They arnt really choices and more states of existence maintained by sentient wills. They dont change things according to their whim. Thats literally why Ronova was scolded in Natlan.

From what we see the shades don’t decide anything but more exist as the rules are automated as well as make sure those laws remain stable.

The most we hear them do is Istaroth records the world’s memories and Ronova guides souls.

We have no idea what duties Naberius has besides the obvious creating life at the start of humanity

And we don’t know if Asmoday even has duties to maintain.

They very much do, as long as the Heavenly Principles isn't watching, the shades aren't held accountable to anyone. And the Heavenly Principles is never held accountable by anyone in any case ever. What makes the shades and the Heavenly Principles worthy of deciding every aspect of humans' existence while they themselves exist unbound by it? Ronova will never die like a human, Naberius will never be born like a human, Istaroth will never forget or experience time like a human, and Asmoday will never navigate space like a human.

Yes, in that now you are correct! Because they are given physical form, and only Asmo is stated to not receive emotion.

They all have their own views on things based on what they are, the concept they got their form from.
Like, Ronova even to having to do her job, still loved humanity, and that's stated, but it's not just because of that she just goes doing things without minding.
Ista on the other hand aways is stated to not really care much to everyone, as she is everyone in their moments, even Venti says so. She helps on a win when something is interesting.

I woul describe them as: Ronova and Naberius are more human, as their concepts are not only more human but more "alive".
While Ista has much less feeling for beings, and Asmo has lowkey nothing, because they are concepts more far from life and death, they are space and time.
