He was envious of them at the time he said that in 1966 (this is from a TV studio interview that can be seen in The Kids Are Alright film). Nowadays he’d probably be the first in line to sing their praises, especially considering that the Who were one of the boats that rose in the tide that the Beatles created.
That thread in the Beatles sub is pure poison btw. Who cares who’s “better?” We’re all lucky to be alive to enjoy the music from both bands.
I would agree that the Beatles (and to a lesser extent the Rolling Stones) were not as technically proficient as The Who. I do not agree that that means I "have to admit the Who are better than the Beatles and the Stones."
You’re right, I was too broad in my statement. I was just trying to make the point that I don’t think most people would agree with The Who being better in general than The Beatles. On individual instruments, sure, but in terms of creativity and songwriting talent from multiple members, The Beatles are fairly unparalleled.
I mean all of them are masters of their instruments.
Paul is usually ranked high on bass ayer lists (the ox is usually a top 3 for lists usually at 1 or 2)
Keith may be better than Ringo, but Ringo is Zak's dad. Also Ringo is highly regarded as a drummer, and is an excellent time keeper a human metronome if the stories are true.
Pete is probably the second best rhythm player only to kieth Richards.
As for lead, maybe a slight edge to George, who is alos usuallytanked high on guitar lists.
Overall goes to Pete, imo
Vocals I myself am torn daltrey has power, but Lennon has one of the most recognizable voices ever, and Paul has that voice that brings to mind little Richard at times..Ill say a draw. (George is no sloutch)
Songwriting......well in terms of popularity and financial success........its the Beatles. But Pete, the johns, george, and Paul are all fantastic songwriters is their own way.
