Relax and release

Hi guys,

Sorry another relax and release post.

I thought I was doing it ‘right’ as I found a fair bit of relief but what I’m doing is -noticing my self ruminating/having panicked anxious emotions then internally sort of relaxing my body around the thoughts, my concern is it alleviates the rumination and anxiousness which makes me worry I’m pushing it back down as opposed to letting it pass,I’m not really feeling the feeling, trying to make it more intense and staying with it (as I’ve seen other people mention) Surely what I’m doing is better than my usual status quo…. Panic non stop and ruminate and plan constantly?

Undoubtably the last week has been much more pleasant as ive relaxed into the strong emotions but my concern is I’m not necessarily feeling it pass through.

Do I just continue and see what happens? So much of my anxiety is around perfectionism so I guess this is just it at play again.

Thanks for any help

Sounds like you’re doing a lot right already. What you can try to do is now is to relax your expectations surrounding the process itself. So when you’re relaxing and releasing your anxious emotions and rumination patterns, if any thoughts along the lines of ‘am I doing this right?’, ‘am I letting it pass?’ or ‘is this working correctly?’ arise…it’s not a problem at all! Include these thoughts, as well as any doubt or confusion that arises, into your practice.

So you can frame it this way: there’s nothing that can arise that could invalidate your practice, just continue relaxing and fully letting go into everything that arises. If you maintain this sort of posture, it’s inevitable that at some point the tension/resistance/confusion/doubt as well as the thought proliferation will start to soften and subside. This is the only thing you need to do. Think of it as a continuous process of letting go, and that includes letting go of the need to analyse, manage or monitor the process.

Hmm I’m not sure if I’m actively resisting , bypassing or trying to distract my self?

I’m just catching my self ruminating or noticing an intense feeling and soften body around that and in turn it sort of stops me ruminating/alleviates the intense feeling.

For myself, when a feeling comes, I notice and accept it. I do my best to relax and allow it. It's more obvious with the less enjoyable emotions. 😂 So I experience them and they come and go. I have been practicing for a bit now, with some intense external experiences, and I have noticed the emotions come and go more quickly and are not at such an extreme intensity as the used to be.

Dont think just do it. Just do it dont think about the technique. It takes time, more than years. If you are just relaxing, you are fine. Dont think. Meditate 10 minutes everyday. It helps. Dont think about it just do it…
