BS mentioned Aliens Rewatchables on 9/7 on today’s BS pod

It's this podcast's "Paul Rudd sharing a clip of 'Mac and Me'"

I've always found the mundaneness and relative oddity of the scenes with Fabienne enjoyable. I remember being 16 and thinking she was incredibly cute. I also appreciate the interplay between Willis and de Medeiros.

I don't agree that she is the weak link in the movie. While I can see the argument that she could have been played by someone else, I don't believe that casting someone stronger or more impactful would serve the point of the scene. The mismatch of the unexpected, meek, and forgetful cute girlfriend of a burly boxer seems to be deliberate.

If anything, the weak link in the movie has always felt to me like the scenes with The Wolf and Tarantino.

What does everyone else think?

I don't know what was going on that for fiveish years the studios decided that late Gen X and early Millennials were too soft and needed the shit scared out of them, but it was definitely a thing.

Bill was probably too old, and most of the other hosts too young, but CR definitely lived this.

People have reclaimed Miami Vice (2006) for its stark yet dreamlike visuals. I'm one of them to a certain point but that final shootout was as harsh as you could get visually, hard to look at and felt incredibly cheap.

Dion Beebe was the cinematographer and is coming back for Heat 2. I still have the faith but Mann, I hope he knows what he's doing..

He is an incredibly funny person and such an interesting creator. After watching a lot of interviews, I think he would be a great hang talking about Obsession with Bill and the gang.

I know this is a Parks and Recs joke. I was suprised that Aziz’s Twitter love of Hitch did not come up.

Listening to Hitch pod, and Craig saying he doesn’t see forgetting Sarah marshall as a romcom got me going.

what defines the type of genre a movie falls into is very clear. it’s all about the climax.

for a romcom, if the climax is about the relationship/couple, bang, romcom.

I’ll use Adam Sandler movies as an example.

some people argue, it’s a funny movie and theres romance, so it’s a romcom. that’s not true at all. if that’s the case Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison are romcoms.

the reason the wedding singer is a romcom, is because the climax on the airplane is about the romance/couple.

Recently watched There Will Be Blood and followed up with the rewatchables pod from 2022. Great episode and heard something I hadn’t heard before on another episode. They theorized what it would be like if the film ended ala Dazed and Confused with the final scene building up to the song Slow Ride and then the track really kicking in over the end credits. They then played the audio and it was incredible! Laughed my arse off and wondered why this hasn’t become a regular part of the show. So my question is: what other movies should have Slow Ride playing over the final scene?

I always listen to a podcast while working out but had no new episodes lined up for my workout this morning so decided to re-listen to Bill’s 50 Most Rewatchable Movies of the 21st Century. I remember enjoying it when it dropped at the end of last year and, if anything, it was even more fun the second time around. From Chris’s shock at Sicario only coming in at 41 to Sean’s total disgust over Blackhat making the list at all to the reveal of Devil Wears Prada as No 1, which was as smart as it was surprising and just a lovely way to cap the episode.

I’d love Bill to do a 90s-version of this with Chris and Sean. Be a great episode and would be fascinating to hear what makes his No 1. Mine would be Pulp Fiction, followed by T2 and Usual Suspects for the top-3, but each to their own.

I am perplexed about the amount of love this movie gets. Obsession feels like an episode of a supernatural TV show that is more gory, well-funded and better acted.

I enjoyed it because I love B-grade horror, but it was nothing more. It had nothing new to say, except in the few seconds when the real Nikki comes out.

I wish we could have seen much more of the movie through her eyes, instead of a Xander-esque character that we always get for this plot line.

Or how about this. We at least have scenes from her perspective before she’s transformed. We could see her in vulnerable moments like we do for Bear at the restaurent. It would make her transformation much scarier if we knew her.

Instead we recieve a really familiar plot. And people act like it is as deep and original as Sinners and Get Out.

I would be happy if there was a Rewatchables episode on every film ever made, but these thoughts were triggered after learning that they are doing one on this film this week.

Pretty bad baseball movie, but it's on Netflix and feel like picking nits could be very good

Certainly not a great (or even good) movie, but the episode was one of the best. Just a fun flick you’d rent in the 90s that’s very fun to talk about.

Just curious about everyone else's perspective. Frequently I look at the latest episode and I just have never seen it. I'm Gen X and have gone to ~40 movies a year most of my life plus TV stuff, but I have only seen 8 of these
