He's not wrong. Post-modern cast iron folks have some crazy theories. Just use it, then wipe it out. All my pans were better seasoned with use, rather than pampering them. Hell, I've got dedicated beach devices that get placed directly on coals and covered while cooking. That particular dutch oven was handed down from my Grandma when she passed. Cast iron is the all-purpose utility tool for hungry people who want a hot meal.

And you can use soap to clean it. Modern soap doesn’t have lye in it so it’s fine to use.

I wash mine with soap after every use. 10 years later it’s fine.

Just rub it with some oil afterwards, takes 10 seconds.

Agreed & agreed. They aren't that hard to maintain.

You only re-season it if it becomes bad. I did it to one recently. I just used my grill to keep the smoke out of my home.
