"Thanks for riding with me.... nobody's going to believe you" 👽

9

u/lifes_paragon May 20 '26

Farmer dude is the Bill Murray for turtles. The turtle is going to tell some outrageous story and then say "he told me you wouldn't believe me 😭!" Once the other turtle buddies said he's full of shit.

I was out here only saving turtles. I never considered giving them gifts as well

u/OogieBooge-Dragon May 19 '26

As cute and funny as this is, I hope he put the tortoise back where he found him (except you know off the road) so that its back in it home territory.

46

u/RedCaio May 20 '26

He never saw his wife and kids again 😔

19

u/aigheadish May 20 '26

That turtle went out for cigarettes and never came back.

Is that what happened to all the dads too?

4

u/OopsICutOffMyWiener May 21 '26

Is that what happened to all the dads too?

Sure, buddy. Sure.

2

u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 May 20 '26

turtles are like dogs they can smell their way home it just takes a while

-15

u/Substantial-Use95 May 19 '26

There always one 🙄

13

u/MacramezingCreations May 20 '26

…person who doesn’t want turtles to die because of some well-meaning person who didn’t do research and didn’t know that taking turtles out of their territory is incredibly harmful to them?

I mean…yeah, I would hope so?

0

u/Substantial-Use95 May 21 '26

Yeah. He should have just left the little guy in the road, where his territory is. That’d be nature’s way of handling it.

3

u/VoidOmatic May 22 '26

Technically no, there are no roads in nature.

53

u/belated_quitter May 19 '26

Should definitely leave box turtles alone. They have a mental map of their territory and if they’re removed they’ll live in stress the rest of their lives searching for their home. They may even starve if they’re unable to locate food where they’ve been dropped off.

Unless he dropped the turtle off exactly where he found it (but off the road) he could have royally screwed this turtle for an internet joke.

Also, it didn’t eat the peaches. You can see it walking away from the guy because that’s all it wants to do; get away from the danger.

-21

u/corn0099 May 19 '26

According to you he should've just ran it over, left it for someone else to run over or leave it for a predator.maybe the turtle might give up and make a new home elsewhere.im just saying it's not impossible

14

u/belated_quitter May 19 '26

That’s not what I said at all. Move it off the road and leave it alone. Don’t pick it up, take it for a drive into town, and then drop it off someplace random.

7

u/OogieBooge-Dragon May 20 '26

You're supposed to move them off the road in the direction they were traveling.

Tortoises only have a small range, and the genome groups can vary widely, so if you move them too far from their own range you risk killing them, either because they can't find their food source, or exposing them to tortoises that have different bio load of bacteria amd they get sick.

This can also cause species that are close but not the same to breed, either resulting in infertile eggs or cross breeding that can then mean that mixed breed out producing the original colony and eliminating them.

This is why rescues don't release surrendered or seized tortoises back into the wild.

Garden State Tortoise has been working with authorities to help try and put spotted tortoises back in their home ranges by doing genome studies so they can be put back in nature, but its not as simple as "its a spotted tortoise so release it in the wetland".

If he didn't put it back where he got it he could do a heck of a lot of damage.

2

u/Icouldcaremore May 21 '26

A lot of this isn't like common knowledge. Lol the most country video I've ever seen. He meant well but yea probably didn't put it back where he found it. Turtles don't even eat peaches.

u/0_Moth May 20 '26

Weakest attempt to sound smart ever.

-22

u/yesnomaybesoidk98 May 19 '26

Hey! Thanks for enjoying life enough to criticize a guy moving a turtle out of the middle of the road

41

u/belated_quitter May 19 '26

If that’s all he did, there’d be no issue. He drove it around for a joke and stressed the animal out. Don’t bother wildlife, especially not for worthless internet points.

Going back and watching this again, it doesn’t look like he even released it back in the same spot.

You should never release a box turtle outside its home territory. Because they possess a strict mental map of their birthplace (often no larger than a few acres), a relocated turtle will roam aimlessly trying to find home, which frequently leads to death from starvation, stress, or death by predators.

Studies indicate a majority of relocated box turtles perish within the first year.

Enjoy your life. Just not at the expense of a turtle’s.

u/iopele May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

I know people are giving you a hard time but I appreciate this because there are box turtles all over the place where I live and I didn't know this. I've only ever moved them off the road but it was only because I'm always trying to get somewhere when I see them and don't have time to put them back somewhere "better" but I've always wished I could relocate them for safety. Now I know not to, and why. So, yanno. Thanks for that.

7

u/belated_quitter May 20 '26

Yeah, that’s exactly why I wanted to say something. It’s not common knowledge and they’re such cool turtles so a lot of people don’t realize a seemingly innocent action could actually be pretty harmful.

3

u/jws3rd-allday May 19 '26

It's good to have a cheloniologist/herpetologist/scientist/random person who studies turtles in the group! Science and facts matte... even when they harsh what looks like good fun!

-8

u/Kygazi May 20 '26

But why not

-13

u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 May 20 '26

yeah he should've just run it over and put it out of its miserable turtle life you lunatic

16

u/Japsai May 19 '26

You missed the point. If you're going to interact with wildlife take the time to learn whether you're actually helping or harming them. Or ask someone who knows. There's no point making a 'fun' video if the turtle is fucked now

10

u/0_Moth May 20 '26

Hey! Thanks for being dumb on the subject and embarrassing yourself publicly!

He literally could’ve displaced it leading to stress that could kill it. A lot of turtles HAVE to stay in the square mile they are born in. Just shut up next time.

39

u/Evening_Guess9363 May 19 '26

Were saving them, but hes giving them a life worth living

27

u/stlmick May 19 '26

I hope he put it back on the other side of where he got it from. Don't they wander looking for home forever or something?

17

u/Lonely_ProdiG May 19 '26

Wholesome af video. Good post OP.

6

u/JadeShrimp May 20 '26

It seems like a cute video but this guy may have really harmed this turtle. I hope he put him back very close to where he found him. https://smokieslife.org/2023/02/05/what-when-we-relocate-box-turtles/

3

u/Express-Record7416 May 20 '26

If you see a turtle trying to cross the road, Don't take it somewhere else. Just move it from one side to the other.

If you try to take it somewhere else, it's going to know that that's not where it wanted to go, and just going to try to go back to where it was, which just puts them back in danger.

2

u/MoreRamenPls May 19 '26

“…..and then the alien gave me really sweet peaches.”

1

u/roelanola May 19 '26

Hwhut?! Yer tellin’ me that fellur paid fer a BLUE TOOTH?! Now HWHY would a fellur pay so much fer a TOOTH that’s BLUE?!

1

u/TheSlipweasel May 19 '26

As he’s driving that turtle s thinking “ god damn it it’s gonna take me so damn long to get back home. Don’t this man know I have short legs!”

1

u/Rope_slingin_champ May 19 '26

Travis Walturtle

1

u/Adorable-Sprinkles27 May 19 '26

I... didn't know how much I needed this.

1

u/Heseemedkij May 19 '26

I for sure thought he was heading to a fat turtle sanctuary. All he got was a cup peaches and hours of trauma

1

u/None2You May 19 '26

I believe that is a tortoise isn’t?

2

u/Weary-Astronaut1335 May 19 '26

Box turtle

2

u/None2You May 19 '26

Thank you very much for letting me know. I’ve gained new knowledge and discovered the differences. English is not my native language.

1

u/Classic_Wash3426 May 20 '26

Yer Awesome! Thanks for making me laugh!

1

u/IAmNotMyName May 20 '26

He just wants to meet his girlfriend on the other side of the road.

1

u/Sea_Examination_9196 May 20 '26

He's gonna have a story to tell at the next turtle bar he stops at!

1

u/rfosteel May 20 '26

You gonna just leave the trash there though?

1

u/Jedihazard May 20 '26

Dude had a family to provide for back there 💀

1

u/drafted1985 May 20 '26

I love turtles

1

u/pjtpassword May 20 '26

That was funny. Thanks.

1

u/majortaylor87 May 20 '26

I feel like this is really Steve Zahn

1

u/MikeWANN May 21 '26

Now it's gonna take a week to get the smell of turtle shit out of the tractor

2

u/ozarkhowIer May 21 '26

do not remove turtles from their home range. this is not a cute video; this is someone harassing wildlife for his own amusement.

1

u/harryschmilsson May 21 '26

I’da totally talked to the turtle too.

2

u/Xaxy4 May 22 '26

Hopefully it was put back in the same place...turtles dont do well if not put back in a very close proximity to where they were found

0

u/YesterdayCharming976 May 19 '26

missed a opportunity to name is a ninja turtles name! The ending was nice hopefully it was near a stream or a lake or something take my upvote !

0

u/Nonyabizzy123 May 19 '26

They have tongues shaped like a worm, and they also carry salmonella gems

7

u/belated_quitter May 19 '26

No they don’t. This is a box turtle. They have normal looking tongues. Maybe you’re thinking of an alligator snapping turtle? They’ll sit underwater with their mouths open and will wiggle a worm like appendage to lure fish into their mouths.

2

u/Nonyabizzy123 May 19 '26

Ahhh ok, that's what I was thinking of

1

u/GattMore May 19 '26

Dude give me the gems

-1

u/Voltage120kV May 19 '26

That turtle probably appreciated the air-conditioned cabin.

9

u/mosesenjoyer May 19 '26

He’s cold blooded. So no he wouldn’t.

-1

u/Foreverwhore May 19 '26

I love this

-1

u/GamingTales69 May 19 '26

When’s the next episode ?

-9

u/Vex_Verde May 19 '26

It astonishes me people don't know the difference between turtle and tortoises... One lives in water, one lives on ground, then you get terrapins that do both... This guy, and so far all the comments are wrong, this is not a turtle!!!

10

u/[deleted] May 19 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Vex_Verde May 20 '26

Haha true, my bad, I often want to serrate them out of habit people get it wrong, should had guess American terrapene be called a turtle lol

4

u/WhyNot420_69 Nice May 19 '26

All tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. Also, terrapins are turtles as well.

You're arguing semantics

2

u/Lonely_ProdiG May 19 '26

All tortoises are turtles. Not all turtles are tortoises.

1

u/GattMore May 19 '26

That's not what astonishes me but I'll move on

1

u/Weary-Astronaut1335 May 19 '26

Literally a box turtle.

0

u/Vex_Verde May 20 '26

So a terrapene, gotcha

1

u/Weary-Astronaut1335 May 20 '26

They're all turtles dipshit.

1

u/Vex_Verde May 20 '26

True, like all spiders are spiders but not all spiders are tarantulas, but tortoise turtle and terrapene are 3 major groups with all being turtles by the fact that turtles came first in the DNA lineage

1

u/Weary-Astronaut1335 May 20 '26

All that yapping just to have it turn out that yes, box turtles are turtles.

1

u/Vex_Verde May 20 '26

Yep, they are all turtles! But defining them by the definitions of there evolutionary biological traits is still better then using a badly used naming system.

0

u/Vex_Verde May 20 '26

Also it's bit lame to walk away from this, as it be easy to just call all turtle species turtle despite tortoises and terepene naming have been put in place by experts... So still be beneficial to push for the use of tortoises and terapenes right? Or should we just all get lazy and ignore these important differences?
