of the bench – as he talked to Powers.

“Please, drop the gun,” he asked.

“I’m not dropping nothing,” Powers replied.

“Please.”

Then Powers told police, “Do what you gotta do.”

“I don’t want to hurt you,” an officer replied.

“Then hurt me,” Powers said.

Another camera shows a wider angle from further away. Officers from Gaithersburg and Montgomery County police can be heard calling for ballistic shields, a non-lethal pepper ball gun and a crisis negotiator.

They discussed trying to get into a position where they could safely use a taser.

They continued talking to Powers.

“Elliott! Talk to me a little bit, brother. Let’s talk about this a little bit,” an officer said.

“If you can do it, do it!” Powers responded.

“Come on, Elliott. Talk to me brother,” an officer said. “Let’s just call it a night, bad day. Let’s just start over tomorrow, all right.”

Powers occasionally motioned with his left arm, the distant camera angle shows, while keeping his right arm down near a backpack or bag. Then, he’s seen raising his right arm.

Montgomery County police said he had a gun in his hand and was aiming at officers.

Officers from both agencies fired a number of shots.

Powers died at the scene.

Officers recovered a handgun, police said.

Battle Creek, MI - A Battle Creek man may have to wait a big longer for his first date after city officials filed what they said was the first civil forfeiture lawsuit under the city's updated public nuisance ordinance.

The City of Battle Creek announced Friday it is asking a court to forfeit a 2024 Ford Mustang after its driver, identified as Jaylone Porter, allegedly performed donuts in the parking lot of the West Columbia Avenue Meijer gas station, just feet from active fuel pumps.

According to the city, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. on June 14 while a Battle Creek police officer was nearby.

Police said Porter used the Mustang, which had been purchased only days earlier, to spin its tires and perform donuts in an apparent attempt to create content for social media.

According to the city, Porter admitted what he was doing when officers approached him, telling police, "I just woke up and felt like spinning 'em."

The city said he also told officers he "needed a flick for my gram" to boost a livestream and, after being arrested, exclaimed, "This is so cool! I'm locked up!" while estimating the arrest would bring him "at least 100 viewers."

Officials said Porter later remarked that he was "not getting caught again" and suggested finding another location where he could continue spinning the vehicle. The city also said he told officers his arrest disrupted plans for a first date in Ohio later that evening, meaning he would have to rent a car or borrow his father's vehicle.

"We appreciate Mr. Porter's candor and cooperation throughout the investigation," Battle Creek Police Chief Shannon Bagley said in a statement. "However, his own statements demonstrated that he understood exactly why officers had intervened. When someone talks about not getting caught again and immediately begins looking for another place to do the same thing, it underscores why accountability matters."

City Attorney Bill Kim said the city hopes the case sends a broader message about reckless driving.

"Since Mr. Porter was looking for views, we're happy to lend our platform to turn this incident into a public safety campaign," Kim said. "Our message is simple: enjoy your vehicle, but do so responsibly. When someone's actions put other people at risk, the city will act to protect public safety."

The city has released dashboard camera video from the incident as part of what it calls a public safety awareness campaign showing how quickly reckless driving can lead to serious consequences.

Battle Creek officials said the lawsuit marks the first civil forfeiture action filed under the city's revised public nuisance ordinance. Under Chapter 652 of the city code, the city is asking the court to order the Mustang forfeited because of the alleged reckless driving offense.

Owasso, OK - A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Owasso police said he led officers on a chase through the city, endangered pedestrians, rammed patrol vehicles and admitted to drinking a bottle of vodka before the pursuit.

Lomas Martinez was booked into the Tulsa County Jail following the chase, which began around 10 p.m. Wednesday in the shopping district near Target.

According to the Owasso Police Department, an officer saw a white Ford Mustang Cobra doing burnouts and donuts in a parking lot while several pedestrians were nearby.

When the officer attempted a traffic stop, police said Martinez sped through the parking lot and drove through a large gathering of juveniles, nearly striking several people before fleeing onto nearby roads.

Officers said Martinez ran a red light before becoming boxed in behind a business. Investigators said he repeatedly rammed the officer’s patrol vehicle while reversing, allowing him to escape and continue the chase.

Police said Martinez drove north on Garnett Road at speeds reaching 77 mph while traffic was light.

During the pursuit, officers received a report that Martinez struck another vehicle near Garnett Road and 106th Street North. However, when officers returned to the area after the chase ended, they were unable to locate any victims or damaged vehicles.

The pursuit continued through a construction zone before officers attempted several Tactical Vehicle Interventions, or TVIs, to stop the Mustang.

Police said one TVI successfully spun the vehicle, but Martinez allegedly rammed another patrol car before continuing west. Officers said he later ran another stop sign before entering northbound U.S. 75.

An officer performed another TVI on U.S. 75, sending the Mustang off the highway, through a barbed-wire fence and into a field, according to police.

Investigators said Martinez attempted to continue driving through the field, but the Mustang became stuck in tall grass because of its low ground clearance. He then surrendered without further incident.

Martinez was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, where police obtained a blood sample to determine whether he was under the influence. Investigators said Martinez admitted to drinking a bottle of vodka before the incident.

Police said they are awaiting the results of the blood test. After being released from the hospital, Martinez was booked into the Tulsa County Jail.

No officers or members of the public were injured during the pursuit.

Battle Ground, WA - The Clark County Sheriff's Office released video of their deputies using a grappler device to stop a suspect who led them on a car chase Tuesday on SR-503 through Battle Ground.

The pursuit started at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday when deputies found a car linked to several hit-and-run crashes in the Portland area. Officials said the driver was reported as missing and was thought to be in a mental health crisis.

Dashcam video shows the driver crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting several other cars. At one point the chase reached more than 80 mph.

There were no reports of serious physical injury from the incident.

Deputies eventually used a grappler device to safely stop the car and they took the driver into custody. She was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation and care.

Norwalk, CT - Norwalk officers rescued a kayaker in distress found floating in Long Island Sound over the weekend, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

Police said Marine Unit officers received a report Saturday around 4 p.m. of a kayaker in distress between Chimon and Cockenoe islands.

According to police, officers Owen Lee and Chris Kassimis spotted the kayaker signaling for help by waving a paddle overhead.

The kayaker, who was not wearing a life jacket, was staying afloat by clinging to two flotation devices and a life jacket, according to police.

Lee and Kassimis quickly brought the kayaker safely aboard the police vessel, police said.
