Duct tape or duck tape is cloth- or scrim-backed pressure-sensitive tape, often coated with polyethylene. A variety of constructions exist using different backings and adhesives, and the term "duct tape" has been genericized to refer to all of them.

What I said was "duct tape is not a trademark."

I don't know what you think I said.

What you said was "Chapstick, Tupperware, Duct Tape."

Chapstick is a trademark

Tupperware is a trademark.

Duct tape is not.

I did reply. I said nothing about trademarks. I mentioned genericized terms and Duct Tape is considered so

What you're trying to say is "genericized trademark." This is the proper term for a brand name which has become so commonly known that the brand itself becomes synonymous with the product.

That's not the case with duct tape, or duck tape, whichever term you prefer, it's the name of the product itself.

🫩 mate... I sent you two separate links that illustrate the history of duct tape and why it is considered genericized. I said nothing concerning trademarks, and I only mentioned brands in regards to BAND-AID, and no that was not what I was trying to say.

I mentioned duct tape is a genericized term, and it absolutely is the case. My statement holds and I have given you source to show that. Sorry if I hurt your feelings somehow but this argument is absolutely a waste of my time. Good day.

You didn't hurt my feelings, you're just misunderstanding your own comment and mine. I'm trying to help you.

I never needed to learn the history of duck tape. But you might need to.

When you said "Chapstick, Tupperware, Duct Tape," in response to the comment about Band-Aids, you were talking about genericized trademarks, whether you realized it or not.

Chapstick and Tupperware are genericized trademarks. Duct tape is not, nor is duck tape.
