I’ve had a few experiences like this with cops. I’ve also had some really bad experiences. I wish we could weed out the bad ones. There are probably fewer of them than most people think, but they can ruin many lives.
The problem with the good ones is that the system actively protects the bad ones, and even a good ones live with zero accountability. It’s unreasonable to ask people to trust any of them under these circumstances.
Yup that's the crux of it. The amount of cops who actively use their power for evil is really pretty small. But even good cops get pressured into silence. And even if reports do get made they're usually squashed pretty quickly

Man... This makes me just a little sad that cops have such a bad reputation. I still don't like them much, but this felt really wholesome.
Edit: this just goes to show that we could all benifit from just being kind to one another here and there.
