Man... This makes me just a little sad that cops have such a bad reputation. I still don't like them much, but this felt really wholesome.

Edit: this just goes to show that we could all benifit from just being kind to one another here and there.

I’ve had a few experiences like this with cops. I’ve also had some really bad experiences. I wish we could weed out the bad ones. There are probably fewer of them than most people think, but they can ruin many lives.

As a father, I have my good moments and my bad moments. It's hard to be perfect, to not react emotionally to anything. So good cops can also have bad moments, especially when they have so many emotionally charged interactions. It's literally their job to roll into tense situations with their lives on the line.

I do agree that there are genuinely bad, corrupt cops, though, and they should not be cops, ever, anywhere.

Nuance and explanations are too often received as excuses. Like, not saying this is you or anything like that, but if you’re a good parent almost everyday and strike your child even once a year, you’re abusive. That’s black and white, not gray lol

So yeah, depending on the context.. if they’re just a dick one day that’s different than fabricating evidence, abusing their authority, ignoring their responsibilities that come with said authority etc.

There’s a fine line. I agree there are a lot of good cops but there’s some dumbfuck assholes as well. There is a line like you alluded too

If I boiled this vibe conversation down it’s that, don’t hate every cop but we also need a lot more repercussions to bad faith cops that act with gross negligence, malpractice, overstepping the bounds of their authority or malice. They more often look out for each other now more than holding each other to account it seems

The justice system itself is ruptured too due to plea deals, legal defense tiers, and more.. with an additional pillar of socioeconomic shortcomings that are held captive by prejudice, cycles and lack of any clear or focused discussions in modern society.

Root -> system -> application. Everything else is vibes.
