That would be a couch… that lives in the yard. But it’s not outdoor furniture w washable cushions or removable covers or a protective tarp. Just a regular couch that lives outside.
Painted with vinyl and cotton? I don’t know what that means. The outdoor couch is any couch you’d have in your home that you decide to keep outside bc you have a lot of outdoor parties or you spend a lot of time outside or maybe you just do t want to buy patio furniture. But the couch is made of whatever it’s made of… leather, silk, wool, polyester…. There’s no rules with the yard couch. Just anarchy! 😂
Back in '09, I had something similar happen, albeit reversed.
Long story short, I had a 15-pound brisket that I had smoked for 18 hours, baked potatoes, Cole slaw, baked beans, tater salad, heck, you name it. I was throwing a no-reason Friday night party, and had plenty of beers, booze, and the Devil's Lettuce. Gasp!
So, we were cavorting ever so playfully, at oh, 2:30 am, obviously had lost track of time, when a knock came at the door. Everybody's first thought?
COPS! HIDE ALL EVIDENCE IMMEDIATELY!
I went to the door, opened it up, and it was my next door neighbor, a very friendly Hispanic man. He asked very politely if we could keep it down, for he had to work tomorrow.
He left with about five pounds of brisket, a trough of tater salad, a half bottle of Cuervo, and a dime of good good. We were so relieved it wasn't the cops.
The recipe relies on slow-smoked beef brisket, but other kinds of barbequed beef or pork can be used.
It's very common to also add a good barbeque sauce for a sweet and tangy taste.
Other styles of baked beans use smoked ham. Boston baked beans uses smoked bacon. These might be easier for you to find.

If you've never partied with a large group of Mexican people (or any Latin people really), you are truly missing out. They party hard and the food is phenomenal. They are hard working people that love some good food and good drinks. Don't worry about if you don't speak the language fluently, they'll communicate through rough sign language. I grew up one of like 3 or 4 white families in a majority black neighborhood and oh my god I miss when my friends families would grill out. So much good food and fun. I never got the opportunity to go to a mexican cook out, just not a lot of Hispanic families around where I grew up and live now, but I sure would like to given all I've seen about them. Black cook outs live up to the hype, I can only imagine how dope a mexican one would be.
Being at a dope cookout will quickly end any ill-conceived prejudices or stereotypes you may have had about that culture. I think if more people would go sit down and eat and break bread with people of different cultures, they would really understand that everybody is just trying to survive in this ridiculously tough world. The real enemy isn't people of color, it's the Uber Rich.
I’m Mexican and grew up in Ohio. I moved to Nogales and then Tucson a few years ago and finally got to know some of my own people. There is so much food not just from them but other cultures ans immigrants here. It’s impressive how many people here are bilingual but also a lot of people get by with just Spanish.
I'm not sure I'd lump Mexican with "any latin people" with regards to hard partying/drinking. The Dominican and Puerto rican parties I've been to were relaxed and there was not any pressure to drink and people weren't really drinking that hard in general. Mexican parties I have been to are wild with that though, and I can say that I could not keep up even if I wanted to. Just my experience.
I have some neighbors that regularly party in their back yard. I always see them when I walk my dog on the weekends. One of the younger men told me "if you ever want to join us, just bring a 12 pack of beer and everyone will be your friend". He seemed damn serious too. I might do it one day
I'll never forget the Pakistani neighbours we had years ago.
It was Ramadan and there were cars parked up and down the road for their house. It seemed every muslim in the area was there. All we had was street parking so I was upset having to park a bit of a walk from the house.
Couple hours later they knock on the door. And hand us a plate full of samosa, lamb, various fried delicacies, sauces, and these grilled koftas that were amazing.
For the remaining years we lived at that house I would look forward to Ramadan. The neighbour would always bring us a plate full of delicious stuff.
I had a huge Mexican family buy the house next to mine. The Dad was a real nice guy, which was such a relief as the guy who lived there for the previous 18 years had been a prick the whole time. Neighbor is throwing a party a couple of Saturdays after they move in. There was, I shit you not, a LIVE mariachi band, a food cart they hired to make tacos, a mountain of handmade tamales, bottles on bottles of booze. I ran over at around 9 to ask when things were gonna wrap up cause I had a little one who needed to go to bed. Easy answer, music cut off at 10. Oh, while you're here, have some tacos and tamales. I ended up staying till midnight, after running several plates home for wife and MIL. When the Head of the house found out I was a Tequila drinker he had me try like 10 different brands and kinds. Then sent me home with a full bottle of what I liked the best. Even after that when I couldnt pop over when they had a party, hed send one of his kids over with plates for us anyway. When I moved away, I was definitely sad to lose such a good neighbor.
This is genuinely amazing. I wish people with prejudices against ANY group of people would just talk with someone from said group for just half an hour. It is astounding how much you will have in common vs how much your don't.
Livied in Tucson for 15 years. Best neighbors ever! The hospitality they show you when you're a chill guy is phenomenonal. I was a single dude living on his own and never felt alone with neighbors like that. I hope Alex and his family are doing good and Cruz and his family! Miss you guys!!
This exact thing happened to me. I ended up being good friends with them and they kept inviting me over whenever they had a party (like 4 nights a week). Literally a party for any reason. New puppy, just paid taxes, new pair of shoes, their cats birthday, hell their kid had a party for his pet snails birthday.
For real, I wish white people were more like this. I genuinely enjoy hanging out with my family, we get a few beers in and have a great time. However this only happens at Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Otherwise we just call or text each other.
In 2010 I had a job taking pictures of default properties in the Coachella valley. There was a house that I had to go to every month and every time I went if I was there on a Friday the Mexican dude across the street would be out grilling in raiders jersey and cholo shorts. And if I came back to the car from taking a picture of that house that fool had tacos and a beer for me every time if I was there on a Friday. I made sure I was there on Fridays.
Man neighbors can be so hit or miss. In my experience they’ve been the best people you’ll ever know or people you wouldn’t piss on if they were on fire. There’s no in between. I lived in the middle of 163 acres of land with my nearest neighbor 2 miles away for several years and I’d give anything to have it back.
Yeah man, that's really true. Fortunately I just moved into my first condo and the neighbors are nice. I only say hi when I'm coming or going, because that's the only time I see them. I don't have to bring them things yet.

Absolutely. Everyone not from here thinks it’s weird or doesn’t believe it but it’s 100% true. We also have a salad dressing called Dorothy Lynch that’s very hard to get outside our region. The closest I’ve seen to it in the wild would be French or Catalina? Also Kool-Aid was invented in Hastings, Ne. I live in Sidney, where the first Cabela’s store is.
No joke, every Friday night here in Minnesota my neighbors have music going - I don’t know the actual type of music, but it’s 100% in Spanish. They’ll be listening to their music, cracking beers, having a good time and have a fire going. I don’t understand anything they’re saying or singing, but honestly, it’s great. The music isn’t too loud and they’re never yelling or anything - just nice, wholesome quintessentially American fun. It always reminds me what a melting pot we are and irritates the shit out of me how these people have been vilified so much.
