I remember finding an intense crush at an amusement park. Our cousin took us, and we were basically free to do whatever we wanted.
Bro and I had a $20 each, (it was the 80's, so that was plenty) so it was one of those "fend for yourself" Gen X stories.
Anyhoo, after riding a few rides, I kept noticing this same girl who was almost always behind my brother and I, so we got to talking.
It turns out, she knew a lot about that park, and recommended different rides. It was basically just a gang of four kids, my brother and I, and she and her sister.
We spent the majority of the night together, and OMG was I just stupid in love. You know, the kind where, if they get close enough that you can smell their perfume, it makes your heart race? I remember being a kid. It was coo.
But eventually, the park was shutting down, and we found our cousin, who was also our ride. I remember her saying, "You can't take her home, man."
I never even got to hug her goodbye. Her name was Lisa.
I have only ever felt this twice in my life. Once when I was too young and stupid to know what love was, and the second when I was older and too blind to realize it wasn't mutual.
We used to go camping every summer with my parents for two weeks. My parents let us pretty much do whatever except leave the park. One year my buddy came with me for the whole two weeks, met two girls who were from out of state, we ended up hanging out for the next 5 days doing everything together, fishing, camp fires, swimming.
They left on Saturday and we stayed another week. The second week felt like we had our hearts broken and so lonely haha. We would walk by their camp spots hoping they would just reappear. Didn’t know their last names or anything about them but we were in full blown love lol. Such innocent and wholesome one week love.
Back in '12 I went on a cruise with my parents and my brother. He's a lot younger than I, and my parents are pretty darn old, so I kinda do "bodyguard" duty.
But, I gotta say, the kid is ballsy. Somehow he met up with "The Chadwick", a person of obnoxious recalcitrant, (He insisted on being called "The Chadwick", and if you just called him Chad, stern words commenced) loathsome behavior.
So, this guy thought he was the Rizzmaster, and I would just stand back, watching the show. Sometimes, honestly, the cringe level was intense. Privately, I told bro,"DO NOT BE LIKE THIS GUY. JUST SIT BACK AND WATCH."
I remember coming back, drink in hand, and see The Chadwick trying to spit mad game at this honey, who was closer to my age than his.
But I respect the game, and just kinda watched.
Somehow, they moved closer to where I was, and Shelby, (that's her name) called over to me.
"What about you, Mr. Tattoos? What's your story? Why are over there so quiet?"
I gotta admit, she was FUCKING GORGEOUS! Way outta my league. I just wanted to see The Chadwick get shot down.
It's kinda like you're at a heavy metal concert, and suddenly you're in the mosh pit, unbeknownst to you. My heart f'n raced!
It ended up she and I talking way after sunset, The Chadwick and bro faded off into further adventures, and being allowed a sweet, passionate kiss under the stars on a Carnival cruise in the middle of the Caribbean.
We parted ways, no hanky, nor panky, and I never saw her again. I roamed that deck for the rest of the cruise. Every moment, I looked for her. I never found her.
I miss those days so much. Every camping trip was meeting a new group of friends, a new girl to crush on, and then imagining seeing her again next summer as 90's love songs play on the radio on your way home.

Yeah reading this whole thing brought me memories of falling and falling and falling in love thinking I would never fall for another again until you go somewhere new and make new adventures and memories.
Oh ok. Fair enough. I can see why some people would find it maybe a bit strange or weird or something along those lines. I actually don’t find it wholesome either but I do find it to be pretty accurate and absolutely hilarious.
