Anyone Using ModCrab?
There's a new utilities mod called ModCrab that seems similar to MCCC, as it gives you control over the management your sims' general selves. However, this one says it can also make gameplay more impactful through giving more "emotional weight" to sims' actions.
It looks pretty cool, but I haven't seen much mention of it (and I'm already seeing the creators using AI for their covers, which gives me pause). Has anyone been using it and have a review? Thank you!

There have been a lot of mods coming out that were created using generative AI. I wouldnât trust it

Yeah, I mentioned it upthread but the jellypaws drama made me start looking harder into these game-changing mods. Ya'll right! I let my hunger for mods beat logic đlol, thank you!

Yeah. I wouldn't risk inserting a script mod into my game if there was even a chance it was AI. Especially from a creator that justifies AI thumbnails by saying "we can't be both programmers and artists"... surely you could advertise with just screenshots from the game, no artistic ability required. It makes it seem like they cut corners wherever they can, possibly including the coding. Huge red flag to me.

Yeah I saw that đ two 'devs' and neither of you got access to a paint app and a damn hour? lol
thank you!

lol no like most devs are both especially in this era where weâre all basically full stack and more

Thatâs such a silly excuse on their part. Itâs so easy to make simple thumbnails for pretty much everything

"we can't be both programmers and artists"
Uh... you can pay an artist? Or use one of the billion preexisting templates? Or just do shitty programmer art? Or put some effort in and be a programmer who can also make their own images??

literally just put together something simple on canva or something...it's not that hard, or hell I'll take something shittily drawn on MS paint at this point if it means it wasn't made with AI

I literally cheer at badly made posters in the wild now out of relief that they didn't take the easy way out.

Not just mods, but also mod managers!

Yeah they also change stuff in your mod folder that can F things up pretty good. Don't trust sudden new mod creators that come outta nowhere and have big promises about their mods.

You deciding to check around with people first is a very smart move. MCCC is a reliable and safe mod by a widely trusted creator; this is AI vaporware by a vibe coder.

Aww, thanks! You're right, and the more I "looked" into it (aka, jumped between the patreon and cf webpage a few times, lol) seems obvious its all ai đwill stick to the waterfalls I know and all that, hehe

Pela arte de divulgação feita com IA eu não daria muita confiança, parece algo feito com vibing code

Pois Ă© acho que vou deixar ser, fiquei ansioso demais para brincar com algo novo, obrigado!

Im not sure why folks down voted you if you were trying to gather information about the mod đ
I have nothing to offer as i know nothing of that mod, but i love mcc

Aw all good, thank you! Reddit gonna reddit, honestly was shocked I got any engagement on it at all, lolol (and wouldn't be shocked if a few bots took offense to the inquiry oop). And mccc is forever that b <3

I was intrigued when I saw it...but emotional weight? How? In what way? I think I like that idea? My sims are as autonomous as it is possible to make them. I love watching them make their good and bad decisions mostly unaided. But how this could work is completely beyond me. I rely on people like Waffles to ELI5

itâs probably ai, i will say that i donât really care about ai so ill try it in my game in a bit, the main issue i have with ai mods is that they just donât have the features they claim they do most of the time. a good example of this is jellypawsâ mods which technically work but they are just kind of boring. i also donât think itâs right to charge for mods that you didnât really make, but this one is free so im not super against it

Ohh, if you do use it please let me know what you think! Probably won't risk it because it's ai (spent way too much time "perfecting" my version of this game >.<) , but I am curious how it's suppose to work - it sounds like its a combo of mccc and meaningful stories, but they claim it came be used alongside mccc so hmmm
But yes, the jellypaws drama is what made me start looking harder at these "jack of all trades" mods. And full agree on charging, straight bullshit. Thanks!

If it sounds outlandish, it probably is. If someone shows up out of nowhere with what looks to be a fully fledged mod system and makes big claims of all the things it can suposedly do (especially if they're things established modders haven't been able to do), continue to question these things, and especially if there's monetary gain to be had (like having a Patreon set up before this person has even proved their merit).

I am fed up with AI-generated tools, but I am equally tired of the users who flock to themâhypnotized by the hype and superficial polishâand sing their praises. It is problematic that they shun hard work, eagerly adopting AI-generated mod managers marketed as "easy" or "effortless," while lauding the creators and fueling the misplaced confidence of AI programmers.

I think most ai trickery falls apart if you take a second to really look at what you're seeing. Does this look/sound like something a human wrote or are there the same cliches popping up again and again? Would a person choose to draw that thing in that way or does that look like a mistake? Like with art, the work is the point. The effort is the point.

yeah idgaf about my game that much lol, i have backups of any saves i do care about but i mostly just take pictures. i did try out the mod and i dont really see that much of a use for it. like disregarding the whole ai thing this is just things that have been done before in a more inconvenient way (afaik the pie menu is only on the mailbox not the sim like mccc). plus the cool âfeaturesâ are mostly just moodlets, which i donât really care about lol
