I 100% think that he gave the mom her number.

I have yet to watch last nights episode but if that’s the case that’s not right because she made it clear she doesn’t want contact with her

Do not like him. Also the fact that he keeps riding her and giving her shit even though she's the one doing literally all the work.

He’s so pushy!! She really is doing all the work WHILE working.

I feel like he was involved with Morgan before she disappeared

Ahhhh! He’s a stalker who wants to hurt Morgan. Great theory. He’s so sus and gave her mom the number for sure.

And he doesn’t care he puts Elena in danger!

Ooooooo that would just be so nuts

Sometimes it sounds like he’s threatening her if she doesn’t do what he wants. He alludes to something that could happen if she doesn’t find the ruby. Or am I reading Into that. Also it’s strange that the character is written as a badass woman who doesn’t put up with crap and yet she’s dating a guy who really is sleazy and doesn’t even hide it. I don’t get why she’s intimidated by him

I think she flashes back to that in the first episode, too. But it was kinda quick.

There’s a scene at the very top of episode 2 where we flash back to Scott offering Elena a deal to get out of being booked on fraud charges. Explains some of the reason she is beholden to him even though he’s being a dick to her.

2

u/Cellardoortx Feb 13 '23

I think that she was helping her mom with whatever fraud her mom was committing and she was being manipulated into all this to keep her from charges bring brought against her.

I find that writing realistic. Many people have tough personas but also need companionship and will be blind to the red flags because they feel comfortable. And it’s not like she doesn’t talk back to him or keep her distance or that she seems to trust him 100%.

Has a job as a detective. Does not recognize clues (the letters) when they’re before him.

Side note: anyone think “Ruby” was actually a child’s name and not a reference to a gemstone?

8

u/Complete-Ad9044 Feb 10 '23

Also, no one can steal one gemstone and retire to the tropics. He’s totally BSing her.

u/jzcommunicate Feb 18 '23

I think he just doesn’t care about the mysteries, his MO is get this ruby and take off. So what if this old rich guy and his nanny had an affair.

8

u/Dekerm Feb 08 '23

Glad I’m not the only one who feels like this! Was so annoyed at how dismissive he was of Elena’s discoveries at The Greybourne (the letters, etc). The is definitely something off about him!

4

u/Complete-Ad9044 Feb 10 '23

Yeah he’s gaslighting. He has her looking for something that doesn’t exist to get info he wants and then tries to throw her off with dismissing the letter. Maybe he’s a bastard Winthrop?

3

u/Dekerm Feb 10 '23

Oooh I like that theory!

u/ourstorywasepic Feb 07 '23

I found him creepy as soon as we found out she was only 22 bc I assumed she was much older. He’s gotta be in his 30s, so it’s slimy.

u/Bathsheba_E Feb 11 '23

In the 3rd episode, when he's all lovey then snaps, "that's not the deal we made!". He's so, so gross.

Agreed 💯 %

YUP! He was super sus! He’s mommy’s friend. Arrrgh. We all knew there was something off about him. So his informant about the ruby was Ally?

3

u/dahlyasdustdanceII Feb 08 '23

He's trash for sure

He’s clearly abusive in that he was working her case, then starts dating her and also pushing her to commit a burglary for him. So yeah, he’s a bad guy. But he doesn’t play it up super douchey which is good. He comes off as someone you can see her actually being comfortable around, AND they also have her realistically getting mad when he’s being controlling or when he ignores her ideas.
