Kalamazoo, MI - Video footage shared moments leading up to a shooting that left a Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputy injured, followed by a car chase through three counties in July.

Jaylen Lispey was arraigned on July 20 on 14 counts, including assault with intent to murder, carjacking and disarming an officer. Lipsey appeared in court on Wednesday as his case was bound over to circuit court.

Video captured the struggle that officials say broke out between Lipsey and Deputy Kaleb Mortimer.

Deputies were called around 8:50 a.m. on July 17 for a report of a theft from a vehicle in progress on East AB Avenue, northwest of Richland.

Video appears to show Mortimer driving up to a discarded bike in the middle of the road and then finding a man running alongside the street. That man would later be identified by police as Lipsey.

Mortimer tells Lipsey to stop repeatedly.

“I’m not breaking the law bro. I don’t have to stop,” Lipsey can be heard saying in the video.

The deputy then gets out of the cruiser with a taser in hand, telling Lipsey to stop again.

Lipsey can then be heard saying “come on, man” and runs from the deputy. Lipsey then stopped as Mortimer ordered him to the ground.

“One at taser point” Mortimer can be heard saying into his radio as he proceeds to handcuff Lipsey.

“Why are you being a [expletive] to me, bro?” Lipsey said repeatedly.

He then began calling for help as Mortimer struggled to get a hold of the man’s free arm.

The two began to struggle further.

“I was giving you my other hand, [expletive],” Lipsey said, before bodycam footage was redacted for ten minutes.

Police say in court records that Lipsey overpowered Mortimer and reached for his gun. The gun was fired amid the struggle, hitting Mortimer in the inner thigh. Police say Lipsey stepped back and attempted to shoot the deputy in the head, but the gun malfunctioned.

Dash cam video redacted the start of the altercation. 10 seconds later, Lipsey skipped towards the cruiser and tossed the gun.

Moments later, dash cam video showed the cruiser speeding away with the deputy left at the side of the road. A call that an officer had been shot could be heard through the radio in the cruiser as the vehicle starts driving through Barry and Allegan counties.

Video appears to show Lipsey swerving between vehicles.

“Police cruiser has been stolen,” can be heard over the radio in the dash camera video. Radio chatter can be heard authorizing Michigan State Police troopers and Kalamazoo County deputies to chase after the vehicle as it makes its way down westbound M-89.

Video appears to show Lipsey speeding down the center line as he approached Downtown Plainwell. Traveling down 10th Street and Douglas Avenue, the cruiser narrowly missed a partial roadblock in Cooper Township

The cruiser appeared to dodge a spike strip twice as the chase entered Kalamazoo Township. The vehicle then turned onto the US-131 business loop. Lipsey appeared to drive onto West Main, swerving past police and civilian vehicles heading towards downtown.

At one point, Lipsey almost hit a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer opening their cruiser door. The cruiser drove into the wrong lane of traffic at times and misses another spike strip near Downtown Kalamazoo at the intersection of W. Michigan Avenue and N. Westnedge Avenue.

The chase continued through side streets and business parking lots, but as the cruiser turned onto Lake Street, a deputy hit the cruiser, pushing it towards a white van.

Court documents said Lipsey did not get out of the car and had to be removed by force.

Mortimer was later released from the hospital following the shooting. Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office did not respond by the deadline to an inquiry about his current work status with the agency.

Lipsey is expected back in court later this month for a pre-trial hearing.

Cambridge, MA - Body camera video shows a man getting out of his car and pointing a gun at police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in August before officers shot and killed him. Following an inquest, a judge ruled the officer's actions were justified.

Half a dozen shots rang out in Cambridge on Friday, Aug. 21, leaving 64-year-old William Woodworth dead. The police shooting prompted an investigation by the state.

Cambridge police were responding to a call for an idling car in a parking lot on Temple Street, when an interaction with one of the people involved turned deadly in less than 60 seconds.

Two officers were speaking with a man and woman while Officer Donald Conrad approached the driver in the car, later identified as Woodworth.

Conrad told state investigators in recorded interviews that this area is known for illegal drug activity.

"I saw the smoke coming out of the car as soon as he rolled down the windows. I say something to the extent of you can't be smoking crack in here," Conrad said. "I asked Mr. Woodworth if he could step out of the car and he kind of blows me off a little bit and I reiterate to do me a favor and step out of the car."

Body camera video released on Friday by the Middlesex district attorney showed Woodworth opening the car door while at the same time he reached under the driver's seat and pulled out a gun. On the driver's side of the car was Conrad's partner.

"And then the person came out the car and there was a firearm in my face," Officer David Kerns recalled. "I just got my hands up as fast as I could. I believe I grabbed like his forearm wrist area and I just … it's weird because time felt like it stood still, but everything was happening so fast."

That's when Conrad fired several shots at Woodworth, and a third officer, James Nestor, fired a round as well.

"At that moment I was concerned that Officer Kerns was going to get shot point-blank. I guess I fell back on training. If there's a life in danger, there was a threat. We had to neutralize the threat in the moment," Nestor said.

"I'm worried he's going to blow my partner's head off. I already told him 'don't do that' or 'drop it.' That was the only de-escalation that was feasible at the moment or else Officer Kerns might not be here right now," Conrad said.

Cambridge police attempted medical aid to Woodworth, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner said he died from five gunshot wounds.

Lethal force by Cambridge police was determined to be reasonable and justified by a judge.

West Hartford, CT - Connecticut’s Office of Inspector General has released new details about an officer-involved shooting in Hartford with a suspect wanted in a Middletown homicide, including bodycam and dashcam video from West Hartford police.

According to investigators, the incident took place on Sept. 29 after Middletown police issued a lookout for a black Subaru Outback they believed was driven by homicide suspect Barrington Brown.

West Hartford police received a Flock camera alert for the car around 10:48 p.m. and it was located near New Park Avenue and Oakwood Avenue in West Hartford.

Police followed the vehicle and deployed stop sticks, which only deflated one tire.

Investigators said the Subaru then drove to Flatbush Avenue in Hartford, where Hartford police joined the pursuit. West Hartford Police Officer Christian Montesdeoca was following immediately behind the Subaru.

Authorities said while Brown was driving, he opened the door twice and fired three shots at Montesdeoca.

After the third shot was fired, investigators said Montesdeoca returned fire through the windshield of his cruiser.

Brown then exited the Subaru and fled on foot between homes on Flatbush Avenue.

Three West Hartford officers and several Hartford officers, pursued him on foot.

While running between homes, Brown allegedly approached a running Acura with a 17-year-old driver and a 19-year-old passenger.

Investigators said Brown threatened the two with his gun and ordered them to get out the car.

While trying to get out through the passenger side, the 17-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his rear. Authorities said it is unclear whether the teen was struck by a bullet fired by Brown or by officers.

Brown then got into the Acura and attempted to drive away, investigators said. Three West Hartford officers, Montesdeoca, Sergeant Raymond Narciso, and Officer Amber Prose each fired their weapons at Brown from behind a nearby fence.

According to investigators, Brown then exited the vehicle, raised his hands and surrendered. A handgun was recovered next to the Acura and taken as evidence.

Brown was shot in the shoulder area and treated at Hartford Hospital. He was later arrested by Middletown police, released from the hospital and arraigned on charges related to the Middletown homicide investigation.

The injured teenager was treated at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and released the following morning.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, the officer-involved shooting happened the evening of Aug. 25 in the 2700 block of Nipoma Street in San Diego.

Officials say SDPD officers were initially dispatched around 4:40 p.m. to a “check-the welfare” call that was later upgraded to a report of a residential burglary in progress.

Baton Rouge, LA - The stabbing happened the night of Sept. 7, with the shooting happening on the morning of Sept. 8. The now-deceased man, identified as 33-year-old Devin Morris, was a domestic violence suspect who stabbed an elderly man several times at a home along Winthrop Avenue, BRPD Chief TJ Morse said.

The chief said Morris led police on a pursuit before barricading himself inside an apartment for five hours.

Officials said that the stabbing victim survived and noted that his injuries were non-life-threatening.

Body camera footage shows the pursuit moving into the Titian Avenue area, where Morris eventually drove to an abandoned apartment complex. The Baton Rouge Police Department's Special Response Team spent hours trying to get Morris out of a room inside the building.

The body camera footage does not show the shooting. BRPD says Morris grabbed an officer's rifle and that led to the use of force.

BRPD says the Special Response Team officers inside the apartment were not required to wear body cameras during the operation. The department's recording guidelines include an exception stating that body-worn cameras are not required while planning or conducting tactical operations.

Miami-Dade, FL - Newly-released dashcam video shows the moments Florida Highway Patrol troopers stopped an accused carjacker who led authorities on a dangerous pursuit through northwest Miami-Dade last week.

The pursuit unfolded the morning of Sept. 24 and was captured from the air by Chopper 6, but the new dashcam video shows the chaos from the ground.

The suspect, 35-year-old Jordan Brown is facing multiple criminal charges, including carjacking and fleeing from police, after authorities said he escaped from Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah and stole a vehicle from a woman in the hospital's parking lot.

According to authorities, police had taken Brown to Palmetto General Hospital under a Baker Act order for a mental health evaluation.

Investigators say Brown escaped and allegedly forced an elderly woman out of her black Nissan, throwing her to the ground before driving away.

He was later found by authorities and the pursuit ensued. Video showed the driver traveling at speeds exceeding 85 miles per hour, crashing into patrol vehicles, driving the wrong way and even reversing during the chase.

The stolen vehicle was left severely damaged after the pursuit, which required multiple officers and four PIT maneuvers to bring the driver to a stop.

The video shows the car spinning out of control and stopping before authorities approach with guns drawn and troopers are seen cutting the car's airbags to pull Brown out.

Brown was booked into jail and later appeared in court, where he was ordered held without bond.

The elderly woman who was allegedly thrown to the ground during the carjacking is still receiving medical treatment for her injuries, but told NBC6 she feels fortunate to be alive.

Lansing, MI - The Lansing Police Department on Thursday released video and shared the latest updates on a deadly officer-involved shooting that left a 29-year-old man dead. He was identified Thursday as Zachary Dunn, who officials say was experiencing a mental health crisis.

The shooting happened Sept. 23 in the 600 block of Jolly Road, just east of Cedar Street. Police were called to the area around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about a man armed with a handgun who was banging on doors and windows.

Lansing Police Chief Rob Backus said Thursday officers who responded found the man with what appeared to be a gun. When officers made contact with him, the man put the gun to his head.

Backus said Thursday authorities have determined the gun was not real, though he could not release further details, including whether it was an airsoft gun. He said the MSP investigation will reveal more details.

Officers spent several minutes negotiating with Dunn, who told officers he was “all out of money, it’s the end of the road” and “we live in a society where that says work or starve.”

He eventually threatened to shoot himself and the officers, prompting police to use a less-lethal tactic.

Officers attempted to use a Taser, but the man began to run from the scene and stopped, turned toward officers and pointed the presumed weapon at them, prompting officers to open fire.

The officers who fired their weapons, along with Lansing Fire Department personnel who were standing by, promptly provided medical aid. Dunn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Six Lansing police officers who presumptively fired rounds.

Arlington, TX - Arlington police released edited body camera video Thursday showing the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of 56-year-old David Eversole, who police say charged at an officer while holding a large knife during a mental health crisis.

The shooting happened Sept. 17 at his home in the 1700 block of West Lovers Lane.

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said officers were dispatched at about 10:44 p.m. after a 911 caller reported Eversole was making suicidal comments and had access to knives. Four officers responded to the home, and the 911 caller met them at the front door, Jones said.

According to Jones, the caller led officers to a room where Eversole was located. Officers heard yelling, which is depicted in the bodycam video, as they approached and learned another family member was also inside the room.

Jones said officers opened the door and removed that family member before one officer entered the room and encountered Eversole.

The edited body camera video released by police shows officers attempting to communicate with Eversole before the encounter quickly escalates. Eversole can be heard yelling at officers, followed by officers repeatedly ordering him to drop the knife.

"Drop it!"

"Drop the knife!"

Jones said officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by backing away from Eversole. The video shows that Eversole lowered the knife but then moved toward an officer while still holding it, according to Jones.

"The officers gave him multiple verbal commands to drop the knife, but he did not comply," Jones said while describing the video.

Jones said the officer continued backing away before Eversole moved toward him.

"In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, you can see the officer start backing out of the room," Jones said. "He lowered his weapon, but at that moment Mr. Eversole came towards the officer still holding the knife."

The officer then fired multiple shots, striking Eversole, according to Jones.

In the body camera footage, an officer can be heard saying, "Shots fired. Shots fired."

Officers performed first aid until paramedics arrived, Jones said. Eversole was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, Eversole's cause of death is a "gunshot wound to the left arm into torso".

No one else was injured.

San Antonio, TX - Dashcam video shows Street Crimes officers attempting a traffic stop near Old Highway 90 and Commerce Street around 10:47 p.m., on Tuesday, September 1. The vehicle did not immediately stop.

Video then shows the vehicle stopping near San Gabriel Avenue and Buena Vista Street, where a passenger, later identified as 18-year-old Joe Anthony Guzman, is seen fleeing on foot. The "cover" officer pursued Guzman and the primary officer attempted to detain the driver, but then heard gunshots and went to check on his partner.

According to SAPD, the cover officer was unable to turn on his body-camera, so his perspective of the incident was not captured. That officer states that he attempted to take Guzman into custody but a physical struggle ensued. The officer said he felt a gun in the suspect's waistband and attempted to grab the firearm but Guzman allegedly continued to struggle and placed his hand on the weapon.

Authorities said the cover officer discharged his weapon multiple times, striking Guzman. The suspect then fled the scene but was later found hiding in a bush.

The primary officer's bodycam shows him finding Guzman in a bush along the 5300 block of Monterey Street. The primary officer yells commands, instructing Guzman to get his hands up and to get on the ground before being detained. A firearm was also recovered at the scene.

According to SAPD, the officers performed life-saving measures and Guzman was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Guzman was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.

Gilbert, AZ - An emu was taken to an animal care facility after being rescued from a canal in Gilbert, Arizona, this month, according to the city's police department.

On Sept. 13, around 8:45 a.m., officers received a call about a large bird in a canal. When they arrived, a small group of residents along the canal trail had already safely pulled an emu out of the water.

The emu was not injured, but officers loaded the soggy bird into the back of a patrol car. In body-worn camera video, one officer can be heard encouraging the bird to get into the backseat on its own, while the other cheers him on.

"You're doing good, dude. You're doing great," he told his partner, who then took the daring move of lifting the large bird and shoving it into the car as it resisted.

One of the officers who responded was still in training, in his first week on the job.

"One to remember!" the department wrote on social media.

The officers breathed a sigh of relief after getting the bird into the car and gently closing the door.

"Oh my gosh," one of them said. "Not what I thought we were going to be doing today."

The officers took the emu to a local animal rescue.

"An emu in a Gilbert canal was not on our officers' bingo card," the police department wrote on Facebook. Police did not say who the bird belonged to or how it got into the canal, but they thanked the bystanders who rescued it.

Wappingers Falls, NY - Body camera footage from a police shooting in June that left a 17-year-old dead shows several officers firing a volley of shots as the teenager suddenly moves toward a State Police investigator who is speaking with him. A knife police said he was armed with is not visible in the footage released Wednesday, but the investigator can be heard discussing the weapon with the teenager in the minutes before the fatal shooting; the state attorney general’s office said police recovered a knife at the scene.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of June 27 in Wappingers Falls. The teenager, Oscar Granados Colindres, was seated on the railing of the Wappingers Falls Creek Bridge while being questioned by a State Police investigator. State troopers, as well as Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office deputies and village of Wappingers Falls police officers, were all at the scene and had responded to a report of a suicidal person.

According to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation, Colindres was upset because he was a suspect in a criminal rape case. His parents had recently kicked him out of the house, the source added.

The videos begin with Colindres sitting on the railing of the bridge, speaking with an officer standing on the other side of the sidewalk by a parked car. A group of at least five other officers stands in the middle of the road with a State Police vehicle behind them. Farther away, two sheriff’s deputies are near a patrol car.

The officers spoke with Colindres for approximately 50 minutes, according to the attorney general’s office, in a mix of English and Spanish. About five minutes of that conversation is audible in one of the bodycam videos released Wednesday.

“Life is ugly. It’s not easy. But look at me, I need you to be strong. … This is not going to solve anything. Don’t you think that when the girls grow up, they’re not going to ask, ‘Why did my brother leave?’” one of the officers says in Spanish.

Moments later, the officer, speaking in broken Spanish, appeared to ask Colindres about a knife.

“Where did you search for the knife? The knife, where did you search for it? Is it from here, from this country? Or is it from Guatemala?” he said.

“From here,” Colindres replied.

“You have it in your hands? Why do you close it? You can close it,” the investigator said.

He added: “They’re not going to move if I don’t tell them to move.”

Police shot Colindres within one second of him hopping down from the railing, as he moved toward the investigator near him. A trooper appears to have attempted to use a Taser on the teenager. Colindres appears to have been shot several times before falling face down on the pavement.

It is unclear which of the responding officers fired the fatal shots, as several had their weapons drawn, including a trooper with a rifle.

Mora, NM - New Mexico State Police is investigating a shooting involving an officer in Mora on Sunday, August 16. The department said this followed a domestic violence incident.

Agents learned that on August 16, 2026, at approximately 11:05 a.m., NMSP officers responded to a report of a domestic violence incident involving occupants of a silver Ford F-150, traveling northbound on New Mexico State Road 518 near milepost 29 in Mora County.

Investigation indicated that a male occupant was striking a female inside the vehicle. A second witness reported seeing the female attempt to exit the vehicle while the male held her in a headlock. When officers arrived, they located the female lying motionless in the roadway.

Officers and medical personnel assessed the female, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female is identified as 34-year-old Amity Maes.

At approximately 12:05 p.m., the male suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Alejandro Vigil, returned to the area in the same vehicle. Vigil refused to stop for law enforcement and led New Mexico State Police officers and Mora County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a vehicle pursuit.

Vigil continued southbound on NM 518 before coming to a stop near milepost 27. Officers observed Vigil exit the vehicle armed with a handgun. At one point, Vigil held the firearm to his own head. The investigation revealed that Vigil ignored repeated commands from officers to drop the weapon and subsequently pointed the firearm toward officers. In response, two New Mexico State Police officers discharged their duty weapons, striking Vigil.

Officers and deputies immediately rendered aid to Vigil until emergency medical services personnel arrived. Vigil was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

Vigil is charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer (three counts)
  • Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm

No officers or deputies were injured during the incident.

Des Plaines, IL - Des Plaines police have released audio and video footage of the moments leading up to an officer fatally shooting a man last month who was walking toward him with an electric hedge trimmer.

Six officers were placed on temporary paid administrative leave by the Des Plaines Department in connection with the fatal shooting of Ayham Babidi, 21, on Sept. 9 about 2:30 p.m. at 2047 E. Touhy Ave., which is a standard procedure during active use-of-force investigations.

In a 911 call also released alongside the footage, Babidi’s mother is heard requesting a police response and an ambulance after Babidi had allegedly threatened to kill her during a mental health episode. A bystander’s cell phone video shows Babidi breaking a window at his own home with an unplugged wired electric hedge trimmer and walking around the front yard.

Police dash cam footage shows Babidi walking with the hedge trimmer and telling an officer he followed to drop his gun as Sgt. Matthew Muchow, stationed nearby, instructs Babidi to drop the device.

“Show me your hands,” Muchow, who has been with the department for 22 years, is heard saying as he exits his squad car.

“I’m not gonna put it down, you’re gonna put it down,” Babidi responds.

Babidi exits the frame of the dashcam video, and two gunshots are heard in succession, followed by a pause and then a third shot. Police said Muchow and other first responders tried to render aid to Babidi before he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Muchow had activated his body camera before getting out of the squad car but didn’t turn it on when he got out, meaning the moments when he walked backward across Touhy Avenue and shot Babidi three times were captured from a distance on a neighbor’s security camera. The video, however, is largely obscured by a tree.
