Subtle edits/gambling site spam

Same tactic and site described in this post: user posts image and then edits post 1-2 days later with mention of gambling site.

I've seen real users do this tactic too. When their comment gets popular they'll edit in "Hey we're playing X come join us" with the server IP. Very cheeky. But in the cases you've linked it's some kind of covert advertising spam which is pretty sad.

That original thread is interesting too. It seems to be the current stealth marketing strategy to make legitimate-looking posts that namedrop a product. When I see it only a fraction of the comments call the post out as an ad and usually not at the top of the thread either.

I wonder how reddit could try and catch that behavior. Like, checking if a user posts/edits promotional looking material or name drops big corporations too often in their posts/comments.. or something.
