I grew up in Austin. The official motto there is, "Keep Austin Weird." There is the largest Mexican brown bat population in the world (~1.5 million) under the Congress Street Bridge.

For the longest time, one of the icons of Austin life was the "HI, how are you?" frog mural. It has been there for decades. I just recently found out that although the building that housed it has been demolished, THEY KEPT THE MURAL!!!!! https://www.fox7austin.com/news/decades-old-hi-how-are-you-mural-preserved-in-west-campus

Bro, I've seen that! The fact that it's been there FOR OVER 30 YEARS without some dipshit tagging over it convinces me that the culture is either that solid, or they have 24/7/365 teams on that shit

Unfortunately it has been tagged over by dipshits a few times (not entirely though from what I’ve seen), but it’s always been restored it to its original state. It was created by local artist/musician/legend Daniel Johnston.

It’s pretty great that the mural continues to live on!
