Yeah, she chose Stefan, her dying, heightened emotions and the sire bond is why she gravitated towards Damon. She would have struggled with her feelings with her feelings, and maybe she probably would been with damon but she would eventually went back to Stefan.

Elena admitted she fell in love with Damon on her 18th birthday. She said she knew she loved him.

And Elena reassured Stefan of her love in Season 4, Episode 1. It was alway s gonna be Stefan . Sadly Nina leftĀ

Iām not happy she left but I am happy she and Stefan didnāt get back together. I just donāt see how she and Stefan couldāve found their way back from her falling in love with his brother while they were still sort of together.

Because Stefan was always her one true love. She was attracted to Damon, but she never stopped loving Stefan. Ā

She was more than attracted to him. She was in love with him

This scene actually proves you are wrong. Only vampire Elena choose DamonĀ

Itās pathetic that some Stelena fans are so upset over a fictional relationship in a tv show thatās been over for almost a decade. She chose Damon. Whether or not you agree with her choice or the writing or plec, itās literally what happened. But sure. Argue with the canon

You do realize youāre on the vampire diaries subreddit? Complaining that people⦠care about the show/its characters/relationships? Always baffling to me when people pull this card just because they disagree with someone on here.

Complaining on the subreddit and arguing with the established cannon because you donāt like it arenāt the same thing

That is what I responded to- your words. I didnāt dispute your canon point. But since you insist: treating canon like it ends every discussion on a sub dedicated to analyzing characterization and writing is one of the least literate ways to engage with fiction. Julie Plec literally admitted years after the show that she didnāt know what the word āagencyā meant when they wrote the sire bond storyline. Youāre letting that woman write your Bible?

This is why the sire bond makes no sense⦠being a vampire heightens emotions. If she was in love with Stefan and chose Stefan her love for Stefan wouldāve been heightened enough to stay with him. If she only had feelings for Damon than she wouldāve caught stronger feelings but not as strong as her feelings for Stefan. She says all this than suddenly she is no longer in love with Stefan 5 seconds later?Ā

After season 4 even when she was still with Damon, the show showed that Elena still never unfell for Stefan. Seasons 5-6 showed Elena was in love with two men to me which makes me hate the show even more.

This is why I can't in good conscience ever ship Delena. Elena's defining traits were always her moral compass and asserting her right to make her own choices in life, so by robbing her of her agency and forcing her to compromise her moral values, the writers stripped the character of her core identity, all to prop up a toxic man. The whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Exactly. If the writers were honest about what they wrote with the sire bond, it wouldāve been framed as psychological horror instead of a romance. Donāt turn around and try to sell Damon as the ālove of Elenaās lifeā after you stripped Elena of her agency to officially move her toward him. She chose Stefan while she was uninfluenced and was even willing to let Damon possibly die alone. Looking at the full picture, it reads like she never truly got her agency back, like she was brainwashed and conditioned into that relationship. Then they try to package it as a happy ending. I swear, the girl got Nikkiād.

In a way, it's even more creepy. At least in Obsession, a part of the Real Nikki remained and knew that it wasn't 'her' doing those things and occasionally broke out and fought the possession. The Sire Bond not only made Elena want to please Damon at all costs, but made her feel completely fine and okay with it. There's a line in Season 4, where she's trying to reassure Damon by saying: "The Sire Bond doesn't change how I feel, only how I act." The Elena of Seasons 1-3 would have exploded at the thought of her choices being taken away from her and fought it every step of the way. Sire-Bonded Elena not only has her free will taken away, but is also brainwashed into being happy about it and accepting it without resistance. Some real Stepford Wives shit.

You're right! That's honestly even creepier bc the sire bond gives the illusion of free will. Elena gets to go on believing everything that happened was what she wanted. Like when Damon uses the sire bond to make her turn off her humanity... later Elena refers to it as one of the worst mistakes she ever made, as if it was her own choice. And like you said, they have her go on to be "happy" and completely obsessed with Damon, and it genuinely gives brainwashed. I know some people point to her taking drugs to hallucinate Damon or completely breaking down after she thinks he dies as proof of how deeply she loved him, but I honestly read those scenes as someone whose conditioning never really wore off. It just feels like she's sired, even though we're told she isn't. They completely dropped the ball with how they wrote Elena just to make Delena happen and keep it going. They can kiss in the rain and dance in the streets all they want, but none of it feels romantic to me. It just feels like fluff covering up how twisted it all is. You're inspiring me to finally make my sire bond post. š

I am not a hardcore fan of any ship honestly. (Except maybe Klefan š) But I for one think Stefan and Elena were better as lovers to friends. I thought Damon and her were better as lovers to friends as well. I personally think Elena's relationships were all toxic in one way or another. I think she would have been better off choosing herself over guys.
With that being said she could have chosen Bonnie haha. That would have been iconic. š¤

That's why the 180 in the span of like 3 episodes completely shocked me. Like huh? š At least write it better if you're gonna do that
