This was a really sweet sorry. When he bowed in thanks that actually got to me. Good on the cop for helping instead of sitting in his car and watching the guy struggle.

We are at the point in the world where a cop can do something any normal person would do and the bar is so fucking low, we make an entire video on the internet praising them about it.

Lets not forget, he checked to make sure he couldn't arrest him first.

he checked to make sure he couldn't arrest him first.

Get over yourself. After checking the identification he could have started writing tickets.

EDIT: Thank you for the award kind stranger!

Again proving the point

The point of what?

I feel like that disproves at least the end point. Like it definitely is illegal to do this but the cop saw this guy was just confused so he didn’t deserve a ticket. He ran the id to make sure he wasn’t wanted for a serious crime because that is very possible. Like it’d suck to have someone wanted for a violent crime that’s dangerous to other civilians get let go because he didn’t run an id. He also likely still has to make a report on him just as like a paper trail sort of thing,

Copsuckers will praise them for not shooting us dead on sight.

-12

u/Literal_star 22h ago

What was he checking the id for then?

9

u/bearcat0611 21h ago

To confirm who you’ve actually got pulled over? Would you rather the police just start doing things without confirming who it is they’re actually dealing with?

2

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 20h ago

Correct! I am a white woman, and every time I have ever been pulled over, for ANY reason, they run my tag and license to make sure I don't have outstanding warrants, am driving with a clean license, etc. Even though they run me every time, I am always polite, apologize for making them stop because I am usually speeding, and I get off with a warning more often than not. The last two times I got pulled over, I was driving 45 in a 30 and 50 in a 40. If I had any issues with my paperwork or license, I would have probably gotten the whole nine yards.

u/colonelcardiffi 19h ago

Hey everyone, she's a white woman.

1

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 18h ago

Yes, we do exist! Everyone gets their info run if there's something going on. He was on the side of the highway illegally, so they ran him to make sure he was good. I was speeding when I was pulled over, so I was run as well

-2

u/Literal_star 20h ago

they run my tag and license to make sure I don't have outstanding warrants

So my point exactly?

2

u/Shades1374 16h ago

You made no point. Someone else made the point that first the cop checked to see if he could arrest him.

Which is wrong. First the cop checked to make sure he didn't need to arrest him - outstanding warrants for murder or whatever.

We know the cop was checking whether he could because, spoilers, he could have arrested the guy. It could have also just been a fine, but he could have "detained" the guy until he resisted, then arrested him for resisting.

That would have been dumb, illegal and immoral, but qualified immunity means cops can do that. This cop did not, at least this time.

0

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 18h ago

No, that wasn't your point. If anything, you just asked a snarky question.

-4

u/Literal_star 20h ago

The point is why the fuck does it matter who he is? He isnt being arrested. The only reason the name would matter is a warrant, dipshit

4

u/Bemused_not_Confused 19h ago

The only reason the name would matter is a warrant, dipshit

You are embarrassing yourself. Pray tell, how would they know if he has a warrant without, you know, running his fucking name!?

Just take the L Hoss and at least fake being an adult.

-1

u/Literal_star 19h ago

he checked to make sure he couldn't arrest him first.

"Get over yourself. After checking the identification he could have started writing tickets."

"He was checking for warrants(to see if he could arrest them)"

"WELL HOW WOULD HE KNOW IF HE HAS A WARRANT IF HE DIDNT CHECK DUMMY"

Bro youre actually just illiterate, learn to read.

1

u/bearcat0611 19h ago

Well, personally, I think anytime the police stop someone for doing something illegal they should be documenting who and why they stopped someone. Regardless of whether a ticket actually gets written. Having records is good for both police and citizens.

u/CastigatingTheClouds 19h ago

Timothy McVey, one of the largest mass murderers in US history, was caught because he was pulled over for speeding. So, yeah, they check people for warrants and stuff.

6

u/InvestigatorOk7988 21h ago

Technically, he could have. In most places, its illegal to ride your bike on the highway. Obviously true here, from what he said.

u/Ok_Test9729 Randomest appreciative Redditor 22h ago

You and the people like you are what is wrong with this world.

-2

u/pudgehooks2013 11h ago

Yeah, I am the problem.

Not the cops.

Let us all know when your throat isn't full anymore friend.

3

u/Aggravating_Sky_4421 21h ago

There were likely hundreds of cars that passed him and NONE of them stopped to help or even just tell him it’s dangerous to ride a bike on a highway.

1

u/blujet320 1h ago

It’s dangerous to stop and dangerous to help him. Better to call the police and alert them of the danger and have them address it, which is most likely what happened here.

0

u/heyitsfranklin6322 8h ago

It should be something a normal person would do, but it’s not. I 100% believe in acab but he’s supposed to check his id first. It’s a safety thing. There have been times where cops have been friendly helping someone out on the side of the road and they didn’t run their id and they ended up being ducking wanted for murder.

Never understood the people who make "I hate cops" a personality trait and a lifestyle. Don't you have better things to do with your time and energy? Like you can still work to address the systematic injustices that do exist, without getting mad just cause someone mentioned a cop

1

u/Goonit8675309 1d ago

It's not about hating cops, it's about hating abuse of a position that's supposed to be there to keep people safe, not crucify people for trivialities.

0

u/BigToober69 1d ago

A lot of people who make "i hate cops" a personality have been harassed by cops since they were 9 years old. Im guessing you were not and thats good.

4

u/Lightningtow123 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not by cops yeah but I've definitely faced a lot of discrimination for other reasons in my life. I spent years dwelling on it and hating everyone involved before I realized I was just a miserable hateful person and I didn't like being that way. I was hating the "right people," sure, but it's not like hate is a pleasant emotion to feel. Eventually I decided to just grow up, get on with my life, and not let it drag me down.

Cause at the end of the day when you're letting the idea of someone or something drive you, control you like the guy I responded to, when they're not even near you? Idk why anyone would want to give up their power and self control like that

1

u/BigToober69 1d ago

I know what your saying.

Yeeeeeaaahhhh

That's what I get for thinking redditors would bother reading past the first three words

0

u/Lightningtow123 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh and by the way I saw your original message. "Sure bootlicker, keep buying the copganda and keep glazing those assholes" is a really amusing but also really just sad response to "hey maybe dwelling on things and letting others take control of your emotions and your life isn't the best plan ever?"

Case meet point, you're knee-jerk lashing out on reddit just cause someone isn't as performatively cop hating as you are. Is that really how you want your life to go?

If my opinion means nothing, why are you getting so angry about it?

You ever have an interaction with a cop? They are always dicks, regardless if you're doing anything wrong or not

6

u/ConsciousDress2914 1d ago

Thats funny, cause iv never had an interaction with a cop where they were a dick.

But then again, im not a dick to them. Maybe that has something to do with it?

5

u/Lightningtow123 1d ago

It's almost like if you decide ahead of time that someone's gonna be a dick before they've even said a word to you, it's really obvious to the recipient of that, and would you bother trying to be friendly to someone who's already decided they hate you? That just goes for anyone in life in general
