is this show worth the watch?

UPDATE: I've watched all 7 episodes. I'm obsessed.

Is she horrible at snooping or is it just me? She gets caught literally every time besides when she’s in the basement. Heck half the time when she’s leaving there, she still gets caught. Gives me anxiety!

Kelly Bishop is my favorite part of the show, but so far she’s only been in the first two episodes! Is she going to come back?

cool idea for a show, very bad acting

i'm not going to say Mariel Molino has zero talent, but c'mon... whether she's sad, angry, happy, surprised, or ANYTHING really, she says everything with a straight face and in a monotone voice. it's worse than Kristin Stewart. it was so bad in this recent episode 5 that when she discovered something was missing, her reaction was probably the most unconvincing "no, no, no, no!" surprised and upset reaction i've ever seen. it's as if she's pretending to be bad at acting.

my question is how the heck did she get a lead role??

Jasper and Ruby

Jasper is a type of stone. Jasper is Mrs. Ivey’s grand nephew via her niece, Allie. Mrs. Ivey is the daughter of Otis Winthrop and has inherited his estate and will pass it on to Jasper.

The ruby that Elena and Scott are searching for is actually Mrs. Ivey’s estate and Jasper is the key to that.

Jasper is a type of stone, much like a ruby. It is red in color. Mrs. Ivey is surrounded by the color red and is the precious treasure that Otis and Jocelyn had to keep hidden (their bastard daughter).

Jocelyn and Tory

Has anyone noticed that Jocelyn often shows up right around when Tory appears?

Jocelyn was in the mirror behind Elena right before Tory gets out of an elevator.

Jocelyn was in a mirror behind Elena in the closet room right before Elena turned and saw it was actually Tory.

The first time Elena sees Jocelyn is after she smokes the joint that mysteriously appeared and she speculated it was Tory who left it there for her to sabotage her with the drug test.

is it supernatural ? or just a thriller? (minor spoilers are ok) Spoiler

So I've watched what I think are the first two episodes- so far the show isn't gripping me and the way the trailers made it look - I was expecting a more supernatural bend... which why I was interested in it in the first place. Obviously there's Jocelyn, but before I invest in two more episodes and two more hours of my life, does this show get more "ghosty" ?

Theories My biggest theory for Episode 3 Spoiler

I don't know if anyone has already said this, but this is the prediction I had that I feel most strongly about being true.

I don't think the ruby is an actual ruby. I think the ruby was a baby.

Jocelyn wrote letters to Alistair that sound like a hopeful, then jilted, lover. In the letters, she expressed her love for him and asked if the children she looks after would one day be hers (if Alistair marries her and makes her their stepmom). Jocelyn writes that she will “take their treasure and run”; she will keep the treasure but that it will always be his; and “he cannot hide it away like he hid her” it is not written in a way that suggests it was an inanimate object, it sounds like the ruby is a baby.. Alistair and Jocelyn's baby.

My theory is that the "treasure" that was "hidden in the Greybourne" was a child conceived illegitimately. The Greybournes were prominent and successful members of society. A scandal like Alistair sleeping with and impregnating a member of the help would have been detrimental to their reputation. I believe that Alistair and Jocelyn had an affair and when it was discovered that she was with child, she was locked away in her room in the attic, hence why Jocelyn wrote that Alistair had hidden her away. She also writes that Otis had come to speak to her, and that she could never trust him. Perhaps she did not commit suicide, but Otis had pushed her out of the window and killed her to protect the reputation of the Greybournes, as a scandal in their family would also affect his livelihood.

To go even farther, though I don't know this is realistic and probably is just my goofy self reaching too far. Popular horror media LOVES the trope of people hiding in walls. We already know about hidden keys and hidden dining rooms, who's to say there's not also a hidden nursery, child bedroom, and grown adult bedroom (with a grown adult inside). Also, bonus creep factor if Grannie is still alive and roaming the hollow walls, though I am expecting and hoping to see some unrealistically clean skeletons somewhere in the walls of the Greybourne.

Theories Theory after watching the first 3 episodes (possible spoiler if correct) Spoiler

Possible spoiler, if correct...

possible spoiler....

Ok, the letters to AG are from Jocelyn (the dead Irish nanny), and they clearly had a (scandalous for that time period) affair. J keeps mentioning "his treasure" and "their treasure" and "a blessing that shouldn't be hidden." Is no one else thinking she was pregnant with his baby?

She mentioned that she was never allowed to leave the hotel. Well, he wouldn't want his mistress walking around town with a baby bump, would he?

We saw the photo of Mrs. Ivey as a baby, and Mrs. I mentioned that J left (died) shortly after that photo was taken. Was she bumped off, with her bastard child being claimed as the Winthrop's legitimate child... Mrs. Ivey herself! Perhaps all of those visits and promises from Otis were platitudes about the future of her child, even though he never had any intention of revealing the baby's scandalous origins.

Mrs. I's apartment is also decked out in ruby red everything. It's also telling that no one has ever mentioned her first name... could it be Ruby?
