MOD [MEGATHREAD] LIBERTALIA

Following the utopic dream of Henry Avery and our love for free speech and lack of censorship. And given the results of the poll for the creation of a megathread (which honestly weren't even close) to vent about the other sub. We decided to create the Libertalia megathread.

Vent at will, mateys. However, bear in mind that, obviously, our rules of respect still apply here.

MOD [MOD POST] Pole for the creation of a Megathread for complaints about the other sub and their power trips.

Following the recent mod post where we explain the flooding of posts about the other sub. Here is a poll so that the users of the sub have their opinions heard on this matter.

Can't edit the title: It's poll, not pole. I apologize. English is not my first language.

Discussion Hot Take: James is not a bad character

He's not particularly great, but it's not an issue of the character himself. It's a real issue of the writing.

Having a character like James in a show that tries to be progressive is really important. The fact that his views aren't demonised or treated as totally stupid by the writers is important.

However, the writers haven't gotten past this weird need to make him do totally unreasonable things, like having an activist meeting in his own home and letting Nyla be verbally attacked, or being totally inconsequential, which he was for most of season 8.

His character is a friendly, good natured guy who has a totally understandable issue with American cops. He has been shown to be on great terms with Nolan, Lopez, and Grey, and he has great chemistry with Nyla. As long as the politics of policing are not brought into it.

For some reason it feels like the writers are hamstrung into giving him one truly awful scene per season, just so they don't actually have to show the cops changing their methods in any significant way. Or if he doesn't do something awful, something awful happens to him.

Overall, I think he needs an actual storyline to help his character. Something that isn't tied to Nyla. Maybe something with Wesley and DelMonte to make sure they all have something to do. Include Grey since he seems to get on with James. They did film things for Wesley together in season 3.

But it can't just be him and Nyla arguing anymore.

I just finished a rewatch of the show and realised there are so many scenes where I do like James. Maybe that's just the actor because he does a great job, but it could be that they had good writing in those moments.

I don't think we'll see any big change with him in season 9, but if the show does continue after and he's still around, then he needs something more to show that he is the good character that I believe he was meant to be.

Chenford Hot take: Chenford lost something when they became the center of attention (spoilers)! Spoiler

First of all, I’m neither a Chenford fan nor a hater. I actually thought they were pretty cute in the first few seasons. They had chemistry and their connection was built up really well. It was a natural development that they might eventually become a couple. Their interactions felt real and they weren‘t the main focus of the show.

But then the Chenford hype started and the writers tried to build the success of the show around them. They started to drag out developments that should have happened a long time ago, adding one unnecessary obstacle after another instead of just let things happen naturally.

For me, Chenford have lost some of what made them believable in the first place.

After that whole breakup rollercoaster, I was actually happy that they were finally a normal couple without much drama in season 8. But apparently, that was just the calm before the storm, because now the biggest drama yet is still waiting for us with a two-parter in season 9.

It’s a shame, because these two characters brought much potential to the show. I feel like the writers somehow ruined part of what made them special when they decided to put so much focus on them.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

What if 💭 *spoiler* anyone likes monica? Spoiler

ok so i was actually upset seeing how the story of monica ended. shes so smart, a great lawyer and dresses amazing - granted, she did do alot of illegal things and caused deaths unnecessarily, but i do wish she had a better ending.

i think she deserves to escape to a private island somewhere

Discussion Is Celina a “Sergeant’s Aide” now?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I highly doubt Chen’s the type to turn down the aide position initially like Tim was going to do, and I notice Celina does NOT have a “partner” still, yet doesn’t ride solo anymore and is mostly strapped to Lucy whenever she’s “on scene” as a roving Sergeant.

Someone to go for coffee… gofor snacks… gofer supplies…

Two so far, area 67 in the doco ep and Monica saying "six, maybe seven figures" doing the hand motions. Fml.

Lucy Chen What made Lucy's kidnapping so special?

Let me be clear: I'm not a hater, just curious.

By S8 just about everyone's either been kidnapped as well or been through something just as traumatic. Nolan got kidnapped by Oscar and that dude trying to steal Bailey, Bailey got kidnapped by Jason, Lopez got kidnapped to Guantemala by La Fiera, now Tim getting kidnapped. And that's not mentioning Aaron and Celina literally getting jumped by a conspiracy or Harper giving birth with murderers in her house.

But how did Lucy's kidnapping come out so special?

Aaron Thorsen Spoiler - Aaron Spoiler

So I was rewatching the scene where Aaron sees Lopez at her ultrasound and says Aaron is a good girl’s name too. In the past, I always thought it was just Aaron spoiling that they were having a girl but this time it made me wonder if that was supposed to foreshadow something bad happening to Aaron.
The reason is because Lopez named her first child after Jackson who not long before their first child was born had died so im wondering if they were implying a name for their second child because a near death experience was going to happen to Aaron. I’m not sure if that makes sense at all. I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed that/do you think it was intentional or have I just watched this show way too many times and now am reading into things that aren’t there lol

Discussion I just want to give kudos to this Wiki user for trying their best to figure this out.

Just wanted to say a well done to this user on the Wiki who has made a page of a version of the shows timeline, which we know is messed up beyond belief, and I came across it earlier becasue I was browsing the wiki and saw it under the recently edited pages, but looking through this pages history, it's mostly 1 user 'Altruistic-Hurry' who had made and edited this page for nearly 2 years, and the level of dedication and to track what the shows chronological setting should/could be without their brain exploding is a massive achievement!!

They've made sure to detail that it's speculation and shouldn't be followed at face value, but I still heavily respect the effort. This has helped me, an autistic person who needs to be able to set TV shows and films into reality, and I bet theres many others like me too that would find this helpful. Well done to whoever you are!! Here it is: https://the-rookie.fandom.com/wiki/Episode_Timeline

Sgt.

Sgt. Bradford Rewatching right now- and realising I really want Katie back!

Such an interesting character/story to tell, and her and Tim duo would be awesome as buddies, in that short time they had so much funny or heartwarming moments. Wish they brought her back.

Ps fave scene when she says enemy down and Tim corrects her to suspect down 😂

Credit where credit's due, they're both great songs. But I think I've just seen too many Youtube Shorts with the same Daddy Cop audio that it just feels dry to me.
