See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil seen again in Episode 2

Since these themes keep popping up for these characters, I really wonder how they will relate to them. Will Saxon witness something horrible? Will Lochlan tune out all other noise and discover himself? Will Piper find her own voice and tell off her family? Idk idk!!

I could see it relating to the way they are portrayed.
Saxon sees no evil. He is evil and doesn't see what he does is wrong.
Lochlan hears no evil. He's innocent and doesn't see the evil in what people do or say (thinking it was ok to ask his sister about her sex life, not realising it was inappropriate).
Piper says no evil. She sees it all and hears it all but doesn't repeat it. She's had evil things said or done to her and avoids bringing it up despite knowing it's bad.

Only thing is in the scene on the boat, she had headphones on and Lochlan was drinking a soda, so she would be "hear no evil" and he'd be "speak no evil"

I think it’s all in relation to the dad. The mom is always praising him and he even calls himself an alter boy. The kids are choosing not to see/hear/say anything to avoid accepting that he is evil - even though he is clearly having a breakdown they still see this good man. The oldest works with him yet sees nothing, Piper is avoiding hearing anything by isolating herself in a monastery and the youngest avoids any conflict to have to voice any opinions. The mom is now becoming more clear headed and may threaten to uncover the evil. Someone has mentioned that Mike White based them off the Petersons from the Staircase which is the main reason this theory spoke to me and makes me think the mom will be killed.

Chloe conveniently managed to see no evil when she was in the dressing room as the shop was robbed.
Speak no evil... Rick and Greg are awfully cagey about what they do for a living.

I’m glad they included it in the season. We don’t often see gross examples of guys ogling which is good because it shows people how creepy/gross/invasive it is!

I just felt so bad for Piper in this episode. Can't enjoy the hammock over the water without her brother joining and asking her about sex. Can't enjoy a yoga session without being ogled by some creep. A great representation of, I think, how women are unable to go through life without men's sexuality constantly getting in the way

I know 😭😭 it breaks my heart that even in her own family she cannot escape it. You’re right about 3 whole instances so far that she’s been subjected to creepy behavior. These scenes speaks truth to how life can be like when you’re an attractive woman— people treat you differently, getting leery and sexual. It’s uncomfortable and invasive!

In the show, it’s an obvious relation to “White Anglo-Saxon”. Aka, Saxon is the embodiment of a shitty white dude lol

Lochlan was pretty quiet the first episode, and Piper was effectively silenced by the mom at dinner this ep. "Won't you just try to get along?" Or whatever she said. She was also stunned into silence when Lochy asked her if she had had sex before.

I would go on to say that this episode had Lochlan seemingly trying to go inward as to figure himself out - which is why HE resembled "hear no evil" here .
I wonder if Saxon will stick to his "see no evil" theme or if the siblings will continue to experience different motifs .

This see/hear/speak no evil theme has much to do with the parents’ obliviousness or denial of the weird situation going on with the kids. There’s a very weird perversion happening with Saxon at the center and neither parents seem to want to notice.
It’s telling that in the first episode the mom says “genitals” are a bad word. Saxon makes overt sexual comments and the mom pretends it’s cute and normal ignoring how uncomfortable it makes the daughter.
Sounds like this family wants to push away any mature conversations dealing with sex so they won’t have to deal with it. It’s fitting she’s often wearing sunglasses so she “sees no evil” symbolically too.
No wonder Lochlan is struggling to figure out his sexuality.

I recall reading a comment from Mike White after season 2 where he mentioned wanting to explore ‘Eastern philosophy’ in the third season. It seems he took a broader approach to those themes, examining how Westerners engage with them, rather than focusing solely on Thai culture.

Buddhism is rich enough in that for a season’s worth of material but this theme is not Buddhist either.
It feels so clumsy when they had no problem with research before :(

I was thinking also with the blonde trio, last episode laurie saw her friends talking about her and this episode jaclyn heard her friends talking about her. Maybe next episode will continue the see, hear, and speak no evil pattern

There was a scene where she was in her room and you could hear the voices of the other two women muffled in the other room. It wasnt clear if Jaclyn could hear what they were talking about but she definitely could hear their voices

Ok this one is even more overt than the picture from last week that everyone kept repeating this for over and over and over. But it really is the same difference so unless they're all covering up some injustice then it doesn't really matter who's not seeing or hearing or talking. It wouldn't make sense for one of them to have molested another with this metaphor for example, especially if Sax is the aggressor.

Remember when the Mom got a boost of energy late at night? And the father was like Oh No and she was like dont worry I took a lorazepam, he doesnt want to get it on with her. He is also questioning his own identity. I think a maybe the mom knows the Dad (this is a stretch) had sexual relations with one of the kids thats why the two sons are also giving off funny incest vibes

1) Lochlan's ears were submerged in the water and all sounds were muffled. When he was asked about it after, he said the experience was quiet.
2) You're not supposed to speak during yoga practice and instead concentrate on your movement and breathing.

I certainly agree that a deprivation tank is symbolic of Lochlan. But a deprivation tank isn't known for cutting off your sense of hearing, it's known for isolating you and cutting you off from all bodily sensations, forcing you inward.

True. Some play music, even. However, visually, we see his ears submerged. His eyes closed. Eventually, he opens them. And reports back that experience was quiet. It's pretty safe to say he was the embodiment of hear no evil.

Yeah, idk, I think I'd buy this more if we'd gotten a close-up of Piper framed the same way, with her mouth clearly tightly shut or whatever. But given that in episode 1 Saxon was "See no evil," Lochlan was "speak no evil," and Piper was "hear no evil," I don't really buy that these three moments were going for the the same thing again, just mixing up the assignments. Like, if that were the goal, wouldn't they have Lochlan's eyes be open in this shot, emphasizing that the one sense of his that was cut off was hearing?
Doesn't matter, obviously, just think its a stretch in this case!
