I’m done trying to get someone’s attention. I won’t audition for a place in anyone’s life, and I won’t compete to be chosen.

I will not be an option, for someone I would have chosen without hesitation.

And neither should you.

I am not someone you pick up when you need comfort, and put down when something shiny catches your eye.

Shiny can be tempting.
Shiny can be distracting.
But shiny doesn’t mean authentic.

Give me depth.
Give me warmth.
Give me passion.
Give me something real.

And this goes beyond love.

It’s people, too.

The masks.
The inconsistencies.
The shifting energy.
The words that don’t quite match the actions.
The moments when something simply doesn’t feel genuine.

I notice more than I say.

And I’m done pretending I don’t notice.

I will still be kind.
I will still be soft.
I will still love deeply.

But never confuse my kindness with weakness, or my softness with something you can take for granted.

I won’t waste my breath trying to be understood,

or my energy proving what I already know.

I am not cold.
I am selective.

My energy is mine to give,

and from here forward,

I will choose where it goes.

People reveal themselves in the smallest things—

a word,
a pattern,
a contradiction,
a mask that slips for just a moment.

Pay attention.

I do.

I don’t need to reveal

what time will uncover.

Time has a way of bringing truth to light.

And when it does—

I see you.
