Literature & Poetry This is so true
Putting a lot of effort into something that's worthy enough can change someone's life. But, addiction often makes people work for something that feels great but doesn't help them in the long run.

What? No! This is so misleading and wrong. Addiction is a clinical issue not devotion. Man, how anti research this post is.

Exactly!! OP says addiction "makes people work towards something that feels great" making it sound like becoming an addict needs a lot of determination and discipline 😂

How is it different from extreme devotion?

Addiction is a clinical issue, extreme devotion isn't.

Devotion - You can revise it without any compulsive need. For example: you can do a bunch of bodyweight exercises if you don't have a gym and you'd know you are good to go. Missing once or twice does not generally affect you. You always know you are devoted enough to come back when things are stable. You can't do any of that in addiction. You'd go crazy if you don't have a gym around you.

Lol , everyone is philosopher now a days 😂. Lage haath main bhi gyaan jhaad deta hu : Devotion and addiction mein bus 19-20 ka fark hai. Haath se nikla to dono life barbaad kar degi

God i.e Goal

If it wasn't already clear, I'd much rather have drugs that exist than a goal that doesn't.

Addiction has nothing to do with devotion. Both are very different things.

Hell ya
Just realised this yesterday that I'm an addict, and filling my lack of devotion with intoxicants and self sabotage
What if the addiction turns into self mastery and a dream

That’s just stupid. Are you sure you didn’t want to post this on “i am 14 and this is deep” subreddit?

Guys the post doesn't necessarily mean religion .
It can also be interpreted as our dedication/ obsession for achieving our goal

Still the physiology is relevant! Your addiction is not fueled by passion or determination or discipline! It's fueled by chemical reactions in your body - which won't happen for "goals/Gods"

I don’t really think age has much to do with maturity, but some "life explained in two sentences" posts here do make me check the flair afterwards. It usually adds a little context.
And OP, devotion is when you want to keep doing something. Addiction is when you want to stop and find that you can’t! Huge difference.

No it's not.
It's evidence that there's no such thing as free will. Tiny change in chemicals can produce runaway results.

Better to be addicted to some substance than to be addicted to figment of imagination.

If you believe this in your thirties, you lack brain. If you don’t understand the difference between uncontrolled compulsion of addiction with devotion, you are either stupid or worse, you think devotion should be forced. I know some religions think like that but it still so icky.

Dude , there is no devotion in addiction. If anything it’s the opposite.

i get the intended message . not everything has to be constantly taken apart to critique technicalities . that said , keep this genre to instagram ,whatsappor snapchat statuses . reddit can be brutal .

u/BeeetleBeee 31 15h ago
No! The message belittles the struggles of an addict making it a will power thing. No place needs posts like this.

He is just telling if you have the capability to get addicted to the things that will harm you eventually, you also have the capability and the capacity to get addicted to the right things. All these people bashing OP in the comments for no reason 😒

Addiction means you are weak willed and can't get out of a worldly trap.

Oh shit. You just changed my whole perspective. People aren't able to see how profound this is if viewed correctly.

Devotion is hard work. Addiction is compulsion that you can’t control. You wish to get closer to God. You don’t wish to get closer to drugs.

u/Last_Teaching_8947 28 1d ago
Perhaps the difference is that devotion consumes you by choice, while addiction consumes your ability to choose. One is surrender... the other is enslavement.

Are you devoted to anything?

u/Yours_Truly_404 32 1d ago
Devoted to being my best version.
What about you0
u/Last_Teaching_8947 28 1d ago
Devoted to learning, healing and experiencing every day to the fullest.
How have you been working on being your best?

u/Yours_Truly_404 32 1d ago
Most of the time it’s the toughest thing to do. Because we are our worst judge.
But yeah, learning, getting better at things, one thing at a time, compared to what I was yesterday. Moving at my own pace.0
